  1. I call that "elbow room" and "a place to put my coat."
  2. Disappointed when the market is flooded with cheap tickets?
  3. You're drawing a false correlation between "marketing" and "enrollment." This discussion is specifically about Twin Cities advertising, and whether President X spent more than President Y. I don't think it unreasonable to ask for something concrete to demonstrate that the expenditures by either school have had any impact whatsoever on enrollment from the Twin Cities. Anecdotal evidence about who saw what billboard when and where -- especially when the "who" is very likely outside the target demographic -- is meaningless. The BS, by the way, was the unfounded attack on President Kelley, a hobby for which some around here have an unnatural hard-on.
  4. Didn't know where else to put this, but spotted it on TMZ today. http://www.tmz.com/2018/02/19/josh-duhamel-visits-fergie-house-roses-national-anthem-disaster/
  5. I'm gonna call BS on this. As another poster noted, there was a continuous presence especially in the later years of Kelley's tenure. And I personally have seen the I-94 billboard and Target Field ads for years. Kelley-bashing for advertising seems kind of pathetic, unless you have data to back it up. Show us the year-to-year expenditures and the results. It's public record, I'm sure. Besides, how effective is any kind of advertising for college-bound students? Has UND enrollment from the TC even varied that much? For my money, I'd rather buy the guidance counselors at top area high schools a weekly dinner at Ruth's Chris...that's going to have as much impact as anything.
  6. Maybe the US coaches are playing this right about now:
  7. What's stranger...that the red sweater says "Olympic Athlete from Russia," or that it's in English and not Cyrillic?
  8. You're nuts. Students who were a slam dunk (top MCAT, GPA, credentials) likely had their choice of schools. Everyone else is just grateful for a slot ANYWHERE, and for most applicants it's simply not in the cards. Being that MDs only spend two years in classroom teaching, you can't possibly convince me that "facilities" factor one iota into the equation. The condition of the building is known at the time of application and admission. With all the studying, who has time to complain anyway?
  9. In fairness, most med students would rave about a pig sty if it meant they got in.
  10. This could end up being a double-barreled problem for UND. Less demand for season tickets = fewer donations and less ticket revenue up front. Less demand for single game tickets (i.e., greater availability of season tix second-hand) = fewer advance purchases and less ticket revenue. Who's going to pay full prices AND TM's outrageous fees at the on-sale date if they can reliably get as good or better tickets for less as each game nears? Hockey is definitely the golden goose, and it has been riding an incredible wave of success that has sustained high demand and probably justified somewhat modest price increases (Minnesota aside). I don't see price slashing any time soon, but it does kind of make you wonder...at its current level of budgeting and operations, how will UND fare financially during a hockey performance slump? Can it absorb a loss in ticket revenue, and will it eventually consider lowering prices as a means to win back casual or leery fans?
  11. As UND has two Brocks playing in the NHL right now, we probably need to refer to them by last name.
  12. At the Ahch-To locations, the breast milk is self-serve.
  13. Nice. Do they ever play the School for the Blind, who I hope to God are nicknamed the Melons?
  14. Bummer. A decent lunch option. Was just there a couple of weeks ago. Hope the hotel won't let the space languish.
  15. Yes, it has been a ridiculously busy season over on the ticket thread. Patience is the key, as prices drop (sometimes drastically) into Friday of each weekend. A lot of forces at play here, but don't rule out ticket face prices (which have gone up) and the economy (which is probably not as strong as it once was).
  16. Furious George and the Man in the Pointy White Hat.
  17. Five bucks.
  18. http://www.grandforksherald.com/business/restaurants-and-bars/4383079-petes-za-takes-place-south-end-little-caesars Surprised! Surprised! that Little Caesar's would pull out of the south side. Those $5 pizzas with the easy drive up and go really proved handy for busy families and anyone needing late night munchies.
  19. http://www.grandforksherald.com/business/restaurants-and-bars/4383080-subway-closes-columbia-mall Worst food court in America gets a little worse. (Not that anybody ate there, anyway.) Now beyond clear that Scheels cannot save Columbia Mall. It will be a multi-use facility soon. Maybe a church, maybe a year-round flea market. Bleak.
  20. Rx: Late night bag skate @ University Park. Repeat as needed.
  21. In fairness, this is a week/weekend thread, not a gameday thread.
  22. A) Awful B) I believe that U18 attendance data from 2 years ago is actually more predictive of local support than U20 from 13 years ago. The economy, fan interest, changing media habits of sports fans, newness of REA...all of those things vary with time.
  23. Would be a huge get, BUT I'm still pretty embarrassed by the U18 attendance two years ago. I wouldn't blame any sanctioning body for holding that against GF/REA for a long time.
