  1. No he didn't, though he did suggest departments to consider future budgets when making the cuts. The $5 million hole Kelley left the school in was not a "one-time" problem either. It was ongoing due to an assumed exorbitant tuition increase and not making any changes when it was blocked. Hopefully president Kennedy and governor Stenehjem are better advocates for UND than Kelley and Dalrymple were. The universities funding formula will likely see some negative changes next year, and it already wasn't very rewarding to UND compared to other schools.
  2. Typically a hiring freeze, prohibition of out of state travel, and other simple reductions would satisfy the 4.05% cuts. They had to use those to meet the $5 million hole Kelley left the school in. Thus, deeper cuts are now needed to meet the 4.05% cuts.
  3. I agree it likely won't happen, but it should be on the table (and seriously considered). It is not one of the untouchable sports. Cutting any sport is difficult, or at least it should be.
  4. According to Jen Rice, she was going to sue the school until wrestling was dropped and women's hockey was added.
  5. I don't have a problem with baseball being cut. It stinks but hard decisions had to be made. UND went half way and pushed the elephant in the room down the road.
  6. I get it just fine. Most of my posts have been an attempt to get you and those of a similar mind to look outside the box you've confined yourselves to. Women's hockey may have been started with "good" intent, but it's a money pit. At some point you have to cut bait.
  7. Und gave away tuition waivers to get students to women's hockey games. It hasn't been just the Ralph.
  8. Title IX issue number 1 is now addressed. This has been the whole point. There are ways to work around Title IX without throwing $1 million in the burning pit.
  9. Has UND ever ran a promotion costing well in excess of $20k encouraging people to attend a single baseball game.
  10. So you're saying it's flexible..... there are ways to work around it. Weird.....
  11. Doctors are notoriously bad with money. Apparently nobody at UND ever told Kelley "no".
  12. Michigan also has FBS football, men's lacrosse, mens gymnastics, and mens soccer. Don't act like all those women's sports are there to replace women's hockey.
  13. Oh this is just about letting women exercise using the REA? That's simple. Basketball and volleyball already practice in a connected facility. Time for hockey to share exercise equipment with other sports.
  14. What women's sport uses the fargo dome? What women's sport uses Yost arena?
  15. The first year UND fielded a women's basketball team was 1894. Title IX was enacted in 1972.
  16. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10154062179217356&id=16576552355&fs=5 The world could do with fewer people like this Jen Rice lady. You can tell she's enjoying the cutting of men's athletics.
  17. Where are the Michigan, Michigan St, Miami, and Denver women's hockey teams?
  18. So the women's hockey scholarships don't all have to be cut. They can be reallocated.
  19. Are women's basketball, volleyball, soccer, softball, T&F, S&D, golf, and tennis all fully funded?
  20. The need to fully match the women's hockey cut with cuts on the men's side assumes things are even now. After today, I don't believe they're even. Also UND's student population is majority male, so the sports don't have to be evenly funded.
  21. Did said coach drop an upper-decker in the joint coaches' bathroom?
  22. I should have placed more emphasis on "a bit".
  23. Yeah, IIRC he threw UND under the bus a bit a few months ago for his development.
  24. Does UND bring in decent money from swimming lessons? May soften the hit S&D give the athletics budget. I really wish women's hockey was on the chopping block.
