  1. You're probably right. What I'm trying to say though is that we don't wan't the atmosphere in the locker room to be like that of a Juco, with guys talking about where they think they will be playing the next year, etc. We wan't guys to be thinking about how the team can build and be better the following year. The more of that there is, especially from older players, the better, whether or not they are a captain. I agree with where you're coming from in regard to his playing time next year, though. I think it's unfair though to say the team will be worse if he comes back, because you would be skipping over the issue, which would be undeserved playing time. I think he absolutely makes the team better if he comes back and has a decent chunk of playing time off the bench. I don't know much about basketball stats, but maybe this is worth looking at as well. Biggest issue with him is that he doesn't create fouls or rebound well enough. Using him to come off the bench and get some 3 help would be ideal. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/schools/north-dakota/men/2023.html Anyone else notice how well elijah brooks shot the ball this year? How much will he be a factor next year? Bigger role or no?
  2. I don't see how it's a problem unless Sather is going to give him playing time that he doesn't deserve. If other guys are better than him, they should play. If he was coming off the bench, you wouldn't really have a problem with that, would you? Also, his commitment to the program is important, because the youngers guys likely look up to him and learn a lot about life from him. It's important that UND builds a better culture and is a place that feels like home, rather than a pit stop.. that's part of the solution to what has been a terrible transfer issue within the program.

    Jerseys

Map shows Johnson Memorial Drive. Isn't there a guy on USCHO named Johnson Jerseys? I'd give it greater than 50% odds that poster is selling these knock offs. 100% speculation.
  4. He was "bad" enough to average over 10 minutes a game for a season in the Big Ten, playing in over 30 games. I guess I wouldn't call that being "bad" at basketball. Do bad athletes become 4 star basketball recruits and get legitimate playing time in the Big Ten? It's all relative, but even if he only did that for one season, I'd still consider it a success. It's all relative. Terrell Owens had a comparable basketball career. Turns out he was better at football. Happens often actually, and the most common position seems to be TE. 10 highest-graded current NFL players who played college hoops
  5. Speaking of M Soccer. The Summit League is down to 6 members as the OVC is adding the sport. https://ovcsports.com/news/2023/3/27/ovc-adds-mens-soccer-as-championship-sport.aspx Where's Fenton?
  6. Dino's! We want to be inclusive at UND, right?! To that thought, we could have a special game with football helmets that have different dinosaurs on them similar to how Navy had different helmets for each position group. https://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2015/11/30/9821260/navy-helmets-uniforms-army-game-ships-boats-kaboom-2015
  7. Are you basing your opinion on game reps or are you able to make it to practice? Can you compare/contrast him to Hoosman? Trying to get a better idea of why you think the way you do about him. Seriously interested because it's actual football discussion in the offseason.. not trying to troll you if that's the way it sounds lol Drake W NAU W Boise L SDSU 50/50 WIU W NDSU W UNI L Indiana St W Murray W USD W ISU W
  8. Interesting. I think we're going to have one of the best offenses in the country and I think our defense is going to be better as well, in large part, due to the coaching changes. I think we're gonna be a top ten team. Since you've been fairly down about the program/bubba, I'm curious what you were thinking we were on the cusp of? For example: Championship, Semi Finals quality, quarters, etc?
  9. So far in his career, Ziebarth has had only one game with more than three attempts. When he had the opportunity to show what he can do, in 2021, he seemed to make the most of it. Add me to the list of people who are interested to hear @UND-FB-FAN's explanation. https://www.espn.com/college-football/boxscore/_/gameId/401328364
  10. Seriously. Could see something like that being a "thing". ESPN would love to show clips of something like that as well in their different highlight reels. Memorable name and we could have quickly grown our brand at a more national level. Everyone knows schools that have unique nicknames. Meanwhile, people in the Twin Cities still don't know who the Fighting Hawks are. Really think it could have been a lot of fun and dropping the "fighting" would have kept people from being reminded that we are no longer the Sioux every time our name is mentioned. I'll never get over that... like nails on a chalk board to hear Hawks after the word Fighting...
  11. Was thinking recently that UND should have become the Dinosaurs. Toddler is in the phase and I learned that one of the most complete Triceratops skeletons was found in ND. Logo could have been a geometric Sioux style Triceratops head. Would be the perfect shape. Dino's would have been a bomb nickname, for short. Would have been unique, and FUN! Also includes ND history and location.... missed opportunity? ND Dino's?
  12. Better choice than Gymnastics if I was the real AD. Gymnastics would be fun though. The plan is for a practice facility addition to the North side of the Betty at some point, hopefully soon. Would make the most sense and it would be connected to the indoor VB facilities. Guessing the indoor VB coach and indoor VB locker rooms are typically used if possible?
