  1. Sporting events have been ticketed for decades. Bars have restricted access by minors and carded patrons for decades. Most international travel has required a passport for...ready for this, decades. The vaccine has been available literally for hours. Let that sink in. And then come back and tell us what a comparison is.
  2. Not sure fear is a one-way street here. Just wait until you find out what you were exposed to last season at The Ralph. And the season before. And the season before that. And you didn't come on here and say diddly-squat. 2020 isn't special. The great (over)reaction is what's special. Why don't we resume living, and simply let people choose whether or not to resume what's been normal for an entire lifetime. No force at all. Choice. Masks and lockdowns DO. NOT. WORK. Vaccines for those who want them.
  3. Not to set the dumpster alight, but is this an indication that the west simply has adopted different or less stringent testing criteria? Presumably, the entire traveling party was tested extensively in the days and weeks leading up to departure. Yet by European standards (where the numbers have been touted as being far less), they were all cleared.
  4. Random "Stay on Thread" Thoughts: - Fledgling regional Mexican restaurant coming soon into the old Ruby Tuesday location. - Mexican/Guatemalan restaurant in the Columbia Mall "food court" still a going concern (somehow). - If anybody here has a pot of cash and a moderately high net worth, the former Hardees tract at 17th & Columbia just screams Raising Cane's to me. (Be the first in the Dakotas!)
  5. Re-open the dumpster fire thread and assess taxes at a nickel a post.
  6. At the risk of venturing too deep into politics in a restaurant thread, let's just say that if tyrannically-minded politicians keep enacting and trying to enforce draconian and misguided measures with shameful if not radical indifference to the effects on their citizens, there may be no restaurants left at which to eat. #BLM (bordertown livelihoods matter) #annexEGF #savethemoose
  7. Now THIS would make me stand for the anthem...twice. God bless these people.
  8. Read "skinned car" and had an entirely different, much more threatening visual. Kinda like Coach returning to his hotel room in Omaha, finding a paper-wrapped package, and opening it to find a valet key from an old Chevy Cavalier. It's a dealer's message. It means Luca Berry now drives the economy cars.
  9. Relax. It's a rumor until shown otherwise. And it's one freaking sponsor. If you're concerned about the fiscal health of UND Athletics, you'd better direct your energy elsewhere: like Biden, Burgum, Armacost, Fauci, NCAA. If the fan lockout continues much longer, Rydell's sponsorships are chump change between the sofa cushions.
  10. Firehouse Subs re-opened this week for first time since April. Exterior of Southtowne strip mall almost completely renovated. Dine-in as well as carry-out.
  11. Meh, limited real estate there. Thought absolutely nothing of it. Besides, those ads were sold well in advance of knee-gate.
  12. You're one of those 'have a headache => must be an inoperable brain tumor' types, aren't you?
  13. Now you're just making things up to get angry about. First thing first, let's let the rumor be confirmed, and then let's have the ad market dry up, and then you can fret.
  14. Short-sighted decision, if true. A public statement would have sufficed. Then again. it's not like Rydell needs the additional exposure of buying ad time/space at REA. Their brand is ubiquitous. Next car dealer up. Maybe Corwin or Luther wants some market penetration in GF?
  15. And why is that? It's abundantly clear to me that the reverence several people on here feel for the flag and anthem is on par with religion. The Mass is a rite full of symbolic words and gestures engaged in by a group of like-minded individuals, just like standing and singing the national anthem or reciting the pledge of allegiance. Any deviation from the norm is both noteworthy and immediately perceptible. I think the parallels are far more than you realize.
  16. "...spitting on a flag draped coffin in front of the family."
  17. Thanks for the tip, but I'd say the poster made it pretty gosh darn clear what is in her heart. A lot of unresolved grief and resentment, apparently, manifesting in a positively vile way that projects onto others and seems to blind her to or at least limit her view on a complex issue.
  18. That's heavy. Ironically, perhaps, Steve and Leo died under an oath to defend the Constitution, not your feelings. But what's done is done. Maybe you should endeavor to understand what is in those players' hearts, rather than judge them on a single perceived slight. Cheers.
  19. All things old are new again. From a different thread, almost five years ago* (* not picking on UND1983, just recalled this discussion and this post stood out when I looked back) From today's GF Herald: https://www.grandforksherald.com/news/education/6785561-UNDs-diversity-inclusion-task-force-issues-recommendations How will this play with the 'administrative bloat at UND is bad' crowd? Especially since UND ended up making some significant administrative cuts, as I recall.
  20. Go [insert generic adjective]HAWKS!
  21. Quote a single one. Post it in response to this. I'll wait.
  22. The world is full of information, messages, and stimuli - conflicting values - some of which are unpleasant, and most of which are completely sub-conscious or conveniently ignored. Look around you. Shirts, brands, imported cars, bumper stickers, billboards, political signs left in a yard long past an election, certain businesses (Chick-fil-A and Hobby Lobby come to mind)...you can't walk in a store or drive down a street without being bombarded with potentially controversial information. Some is self-defined, some requires context, some requires you to have had past experiences. If you think that you can sit in close confines with thousands of people for a couple of hours and be entirely free of "political statements," you're delusional. Tips for the offended Ignore the behavior. Look away. Focus on the flag. Close your eyes. Find a reason not to be in your seat. Don't donate. Don't go. Don't patronize (or give repeat business to) sponsors or companies who espouse values contrary to your own, or who hire people that do. If you do nothing else, you might want to take a moment and contemplate whether there is something greater at stake here, or whether the people engaged in the offensive conduct might have a different viewpoint, and figure out the true source of your 'offense.'
