  1. I'd poop my pants in excitement. Then again, I pooped my pants this year in anticipation for the Georgia Southern showdown. The really nice thing about playing a team from far away....just opens up more seats for the Fargo Faithful The nice thing about playing a UND, UNI, or SDSU in the playoffs if you win, is not only winning, but having something that a rival fanbase doesn't get to have.
  2. An interesting thing to take into account is that since the schools are both closeby, the likelihood of getting paired is probably pretty decent. You know how the NCAA works...they like to keep costs down.
  3. To answer the question in the thread title....we need to audit the boyscouts and make sure they are filing their taxes properly after they sell all this popcorn.
  4. Im with you that there would be a boatload of interest in Fargo. Delaware doesn't schedule Delaware State if I remember correctly. Is it because they are afraid of losing? Probably not. Is it probably because of some politics? More than likely.
  5. A Wagner or St. Francis is better. Don't have to make a return trip. It is a possibility. There have been plenty of times in the rivalry when the better team lost. I wouldn't use that as a reason for not scheduling them. I'd use the "you stopped the rivalry. not us." excuse. UND could use the game a lot more. Lack of buzz surrounding the program north of Fargo. I think right now, NDSU holds all the cards. At least until UND shows that they are at NDSU's level, I see no reason that the team up in Grand Forks thinks they hold a single one.
  6. Success in the 90's. Cool beans. In case you haven't noticed, the D-I NDSU is a lot different than the scholarship-ravaged teams of the 90's. For ten years, the UND game was the biggest game that the dome would have. Attendence has skyrocketed since going D-1. With the better players and added hype around the team, the difference between having UND come here, and having St. Francis here, is around 1,000 tickets. No benefit. Thats great for UND. UND was the middle of a great season...playing against possibly the biggest name in all of college sports and was able to get good attendence. NDSU, was at the end of an extremely disappointing season. Students were not there. At all. Lowest attendended game I have seen in years.. A more fair comparison might be looking at how NDSU's attendence was in a good year. The dome was rocking this year. No questions asked. The attendence reflected that as well. I have yet to meet someone calling NDSU "the laughingstock" of the FCS for anything other than Lakes. UND played how many sub-DI's last year? Pot calling the kettle black? You'll soon see that playing "tough" OOC is not a formula for winning. If you play the right formula...your tough OOC games will be in the playoffs. NDSU also has Montana and Montana St. on the OOC schedule in the next few years I believe. But I guess they are just cupcakes too.
  7. A chunk of it isn't enough. And honestly, it helps UND a lot more than NDSU. NDSU packs the dome. UND has trouble making the Alerus into a real football atmosphere right now. Getting NDSU into the Alerus would make it into a real football atmosphere and probably create a lot more excitement around a very stagnant program. If UND wants to play more than every other year, it will have to be in the playoffs.
  8. It doesn't make NDSU anymore money than a different home game does. In fact, playing it annually would lose NDSU a pretty penny of money. Losing a home game every other year....yuck.
  9. While UND was busy with their nickname crap, John Hoeven was being a productive member of the state government. This is/was/never will be his responsibility. He isn't an alum. Why would he have cared if UND successfully negotiated or not? He was the governor of North Dakota. Not UND's president or athletic director. Believe it or not, for the majority of North Dakota, this was not a top priority. Hoeven had other things going on.
  10. I-AA has more scholarships than D2 had during the D-II hayday (for me, its the 80's, i wonder why ). While you may be on to something, that the scholarship level drawdown of D II may make FCS seem like I-AA, its not. The NDSU team now, from what multiple 80's football players have said, would destroy them. Division 1 schools can recruit better players. Part of life. Is it FBS? No. But the best FCS teams can compete. Why was NDSU rated #32 in the final poll? Because they could beat a lot of FBS teams. Most of them in fact probably. Heck, maybe even a couple of the top 25 teams with how good the defense is. Do you think that a D-II defense has ever been as talented as this 2011 Bison team? Not trying to draw attention to my school here but come on! D-II was better back in the day.....but FCS is significantly better than D-II ever was. If it wasn't, why did UND decide to move up? For volleyball? No. For golf? No. UND moved up for basketball and football. Because FCS and D-I basketball are worth moving up for. The competition, the level of play, and the financial gains were worth it. If you are going to say FCS football isn't really D-I then I can make an equally compelling argument that D-I hockey isn't really D-I because half the schools are D-II and D-III. Just be happy that if the nickname situation subsides(it somehow could), that UND has landed in a very solid conference and it isn't worth sacrificing the conference for the sake of keeping some nickname. If the Bison had to revert back to the Aggies so that our "flagship" sport could survive as well as the rest of our teams, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I suggest you do the same.
  11. The FCS is not the new DII. Look at the Bison team that won the championship this year. This year would have wiped the floor with any D-II championship team. As would almost any FCS champion. The money invested into it is a lot different. If it was the same, why is Northern Colorado doing terrible? Could a D-II NDSU have competed with Minnesota? No. Switch your name. Avoid issues. Assuming you are right( your not by the way) that FCS is the new D-II, then shouldn't UND do everything they can to keep up with the other "D-II" schools? Do you want all UND athletics to lag behind NDSU, USD, and SDSU? FBS football, the good schools that is, are strange. No school in this area can compete in a nationwide sport.
