One item to note from this, it appears the entire expense of the REA ($2.57 million) has been placed in the MIH section with no facilities expenses allocated to WIH. Also on the revenue side, when it comes to contributions "not related to specific teams" it would appear they're referring to champions club revenues ($3.14 million), which are driven almost entirely by MIH (primary) and FB (secondary).

Max Bautch - LB/FB - Blaine, MN was recently in for a visit, per twitter.

Agreed. Sad to see him go, but it's well deserved. Any idea what his contract is looking like?

Wonder when we'll hear about Stecher.....

Here's the athletics budget info from the 2013-14 school year. http://www.undsports.com/fls/13500/Athletic%20Dept/BusOps/FY%202014%20NCAA%20AUP.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=13500

November 11 and 12. Hockey vs Denver and Football vs N Arizona. Should make for a nice weekend.
-
WBB also offers a lot more than WIH. It already has better attendance at a much lower cost.
-
Exactly. Publishing actual numbers would be a death knell for collegiate athletics.
-
Thanks. The five positions on the right side being direct reports to the VPFO doesn't make much/any sense. http://und.edu/discover/_files/docs/org-chart-april2016.pdf - Here's the overall upper admin org chart, which is so large it's not a chart at all.

I'd love to see an organizational chart for UND.
-
Didn't say they're being mistreated, just said it wasn't as rewarding for UND as it was for most of the other schools. The Med School is a one-time item and not part of the funding formula. Dr. Wynne has done quite well advocating for the Med School (occasionally at the expense of the rest of UND, unfortunately).
-
Agreed. Wait, no, maybe?
-
$2 million?! I've been underestimating.
-
REA and UND spend more promoting it than they make off it.
-
If nobody knows your associated with them because it's a sport nobody watches or pays any attention to, then it's not going to be accomplishing much. It certainly is not a reason to throw away $1 million + per year.
-
What has women's hockey playing against the goofers done for academics? I'm seriously interested.
-
Agreed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but collegiate sports weren't originally designed to give their participants a free college education or their coaches a $100,000+ salary either.
-
No he didn't, though he did suggest departments to consider future budgets when making the cuts. The $5 million hole Kelley left the school in was not a "one-time" problem either. It was ongoing due to an assumed exorbitant tuition increase and not making any changes when it was blocked. Hopefully president Kennedy and governor Stenehjem are better advocates for UND than Kelley and Dalrymple were. The universities funding formula will likely see some negative changes next year, and it already wasn't very rewarding to UND compared to other schools.
-
Typically a hiring freeze, prohibition of out of state travel, and other simple reductions would satisfy the 4.05% cuts. They had to use those to meet the $5 million hole Kelley left the school in. Thus, deeper cuts are now needed to meet the 4.05% cuts.
-
I agree it likely won't happen, but it should be on the table (and seriously considered). It is not one of the untouchable sports. Cutting any sport is difficult, or at least it should be.
-
According to Jen Rice, she was going to sue the school until wrestling was dropped and women's hockey was added.
-
I don't have a problem with baseball being cut. It stinks but hard decisions had to be made. UND went half way and pushed the elephant in the room down the road.
-
I get it just fine. Most of my posts have been an attempt to get you and those of a similar mind to look outside the box you've confined yourselves to. Women's hockey may have been started with "good" intent, but it's a money pit. At some point you have to cut bait.

Und gave away tuition waivers to get students to women's hockey games. It hasn't been just the Ralph.
