  1. Can't hate on the dude for speculating. Isn't that was internet message boards are for? Besides, this way, when the doom and glooom doesn't happen, it will allow you to be that much happier that said scenarios didn't pan out the way some feared they might. Went right over my head. Whoops, you know how jokes are tougher on the internets.
  2. A good chance for two schools to play in a game that will probably get more media attention than a normal game...if anything, wouldn't it give UNO less of an advantage because it will probably change up their normal rituals before a game.
  3. I can see why you'd be ticked about having to pay to park but remember, they want your cash. And since its basketball...they have all the justification in the world to ask you for some coin.
  4. .....that would imply that they are getting enough wins.
  5. Can't let the streak die! 5 straight years dishing out pain to SDSU. Love it. But the UND game is a big deal to me too.
  6. I will sign the petition if I see them outside teh Ralph tomorrow. DaveK can consider this a christmas present from me.
  7. In North Dakota, anytime the two school square off it is big potatoes. Specially football. To a lesser extent basketball. You know this.
  8. Flagstaff would be fine. Missoula and Bozeman fine. Greeley= Cow Town Cheney= lame. Cedar City= middle of nowhere. Seeing the Grand Canyon would be fun or whatever, but I have no idea what makes you think that would be worth some super long trip. Vegas would be great, you think the coach would seriously let them go out at night? Not a chance. Asking for trouble. So hence, Vegas would be lame.
  9. WYO talkin jive! Love it! ..........she is allowed into the cave?
  10. Population is why teams in the "warm" states would be better if hockey was a national sport. Appalachian State does still recruit well and you know that they are probably using the Michigan game as a recruiting pitch. A few years back, Kansas State made an appearance in Fargo for basketball. I'm sure that from time to time, both schools will bring in some bigger schools to play a little ball. I think Minnesota brought their baseball team to Fargo last year as well, Iowa State for volleyball game up this year. A lot easier to bring in bigger schools in sports that are less important to them (i.e. hockey)
  11. Bjorkland is a total dude when he is on his game. totally lit up Fresno(dunno if thats saying much), but he is a fundamental animal. I expect him to have a good game against UND. You should probably consider trading some of them for Alexander, Felt, Braun, and Bjorkland at least. Those 4 are very, very gifted young men. I expect at least 2 of them to light up the Ralph. I have a lot of faith in them but then again, so do you guys in your team. Nothing wrong with that. Hopefully it is at the very least a fun game to watch.
  12. You know, I grew up in North Dakota, never have watched anyone play hockey on a frozen pond, I know it happens, but you get the point. In Texas last week, I saw people playing hockey on ice outdoors, outdoor hockey must be feasible down there this time of year with cooling coils or whatever technology hockey uses. Even big schools in hockey areas don't all play. Colorado, Colorado St., Rutgers, Illinois, Penn State(Recently got it, about time). Almost all the big-time schools are members of the FBS. At least we do get an opportunity to play against them. I do believe that if one of the big guys in California, such as USC, UCLA, or Cal started a hockey team, they'd end up being better than teams like UND or Maine, or Saint Cloud. Off topic, but I wish hockey forced guys to stay until after their junior year like football. Appalachian State (everyone knows of them now) Villanova Georgetown And how many people watch the NHL? Heck, only 5 players from last years BCS national championship even got drafted into the NFL. So naturally fewer people are going to make it to the FCS game. It is a lot harder to get NFL quality players to any college than to get NHL quality players to a school. They have a small pool of places to go to play at a higher level. Of course the best collegiate hockey teams are going to be churning out professionals at a very impressive rate(UND and Minnesota seem to do this very well). College football, Division 1, has around 240-250 schools for them. A lot more options, not to mention football doesn't have the same 10 teams who are consistently the best the way hockey does...football has a more even distribution of talent even with the BCS conferences obviously hogging the "best" recruits. I don't know anyone who seriously wants to play LSU or Alabama. Some people made signs for it at the game and what not but I feel like anyone with any knowledge whatsoever knows that it would not go well. I do think it'd be closer than UND's game against Idaho!
  13. You make a compelling argument. Touche my friend. Tell Hayduke to quit belittling football championships. If enough fans of UND have his kind of mindset, it totally negates the point of going D-I since I feel like I can say with 100% certainty that neither NDSU nor UND will ever win a basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball, track title at this level.