  13. If UND ever needs to add a women's sport. Gymnastics would be my pick.
  14. It will answer all of your questions.
  15. They haven't done crap. Agreed. But you have faith in Fenton don't you?! Give him time... he's going to improve the league and I have no doubt about that. Have you listened to his entire interview on that Hot Mic podcast? You would enjoy it if you haven't. Edit: Well, they did finally get UND to join Also UMKC coming back and Oral Roberts as well, and Denver. Lucked out in having IUPUI and IPFW exit. Pretty much lucked into a huge improvement in conference membership. Not that it was necessarily by design. The league is in a good spot for growth though. And I know you don't like the SF BB tourney, but it's an event that sets the Summit League apart from other Low Major conferences, and revenue wise, it probably does well or better than the MVC if you combine Mens and Women. Similar Revs, probably way higher expenses in St. Louis.
  16. Which just underwent two massive renovations? Doubtful. Even if there was space that could be renovated, that money would be much better spent on a basketball practice facility.
  17. versus
  18. UND also doesn't have a facility for locker rooms or coaches offices like they do for women's soccer. Doesn't have the money to build them either.
  19. Few hundred thousand more in expenses/losses, and probably more, though. Summit League schools just don't have the resources for investments like that. Fenton would also get laughed out of the room if he said he was bringing the Summit up to FBS football, because right now, there literally isn't a path. The WAC/ASun is already backtracking on similar comments that they've made. I agree that Summit Football (and potentially hockey) may be necessary at some point, but I don't think the Iron is hot enough to strike, especially if the goal is to attract MVC schools. They just plain are not interested.. they won't even need to take a second to think about it. Summit Basketball would need to be much closer to the level of the MVC. As the Summit improves, I think it will get there, as it's likely the MVC regresses a bit at the same time. St. Thomas also needs time to adjust it's non FB budgets to the D1 level and they need to finish building (and fundraising for) their new arena. Fenton also needs to get the new media deal put together and he needs time to let his new media strategy develop (whatever it is), in order to make the league more attractive for it's next deal and potential expansion down the road. I think when the soon to be announced media deal is set to expire is when he will start pushing for FB, if he does go that route, because he will be able to use the leagues track record with their new TV deal and the potential for adding FB to the mix to negotiate the next deal/expansion. Fenton IS also of a similar mindset as you in regard to adding sports, by the way. Have you heard this interview? He basically says as much. Now just isn't the time yet, especially because so much is up in the air when it comes to the structure of D1 athletics as a whole and the future viability of single sport conferences.
  20. Are we that soft? The tweet wasn't even that bad... lol. Not even CLOSE to as low as ASU's antics after their win in Vegas! Should have been giving us a heartfelt thanks for the opportunity and instead they rubbed our nose in their one off win. To be honest, I would have been disappointed in the Gophers if they didn't acknowledge the circumstances of their presence in Fargo, which they did in that tweet as a direct response to how we handled the Holy Cross game, as mentioned by mafiaman. It's all we really have these days to keep a little bit of the rivalry going.. Anyone remember when Lucia wanted to put the rivalry on ice because it was too "intense", or whatever it was that he said? Would hate to go back to that mindset... BORING!!!
  21. Berry has what, at least a couple more years? If things don't improve, I've got eyes on Rick Zombo if he can surprise people for a couple more years down at Lindenwood. Listen to him on any podcast that he goes on... exactly what is needed here.
  22. Near the beginning of his tenure, just like Berry, but I'm referring more-so to the culture of each coaches' teams. Sure Berry could win another title, but I think any pretty much any current NCAA D1 coach could do what he's done so far, with the roster he inherited and with the facilities, tradition, and fan base that UND has to offer. Huge built in advantage. Berry's teams have no personality.. missing the grit that makes UND hockey what it is. Feel like the team is filled with a bunch of Joe Mauer/Ryan Suter types, if you know what I mean.
  23. Tibbits seems like the type of player that Sather has thus far failed to recruit. Someone that can handle the ball with speed and drive the net and cause fouls. If we want to be a team that shoots the three, we need some guys who can do this becuase he can drive and dish it for some great looks from three. Not saying Tibbits is a D1 talent or not, but his style of play is exactly what we need. Someone like Crandall or WIU's scorer. Doesn't have to be THAT good, but that same skill set is badly needed and I can't think of anyone that Sather's had that fits that mold. BJ is too tall and doesn't handle the ball well enough, but would complement someone like this greatly.
  24. It is. It pisses off alumni and donors at schools that cut the programs, it creates title 9 issues, and swimming facilities were huge investments which will still need to be maintained at schools that field the sport. LAX and Wrestling would add millions to athletic budgets of Summit schools, and that would hurt basketball, because the money needed to operate these programs has to come from somewhere - any additional investment should be going into basketball rather than non revenue sports. A Summit League with better basketball (and a highly profitable post season tournament) is what would keep teams from jumping to the MVC/A10. If anything, if we can improve investment in basketball, it could help us to poach select MVC FB schools down the road. Basketball is the main reason schools leave or are invited to different conferences.. Also, the Summit League being OK with DU's sports offerings is likely the only reason they're in the conference. Nice talking with you.
