  1. What is the goal of a program: to produce Olympians or win titles? You can't live off of two one and dones in the NCAA 4-5 years ago, which the team barley made it both times, it is a what have you done for me lately kind of world? 16-16-6 when you started preseason #6 in the nation doesn't scream elite.
  2. Now watch them scream at every football article saying they should be cut. Its already started. Its embarrassing to see after two wins against SDSU in softball those are the comments being said.
  3. One thing I like already: Sano is off to a nice start, hope for big things One thing I don't like: Buxton off a slow start and batting 3rd... drop it down to 9th and stick someone else there.
  4. The whole letter in the herald about Title IX makes zero sense coming from UND who has been... oh IDK.... Extremely cautious about that? Does UND make these kind of cuts without doing their homework, I mean come on now.
  5. So how will this play out? Will the team file a TRO against the school
  6. And that's all the people need to know!
  7. http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/4246201-und-says-womens-hockey-swimming-cuts-are-final#.WOVghKjzAqA.twitter That's just mind-blowing, 60 million?
  8. So its been the usual talking points
  9. Anybody going to watch to give a blow by blow on what they said?
  10. I think some of the ridiculous social media comments surprised me: The comment on FB that they think that Bubba is overpaid really floored me. How this slows down: Depends on if a lawsuit is brought or not. If not, I think once summer hits things will slow down. It might flair up when hockey season come around or a snarky comment here or there if FB, BB, VB struggle or salary gets bumped, etc. If a suit does get brought to the table... well all bets are off then.
  11. I think he really did know that it was a strong possibility of this occurring. I don't think he felt that with an administration that is only 15 months in and an AD who is hockey friendly (not saying that as a slight btw) they would actually do it. Kennedy and Faison called his bluff. Looking back at the articles in the Herald over the past few months and decisions from the Pres and AD, they did tip their hand on what they were doing once you put it all together.
  12. That would be a nightmare, a bigger one than what is going on right now. Put yourself in a department head shoes and you hear the news that UND renegs on an athletic team that loses two million a year... and your department is facing cuts that haven't been announced yet. How would you react?
  13. Hopefully they can get this wrapped up here in the next couple of weeks. Like to see them deal with Shank's scholarship sooner rather than later
  14. I would be down for a signature game or a tournament (maybe a Nodak/Montana challenge) for right now at the REA.
  15. I don't think they would be interested or actually happen... but what if the MVC went for the jugular on the WAC?
  16. I'll add to this by saying perhaps the games would have been better attended if there was a more local flavor. Not saying it would have made too much of a difference on the revenue side of things but if you were a casual hockey fan who would you rather see: someone from Europe or someone from EGF or Crookston or Warroad? Of course the bigger draw would be if they were able to win a bit more consistently than they did. With some of the talent they did have, they should have done a hell of a lot more with it.
  17. Allow me to play devils advocate on this: Does it really look any better to pull 26 hockey players out of class to attend a meeting saying their sport is cut? The outcry would stay the same: How dare the university pull these girls out of class to tell them that, they should have known better!" I don't think there was anyway it could have gone right for them.
  18. reduced expenses (1.3 million) and at 4%
  19. Here is what they ran down here in the cities http://www.kare11.com/entertainment/television/programs/breaking-the-news/players-launch-effort-to-save-und-womens-hockey/428207417
  20. I don't think its going to either, but the number just took me back.
  21. Someone did the math over on the GF Herald on how much money they would need to do it privately: a 32.5 million dollar endownment? Is that even possible?
  22. Even with those numbers UND is in the clear
  23. Kare 11 ran a blurb on the cut and said Idalski is trying to set up a meeting with Kennedy to privately raise the funds. And the team is still practicing.
  24. Hey, they won the opener! Already better than last year
  25. I know in the Pres thread there was a breakdown of athletes per sport, was that the latest up to date numbers or is there a new one? If the one in the thread is the new one, I did a rough calculation on the numbers before and after the cuts to test the first prong of Title IX The first prong of title IX is: Demonstrate that the percentage of its female athletes is nearly the same as the percentage of female undergraduate students. So I wanted to see if this was the case Before: M/F breakdown was 49/51 in favor of F (252 vs 261) After: M/F breakdown was 52/48 in favor of M (228 vs 207) IIRC, UND is usually around 52/48 in undergrad population So if my numbers are correct UND appears to be right in line with population breakdowns.