  12. You want Kelley to lead? I think he has done an excellent job for UND. He has done what is expected. He hasn't gotten into any trouble. UND is growing. It is a good university. You think that he should waste his time trying to get a Big Sky President to back him up? You sir, are dumb. Believe it or not, he has other things going on as the president, and wasting his time on getting a president to back him up is both stupid and pointless. While you cling to a nickname that is a sinking ship, he has actively tried to get everyone on lifeboats. You on the other hand, (guy who started this stupid thread) are trying to keep everyone on the ship. You'd rather see everything UND has accomplished athletically go down hard. As a fan of the OTHER institution, I'm more than happy to watch UND go down, but you seem to want to lead the charge. You are not a fan of UND, in any way, shape, or form. People like yourself, are going to vote in June. And this thing is going to pass.more than likely. And then you are going to complain when you see your beloved hockey team start to take a few hits. You're going to complain when the football team isn't accomplishing anything while the OTHER school continues being successful. And you're going to complain when all the other sports begin to fail and you are left cheering for what is more than likely going to be a pretty sad athletic program. For the decent UND fans that have been trying to avoid this since the metaphorical iceberg a mile off, I feel terrible for you. For the ones who saw it once the iceberg was really close, I feel bad for you. For the ones who were ready to jump ship when it hit, I feel a little bad for you. For you idiots who STILL think the name is the way to go, I am happy to sit back and eat popcorn while everything goes to crap around you. /rantover. sorry for offending anyone....except the pro-nickname people.
  13. You do realize that these schools you listed have so much money generated from their football programs that the football revenue basically covers all sports. Basically, sport #1, if any of the sports, is the one making sacrifices.
  14. What they won't understand is why they can't take their hand off the (ncaa sanctions) burner when 5 minutes earlier, they dipped their hand into a bucket of (Sioux Nickname) super glue.
  15. When have you seen a conference kick out a team? When have you ever seen a situation as clustered and unique such as this one? Kicking UND out wouldn't be good or bad attention to the league. They have all the reason in the world to if they so choose. The Big Sky would probably rather take a bit of a PR hit and get rid of this mess than get dragged into this mess. It is but a matter of time until the nickname is gone. Whether its 6 months or 5 years. "Sioux" fans will lose this battle at some point.
  16. But....but....THEY CAN'T DO THAT TO UND!!!!!!111 Seriously, this is getting out of hand, the nickname people think this won't do anything to you guys. The hockey fans saying it is worth it? Why not just get rid of the name and see the whole athletic department do fine and probably (kills me to say this) compete for championships in some sports? If/when anything terrible happens to the UND athletic department, I'll grant you guys amnesty and welcome any takers to become NDSU fans Hockey fanatics, if Minnesota and Wisconsin won't play UND anymore, what kind of effects would you anticipate? Recruiting downgrade? Fewer ticket sales? Difficulty filling schedule with solid opponents?
  17. Nah, 5 years and a lot of drama later would not change anyone's stance! Silly...
  18. As a North Dakota resident...I will have that chance if it isn't found unconstitutional. Which from the little I looked into it, it sure seemed the SBOHE would be in charge of this, but we've all seen strange things happen before.
  19. You are clearly one of the "Save-Nickname-Instead-of-Athletics" people. Go read the sayanythingblog. You'll find more people like you there.
  20. As a member of Bisonville said, you may need to change Sioux Yeah Yeah cheer to "Sioux D-2!" Another suggested possibly making a shirt that says, "Fighting Sioux Big Sky Tour: 2012-2012" This is absolutely ridiculous that there is a soul left who wants them to try and fight to save a nickname that will destroy athletics. I feel bad for the rational fans.
  21. There is a big difference between people on here or on bisonville and facebook. Facebook is a more accurate representation of what "normal" fans are....cause not everyone on there is a bigtime fan. I think if the vote was tomorrow, you'd see UND be stuck with the name. I could be wrong, but the facebook friends of UND seem to be typical people. The sort of people who will vote yes because, "Of course UND should keep the name!" rather than doing what educated fans do, which is look and the pros and cons, as well as go out of their way to research a little bit of where this could lead to.
  22. When this vote comes up in June, the last thing you have to worry about is NDSU fans voting for it. Some will, some won't. But from the buzz thats been going on my facebook, all the UND fans I know sure seem excited to get the opportunity to vote for keeping the name. This thing is going to pass unless their is a HUGE change in public perception between now and then.
  23. No doubt that SL will win? Why doesn't the rest of Siouxsports share that opinion with you. DId I also hear from a birdie that you aren't afraid of getting the banhammer from the lovely schools out west known as the Big Sky? The longer this thing goes, the worse it is for UND.
  24. You'd be ok watching UND playing in a nearly empty alerus center? A bunch of ridiculously undersized or slow white boys playing together at a level slightly above high school? I'm sure the "LETS GO SIOUX" chants would be a great homefield advantage. "Hey honey, wanna go watch the Sioux play tonight? Big rivalry game tonight! Jamestown College has a tough team!" That is what you are going to say around this time of the year for basketball games. Hockey...I hope you enjoy playing Bemidji, Duluth, Mankato, etc. instead of Minnesota and Wisconsin.
