  1. Pax numbers way down. http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/4272017-flying-low-boarding-down-20-percent-grand-forks-airport File this under "Huge Surprise." Has anyone priced Delta out of GFK recently? Holy hell! Monopoly pricing to say the least. Makes those 1- or 5-hour jaunts down the highway seem like a no-brainer, even with a hotel stay.
  2. Emrick just called out all of Ottawa. "First conference final game that was not a sellout in 10 years." May well be true, but it felt awkward.
  3. Nashville fans taunting the empty net. Always an interesting tactic.
  4. So the first 40 or so words were just the lead-in. Got it. YOU missed the entire point of my post, which was that she wasted 40 words saying jack squat. Are you her son or husband or something?
  5. This update on the Hyslop pool contains possibly the best (or worst, depending on your point of view) example of empty speech I have seen in a long, long time. Give that woman a prize or something.
  6. UND football helmets and possible future UND logo combinations upon said UND football helmets and the incorporation of throwbacks into UND football uniforms "doesn't really have anything to do with UND football"? Thank God you're here to keep us on task.
  7. Nice write-up. http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/4266904-what-could-have-been No surprise these guys are having impact. Personally, I think that UND was able to recruit quality and character guys because only character guys would commit to coming to the frozen tundra of Grand Forks with its long road trips, late spring, and short home season. The deck for success at D1 is stacked against northern teams; Indiana's 2013 CWS appearance was the first for the B1G since 1984. For the northernmost teams, fuhgeddaboutit. Playing at UND meant love of the game and love for the school. Still sad to drive by Kraft on a sunny, spring day, but the U is marching on. I'd love to have seen the Hawk on an official baseball cap or jersey, though. I'd have bought one on the spot.
  8. Not to split hairs (or feathers), but by definition, a "throwback" would require that the logo have been dropped at some point. What makes you think that the interlocking ND won't pop up in the heritage line of products or even on the field at some point?
  9. I bet he would give anything to have her back, back, back. Seriously, though, today is his birthday, too.
  10. If you live in Grand Forks, PLEASE contact your City Councillor...unless you are in favor of reducing speed limits on main roads throughout town, in which case, get ready for some bump drafting. Pro tip: If the police officer on the City Council votes "no" on a traffic measure, it's probably a bad idea.
  11. Blue Hawks in the Red? Would that make them Purple?
  12. On the plus side, slower traffic will give everyone additional time to more fully appreciate the Swiss clock-like, ultra-precise synchronization of the stoplights.
  13. They just said on WDAZ that they measured speeds during "non-peak" times. Yeah, blue hairs driving to and from their appointments at Altru. WTF! I can guarantee they weren't measuring my speed anywhere. The city's traffic engineer is an incompetent twit. (That is hardly news.)
  14. I'll believe that when I see it. Millennials are the last group I'd entrust with the project. Heck, I'd take grade school kids over college kids.
  15. What the ever-living f*** is this? http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/4263453-slow-your-roll-grand-forks-leaders-consider-lower-speed-limits-town If this passes, I will be the first to sign a recall petition for my city councilor.
  16. Yet, the men and women who wear the name and logo and take the field under it had one of their best, breakout years ever. Do you ever feel like you're fighting the wrong war, for the wrong reasons?
  17. I could be mistaken, but I think a lot of the new downtown signage...including in the windows of many businesses along Demers...coincided with homecoming last fall. Much of it has remained, as I recall.
  18. The big numbers related to the nickname transition were long-range, and those included such things as new uniforms, playing surfaces, etc., that have a finite life span and were going to require replacement anyway. And way back in 2011, the estimate was $750k. As of January 2015, actuals were $126k. And in 2016, the logo cost about $50k. In any event, that's a long way from equaling the annual cost of a sport, let alone an expensive one. So I'm not sure the nickname issue and its one-time expenditures are viable scapegoats for teams being cut, nor have I ever heard that the nickname costs were paid for by the athletic department in the first place.
  19. Betsy DeVos will make the trip personally...she's always wanted to see Mount Rushmore.
  20. You mean, like, a year ago, when we were 101 pages into the Fire Brian Jones thread?
  21. Playoff hockey. Literally nothing like it.
  22. If you're gonna include the W, it's gotta have attitude. Yet, most everyone was dead set against a cartoonish animal logo.
  23. The Legislature getting involved in something it probably shouldn't, possibly without adequate information and perhaps with a questionable motive? Say it ain't so!
