  1. At $99, I hope UND gets swept. Not remotely because I want to see the Gophers win, or the Hawks lose, but I do want to see the administration endure some bad karma for freaking doubling the cost of tickets for what amounts to a non-conference weekend that may matter little in the big picture. Rivalry or no, that is a $hit ton of pressure on the home team not to stink up the place. I hope the boys can rise above it, but it's unfair to place them in that position. Big-time opponents have come to the REA for years, and lots of games with post-season implication have been played, but UND has never before had to resort to rank profiteering on the backs of fans.
  2. Non-exhibition/holiday tickets have sold for $40-45 (less for kids) for years. That's the price I've paid, and I believe it to be a fair price. Isn't that the definition of FMV? How can the seller uncharacteristically and blindly set the price at >100% markup for a pair of games and have that be chalked up to FMV?
  3. If you're suggesting that 100% markup is the norm for premier games, I'd like to see some evidence. Not questioning your rationale (because I totally get it), just thinking you've mixed in a bit of hyperbole. UND pulled a low-class move, that is almost impossible to defend.
  4. In your head, maybe. Get a life.
  5. You chose an obscure, 15-year-old, single-post thread to use as an image dump? Ever hear of Imgur?
  6. http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/twins/4310165-colon-sparkles-again-twins-back-500 I see the cleanse worked wonders. #headlines
  7. This is the part that I think a lot of people miss when they describe upgrades they would like to see at REA. Everything needs to be scaled down to a significantly smaller facility. While ice projection is a natural feature that is actually overdue (especially for a school that is trying to remain at the top facilities-wise), they can really only do so much with a right-sized suspended center display. I believe that REA has done an incredible job keeping up with the technology and the resolution of the hanging video boards is very good. A monster scoreboard may have negative aesthetic consequences we wouldn't fully appreciate until after it was too late. I don't think the golden FIGHTING SIOUX ring is what's holding things up. At least I hope not, because that would be f'in ridiculous and short-sighted.
  8. As if thinning the ranks of the militant, Sioux-forever types is somehow an altogether bad thing. #freshblood
  9. Don't troughs generally keep the line moving faster, though? And at times, that's what really matters.
  10. Do my eyes deceive me, or is that "BU" on the center scoreboard (and on the ice) and "BC"'s eagle logo on the corner scoreboard? Come on, Denver...get your act together.
  11. Hawks happen. UND likely won't be the last. It's far too common a name (especially among colleges and universities in the post-NA era) to ignore that there is something about collective, group-think that gravitates toward avian predators. It's undeniable, like death and taxes. I don't care what principles/attributes are put forth, or who is in charge. Are you suggesting that every school's process was equally flawed, or just UND's? And is it really that bad? Were you paying attention when the submission list was made public?
  12. Disappointment in the outcome was inevitable, regardless of the process. #globalthermonuclearwar
  13. It could work...
  14. But that particular game was tainted by warm weather/bad ice, a severed coolant line, a lopsided crowd and outcome, and the fact it's a freaking baseball stadium in a decidedly non-hockey town. Weather is definitely a variable, but people's mileage may vary here depending on circumstances.
  15. While having no name technically "worked," in that the school and teams survived and even thrived, a less visible side effect was the persistent hope it fueled among the Sioux Forever crowd. The longer that door stayed open, the more questions were sure to arise, even in the absence of all real hope. While the ultimate outcome is up for debate, moving on was the responsible, adult thing to do. In time, "Hawks" will roll off the tongue and the logo will just come to look right. If anyone disagrees vehemently, I have an idea. Get a few minutes on Kennedy's schedule (he's got nothing going on, right?) and ask him if he'd like to have that issue on his plate. Anyway, it sure looks to me like he's invested heavily in the notion of 'branding' UND, so the most you would have gotten is a year or two, and then the same Hawk-sausage factory would have opened up. Because that's just how things work.
  16. Bad knockoff. If that was sold @ Sioux Shop I'll eat my hat.
  17. Since the last crime-related thread was shut down a while back, I figure we need a new one. And with headlines like this, we needed a new one BAD. Seems the Herald/Forum aren't messing around with this one, and got right to the point.
  18. http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/4293289-smiling-moose-open-sandwich-shop-grand-forks Good news for the lunch crowd in GF. I've been to the downtown Fargo location a couple of times...never been disappointed.
  19. Thanks! That is tacky AF. Not even kids get a break.
  20. I haven't seen anything official, or that single game ticket prices have even been discussed, let alone finalized. Keeping the two-tier pricing structure (three, if you count the bargain basement, non-conference over holiday break games) is the classy thing to do. At some point, you risk alienating fans, you lose sight of entertainment value, and you put an inordinate amount of pressure on your boys to perform. Can you imagine literally doubling the prices for a single opponent and then stinking up the joint? I'd rather UND leave money on the table at the box office, keep the fans' good will intact, and then put on a good show. Screw Gordon Gekko.
  21. Is there anyone alive who will admit to either voting against the Columbia overpass or thinking it wasn't a no-brainer? Can anyone enlighten us newcomers to what life was like before? I cannot imagine a more pathetic existence...a growing community completely separated from its primary job base by a two-mile-long rail yard. The word cowtown comes to mind.
  22. Looks like tire treads...were they run over on the way to the gym?
  23. I do not disapprove.
  24. Adidas leaving quite the eye-stain in Omaha right now.
