This is an observation more than a complaint, and it's not limited to UND by any stretch, but we haven't even kicked off the college football season and so far on my Twitter feed I've seen multiple accounts in the past few days with season-opener countdowns for both MH and BB. Can the social media yahoos PLEASE take a day or two off and let FOOTBALL have its freaking day in the sun? I mean, seriously, I don't care how big your program is, can you just lay low for a spell and share the stage? Your fans know where you are, neither of you are going anywhere, and your '40-days-til-tipoff' Tweet will be just as exciting as you seem to think the '50-days' one is. Social media oversaturation is slowly killing all of us.

Maybe the lesson here is to focus on the things you can control and stop dwelling on things that you cannot. The UND Fighting Hawks and their logo are taking the field/ice/court no matter what, and vilifying someone for wanting a unified fan base is hardly productive. The fact that there are a few petulant enablers in positions of power (looking at you, REA) changes nothing.

Actually, the REA did a little bit of equine CPR yesterday and brought the old nag back to life. Tweeting those pictures not only sans logo but with the interlocking ND right overhead was a deliberate poke in UND's eye and elicited an entirely predictable response from fans on both sides. What I want to know is, where are the grown ups in all of this?

Because unlike your example, it's regular season college hockey. Period. The $45-50 ticket has been the norm at UND for a long time now, which is by no means cheap, but the quality of the product has sustained the value. While I do not dispute that UM is a premium opponent, and could command a premium price, a 100% markup is steep. What the average fan does not need to see is UND getting cozy with the idea of trying to make up its Athletics deficit entirely by doing cash grabs at the box office. What starts out as Gopher nostalgia now could soon see $70-80 price points on other matchups. That would be unfortunate and would price out a lot of people. IMHO, fans need to stick up for one another, and the standard answer should never be "Why can't you just go to the exhibition game or the Thanksgiving games against Sisters of the Blind." That is not going to cultivate loyalty, especially among newcomers and non-entitled kids.

Slightly off topic, but has anyone been to the Sickies in Sioux Falls? It's huge! And doing well, by all appearances. Happy to support an ND-based business. I really do hope the GF location sticks around. Parking at EGF can be just as challenging.

Poll some players and get back to me. Those kids play under tremendous pressure under the best of circumstances. Why double down to make a few bucks? Are you prepared to say that if the weekend goes poorly, no fan is going to bring up the cost of admission?

At $99, I hope UND gets swept. Not remotely because I want to see the Gophers win, or the Hawks lose, but I do want to see the administration endure some bad karma for freaking doubling the cost of tickets for what amounts to a non-conference weekend that may matter little in the big picture. Rivalry or no, that is a $hit ton of pressure on the home team not to stink up the place. I hope the boys can rise above it, but it's unfair to place them in that position. Big-time opponents have come to the REA for years, and lots of games with post-season implication have been played, but UND has never before had to resort to rank profiteering on the backs of fans.

Non-exhibition/holiday tickets have sold for $40-45 (less for kids) for years. That's the price I've paid, and I believe it to be a fair price. Isn't that the definition of FMV? How can the seller uncharacteristically and blindly set the price at >100% markup for a pair of games and have that be chalked up to FMV?

If you're suggesting that 100% markup is the norm for premier games, I'd like to see some evidence. Not questioning your rationale (because I totally get it), just thinking you've mixed in a bit of hyperbole. UND pulled a low-class move, that is almost impossible to defend.