  14. Hahaha You are comparing winning a DI hockey title (60 teams, several Ivy League, several small schools) to winning a D-I Basketball championship of over 300 schools? Come back to reality big guy. Putting hockey next to basketball or FBS or even baseball just makes you look like you took one too many pucks to the head. At how many of those "bigtime" hockey schools is hockey the number one priority? Michigan? Not even close. Ohio State? No. Boston College? Possibly. Hockey might be the most popular unless Doug Flutie returns there. Minnesota? State of hockey. Probably. Though it doesn't help that they suck at FB right now. Michigan State? Nope. Notre Dame? Rudy, Rudy, Rudy! Wisconsin? Football school. These are your big-time schools that play hockey. If hockey was a national sport, and was a national sport from the beginning(i.e. basketball and football), UND wouldn't have been a part of division I. Teams like Penn State, Texas, USC, Florida, etc. would all play it at the Division 1 level. UND would have been in division II with other national division II teams like St. Cloud, Duluth, etc. To me, bragging about division 1 hockey titles is a lot like bragging about Lacrosse titles. When you play in a very, very regional sport, you have little-no right bragging about national titles in it over a "lower level" of football, or comparing it to winning March Madness. But, it is a national title. Congrats to UND on winning them, but don't think because "it is the highest level" that it makes UND's titles in hockey any better than any of NDSU's football championships or even your own football championship, winning at a sport that literally every state has teams playing, significantly more difficult.
  15. On a basketball related note, I am very excited to watch this game. Basketball allows for a lot more flexibility in scheduling and I think fans of both schools are probably happy to have the other school on the schedule. I'll take NDSU by 10. It could easily be a route like last year but who knows what goes down. Obviously something weird is up in Grand Forks if you can let SDSU rock you the way they did and then shortly after you beat SDSU (no small feat for UND, Wolters is a dude).
  16. Your really going to compare someone saying Sioux Suck to a guy dropping an N-Bomb? Several natives of those tribes refer to themselves as Sioux and prefer to be called Sioux. I don't think you will find very many black folks who like when you call them the N word. It'd be one thing if people were referring to the Sioux as a derogatory name(I don't think any of those are as bad as dropping an N bomb.) You sir, may have just won dumbest post of the day and it is only 8:30ish. And sorry Vegas, that won't fly here. As hockey titles and football titles are two totally different animals. One sport you have to play against a significantly higher amount of teams. That is a discussion for another time.
  17. It is solid football I think. North Carolina has started to put together a decent program. I imagine like most schools down there, they do it with in-state talent.
  18. I've heard more pimping of this place than any other location in North Dakota. I have made two trips there. Once, drunk. It was solid. I left feeling content with what I just ate. Once, sober. Average would be an overgenerous word to describe the food.
  19. I'll be making the trip. Lamesauce that it is during the week. No reason this game shouldn't be on a weekend like the one last year was.
  20. Ok, what if both goalies play equally well? I'd assume you'd take the NHL team every time. Keep in mind, these are the 30 best goalies in the world....against a collegiate goalie who doesn't have a chance of being anything other than either A. a Bad starter, or B. a backup who can maybe come in. The skill of the NHL players should allow them to win 10 times out of 10. I don't care who it is. That is like saying LSU could take the Vikings....which couldn't happen. I think the Vikes are awful, but Jeez, LSU has about 20-25 guys who got a shot at playing in the pros, the Vikings have 50-some guys who are pros.
  21. I am not a bigtime hockey person by any means. I catch the occasional Flyers game if given an opportunity I guess, but would I expect UND, a team of guys who play together for 5 months out of the year and practice together probably a bit outside of that to beat a team of "all-stars" who get to play together for a much shorter amount of time? Yes. Especially when those all-stars are all 20 years old or younger. Sounds like your making excuses Thats like me saying NDSU shouldn't beat a Texas freshman in college all-star team who has had about a month or two of practice when NDSU has had years! Maybe thats a bad analogy, but its the best I can do, but me a bit of slack.
  22. If I remember correctly the calendar skipped a 2009....could be wrong though.
  23. Me thinks that the great people of Grand Forks have blown a lot of smoke up the hockey teams asses and they have won several national titles. I think both fan bases (NDSU and SHSU) will definitely make it very obvious to their teams that they are proud of them and expect a championship to be brought home(several on both sides declare that their team has already won the title as well, Lakes, I know you are creeping on the thread. I am talking to you.). I'd imagine that the focus that both teams have is going to be incredible for the next couple of weeks regardless of the fans. Countless hours? Debatable. I do enjoy chit-chatting and reading other people's opinions on local sports teams.
  24. <p>If I was a UND fan...I would not even consider cheering for NDSU. But...fortunately, I was raised in a good Pro-NDSU household.&nbsp; And I am a Bison fan. Never have/will cheer for UND. Gotta feel almost bad for Sam Houston State, no one gave them a chance other than their fans to get this far.&nbsp; Never have I ever witnessed a #1 team who gets more crap thrown at them than SHSU. I expect you all to sit in your living rooms in a few weeks, wearing orange and cheering for SHSU. That would be the right thing to do under the circumstances.
