Timing could've been better, that is one aspect that should've been seen. Delay the announcement or cancel the recruits travel.

The team did know before the university told the public. Now should they have been informed before the conferences knew? It's possible the conferences were told leading up to this that it was a option and checking to see if it screwed anything up with affiliations with Big Sky / Summit. There is going to be a leak somewhere, but it probably should've been from the hockey players and not someone with sources at the conferences. Problem with having to include so many people it makes it hard to keep the information intact.- 2,150 replies

They should've announced numbers at the press conference, it was the time to do it, not in individual one on one interviews.
-
More than likely there will be shown live and replayed later, I thought this happened somewhat with Sochi, if NBC doesn't rebroadcast you will see them on NHL Network I would have to think.
-
I have a feeling you are right. But it isn't uncommon to see in comments and hear around sporting events and town.
-
We do have bad timing for cuts though, last year 3 days after winning the National Championship. This year just following NCAA appearances from MH and MBB. Do it before the tourneys and you have a possibility for negative publicity being stated on national TV, wait till after and it overshadows accomplishments that have been made.

This is one benefit, USD just resigned their coach to $275,000. If I remember right that is over 2x + what our coach makes. One can support women's hockey but be understanding that as a university we cannot accept such losses year after year, and with academics already cutting budgets themselves i do not see them ever being willing to take further cuts to fund negative spending athletic teams.- 2,150 replies

Faison says revenue has gone up in his presser as well. But I know i have heard many people state they will no longer donate to the university, now if that is true then the amount of revenue growth is alot smaller than what it would be if they donated, but it is also possible these are folks who will never donate anyway and just want to have a excuse.
-
The university tried a fundraising campaign around winter break, i barely saw it promoted by most sports. Also alumni kept repeated they would not donate to the school once nickname was retired. I am upset that the name was changed too, but if we didn't do it the NCAA could've/would've prevented us from all Championship competition. No NCAA Tourney for MIH, MBB, FB, VolleyBall etc. People also need to remember that athletics is just one part of the university taking budget cuts. The university as a whole is as well. The School of Medicine and School of Law both have their own budgets that gets their budget cuts without a chance of spreading it out to other programs on campus. Med School announced budget cuts shortly before athletics today.
-
It also did not affect any sports that are in or will be in Big Sky/Summit. Leaves UND as a leaving full member of Big Sky where we can win conference title, and prevents a possible breach of contract with Summit if it included certain sports in agreement to offer.

Less or no scholarships? More road travel? (east coast has advantage) Some are private so more tuition coverage? Non-international athletes? State not cutting their whole budget? If it wasn't for the lastest round of budget cuts Burgum put out today wouldn't have happened yet.- 2,150 replies

Sports practice in the off-season. WIH has a limitation to when the ice is in, and easier to practice now than it is in the summer, when battling hockey camps, students gone, etc. Can continue to get better, just like Spring Football, and other fall sports practicing in the spring.

It be interesting to learn when the decision was made, was there a few options on the board, and they just made decision within last 24 hours? Press Conference should've been this morning, problem is athletes typically have classes in the morning, so they wait till they can meet, but also have to inform the conference and NCAA of the decision.- 2,150 replies

now that multiple sources have reported on it they are free to do it stating its from sources and not the university. If they were first to report it before athletes knew and no one else had reported it yet, then it would be bad.- 2,150 replies

it happened again in the Ohio State vs UMD game that would've opened the score for Ohio State.

I feel like the local media would keep something like this under wraps until official announcement. If coming from them before even the athlete's know than that is a bad sign. Problem in our country now is even if you plan an announcement or are working on details that there is a leak ahead of time that throws everything into dysfunction.- 2,150 replies

Same thing with Wild-Stars Game 6. One angle looked easily in. http://www.wfaa.com/sports/nhl/stars/heres-how-close-the-wild-came-to-tying-up-game-6/151986069 If the camera would've been on the SE side of the rink instead of SW corner this last weekend, the angle would've favored UND in my opinion. Not saying he wasn't off-sides, just saying angles play tricks.
-
Didn't notice if mentioned. Brock playing @ Winnipeg tonight. So no issue getting work visa, if Canada requires that like US. Vancouver's twitter shows a group on UND players made it up to watch the game.
-
Will South Dakota's new adoption law deter NCAA? They still had D2 WBB this weekend, but it was too short notice to yank like they did to NC over bathroom bill.
-
You are correct my bad. I read Keller but was thinking Keifer(spelling). Saw Bellows alot in Stampede vs Force games
-
The what if...... predicted to play Union until Penn State did so well in B1G tourney. But than again, we had no problem outplaying BU yesterday. Just not great end result. Miska has saved Duluth alot the last 2 weeks.

University of North Dakota Hockey 2017-18 Season
Wildfan replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
A couple bigger guys will help expecially driving the net, kinda like Tucker 2 years ago when he played some forward, and shades on Wollanin when he steps up -
The angle of that camera doesn't help either, angles play a mean game on eyes, see Ninos potential tying goal for Wild vs Stars game 6. This pic shows skate in contact with line. If this was not a OT game winner in NCAA tourny that goal stands. If linesman didnt go into review thinking it was offsides the goal probably stands. It was noted he thought it was, which intiated the review. Was he offsides? Maybe, but can not tell from that view for certain. Sucks because I don't think that inch had any effect on the puck going into the net. It is a different play entirely from a player going on a breakaway where he beats the pass to him in.
