UND (11-3, 16-8) @ Weber (11-2, 16-8) 2/18 8 PM
NoiseInsideMyHead replied to SWSiouxMN's topic in Men's Basketball
Since @ Shawn-O was kind enough to drag me into this, and rekindle that whole affair, I have to ask, what on earth does a hockey coach salary have to do with a BB coach salary? You'd be far better off using peer institution BB data to support the claim that a BB coach is underpaid. Or at least peer institution WH data to prove that a WH coach is overpaid. I stand by my earlier statements on the subject that sport-specific market forces drive the numbers, and that sport-to-sport comparisons are useless. -

Huh? How did I get roped into this conversation? I'll own it if you can simply point to where I said it. EDIT: I now see and recall our discussion last summer about the merits of comparing coaching salaries across sports in gross, but is it not a tad unfair to pin the "knuckle-dragging Neantherthal" name-calling part of that comment on me? -
The "clinging to hope" demographic has money to spend. Interlocking ND is technically still in use, at least until the ice melts.

I think this composite on the wall at ICON is impressive. Grand Forks hockey from termite to high school. On a strictly per capita basis, I wonder if GF doesn't have one of the highest hockey participation rates in the country. -

That style started off in '09 with WCHA on the tail...moved to chest about 3-4 years later, as I recall. This one looks legit. Retailed at around $220-230 (the Reebok replicas were about $100 cheaper). EDIT: The item description is super detailed; seller says patch moved in '11-12.

Small-minded people tend to think small. Presidents are held to a high standard, and much is expected. Yes, they have a staff to facilitate the breadth of their responsibilities. They also have homes, vehicle allowances, entertainment budgets, etc. The article says this is not a new position. If anyone wants to begrudge the President any of these things, they can kindly keep their seat when the President does not hit target goal X by date Y, or fails to cultivate Z relationships, or does not live up to whatever impossible standard the would-be critic seeks to impose. -

No positive spin here, unfortunately. http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/4215118-update-620-pm-und-school-law-looks-tuition-increase-puts-pro-bono-clinic-hiatus -
Selective with the stats much? 67-27 with never fewer than 9 wins in a season. That's 9 wins a year, every year. Fans down there are psycho ("fair-weathered" means something different with their legacy...just wait and see what happens in Fargo), and many of them don't deserve to ever taste the top again. His players absolutely LOVED the man, and that has to count for something.

Fargo Economy (UND fans and UND alumnus living in Fargo)

I was surprised to read that Simply Mac closed. Did they relocate, or are they Simply toast? Bigger question...when will Fargo get a real Apple store? -
If that's WDAZ's best stream, they need to see a urologist, STAT. I think they're tethered to a Motorola Star*TAC.

In a column/article about UND hockey, longtime Herald sports writer Tom Miller dropped this bomb: Really, Tom? You had to go there? It's 2017. We're several years removed from the previous regime, we've grown, we've matured, we've tasted success, we've made the playoffs, and we are full of hope and optimism for the first time in a long time. Yet, you had to take a snipe at the previous coach? By name? Show some class. The writer here could have used big boy words and made several creative or witty allusions to the recent down period for UND football. He could have indirectly referenced Mussman a million different ways, and all of the readers in Siouxland would have gotten the joke, and maybe even smirked a little. He could have taken the high road and tied FB attendance to fan apathy or performance generally, instead of calling out a coach or a staff. This was small, petty, and mean. And bush league journalism. Okay for Deadspin, I suppose...maybe that's where Tom's aspirations lie. The Herald is blessed to have such an excellent sports writer in Brad Schlossman...I only wish the same could be said for his colleague and understudy. Boo, Tom. Boo.

Is schedule regularity a thing in MBB? I guess I've never been much more than a casual fan, but other than the Big Ten-ACC challenge (made for TV) which always falls on the same night of the week, I sort of figured game schedules were unstructured if not completely arbitrary.

Speaking of cars (and not politics), the Herald has an interesting editorial on the one license plate versus two debate presently before the legislature. If that is the best rationale they can come up with, how about the fact that 49 states allow pharmacies to be owned by out-of-state entities, and the fact that 49 states allow stores like Target and Walmart to open before noon on Sunday. Majority rules...let's get North Dakota out of the dark ages.

The real test will be prom season. -
This sounds awfully petty. As if no UND hockey fan has ever sought consolation at the end of a season by noting the eventual tournament fate/success of the team that knocked out the Sioux. The Bison run is epic, and historic, and deserving of as many superlatives as any NDSU fan can muster...let them be.
