  1. This is a terrible idea. 20 is a good number. If you watched any of the FCS playoffs, it was pretty easy to see that some of those teams really didn't deserve to be there. Make the regular season matter.
  2. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/02/07/organizers-say-have-enough-signatures-to-restore-university-south-dakotas/
  3. I am not going to read too much into this. I feel bad almost..for the people chill with letting the nickname go. For the idiots who want to save some NICKNAME and possibly crush UND athletics, people have warned you from the start to be careful what you wish for. People such as yourselves may have just dug UND's grave....just a matter of if the firing squad shoots or not at this point.
  4. To answer the question posted in the title, Popcorn demand skyrockets.
  5. I don't think they are aware that they are willing to sell the rest of the sports and concede them to NDSU. They would probably be the first ones to bash the sports and claim that there is no reason that UND isn't competing in those sports (even after sanctions would theoretically be imposed). I also imagine that they will use the lack of other sports success as a reason to justify why keeping the name was a good idea because "Its not like the other sports are winning anyway." As an NDSU fan, I am more than happy to watch this all go down. As a person who believes in humanity, some of this is sad to watch and some people really need to reevaluate their stance on keeping the nickname.
  6. Give me a call once UND wins against an FBS school. The team NDSU lost to 10-9 in Minneapolis, went to a bowl game and lost real close after blowing a HUGE HUGE lead to Texas Tech. Then I have a lot of friends in Minnesota who really like Gopher football, there is a reason that they get 50,000+ at their games. They have fans. Minneapolis is a big city that has gopher fans. Are they a good team right now? No. But you can't blame NDSU for getting them on the schedule.
  7. And you can get there will be some nervous people down here in Fargo in a year or two when those guys are juniors and seniors.
  8. I don't put much stock into anything before 1970....very proud of the teams who won titles in the 60's. But if you go 1970 to 2003, NDSU won more games against UND. But that is manipulating a statistic to show something other than All-Time. I think you guys are going to be pretty ticked off at some point about the complete lack of O-Line recruited. Then again, the Sky is a different animal than the Valley, and O-line depth and quality might not be as important out west as it is in Fargo.
  9. Thin on recruiting the offensive linemen. Every team could always use a few more hogs.
  10. You are telling me you'd rather go on a flight to California to play in front of 10,000 people than go to USD to play in front of 10,000 people...you must be nuts. Play at SDSU (3 hour drive from Fargo) and give fans a chance to pack the stands...or go to Montana (stadium, scenery)? I don't see what is so special about flying to California if your not going to be playing USC or Stanford. What he meant was the Valley is a lot more tight knit and the Big Sky is more spread out. Lets not pretend its going to be cheap or convenient for UND fans to travel to many games. UND fans seem excited about your class, that article did mention Portland State as recruiting well lately. Should be interesting to keep an eye of the sky for the next few years.
  11. Montana St. apparently snagged a pretty good qb from Texas again. UND's class was a little bigger than expected from what you guys are sayin on the other thread? NDSU put together what appears to be a good class. Recruiting Day is an excuse for everyone to pimp out their school when in all honesty, no one knows if these are good classes or not!
  12. Verbal commitments are really pointless at times. Until they sign on the dotted line, they have every right to switch schools. Heck, Gunner Kiel, #1 rated pocket passer was ready to start school at LSU for the Spring semester when he got cold feet and decided he wanted to go to Notre Dame....the day before classes started.
  13. It should mention he was committed to UND? I didn't see anything about him being committed one way or the other until tonight. As any story should, it should state the facts. Nothing else.
  14. I am guessing if Arp wanted to go to UND instead, he would have.
  15. I'm with Ranger on this one. It is a lot of money to pump into a kid's education when in all likelihood, he is probably going to be doing something else.
  16. Lets be real here. If North Dakota as a state had one major school (i.e Wyoming), maybe a move would be feasible to have an FBS team in Fargo/Grand Forks. But with the way things are here, and the lack of population...its not happening. Neither UND or NDSU will smell FBS other than playing an FBS school or two annually. Heck, even Appalachian State and Montana...two schools that have the fan support/ticket demand to make a move haven't done so. In the meantime, have fun kickin' back and enjoying the FCS like your brothers to the South (except Lakes, he is thinking Big 12 hehe ) Like Darrell said, if you want a big stadium full for a UND football game, feel free to use teambuilder and select Michigan's Big House as your stadium.
  17. Just call them free, its not like UND's hockey ticket thing where they make the students pay extra...which is a load of crap by the way. Oh, and using a seniority system instead of first come-first served is absolutely archaic and ridiculous as well.
  18. I don't want to turn this into some nickname debate, cause honestly I can give two craps about what any team calls themselves, my only beef with UND was they tried fighting against a contract that was signed to give them a chance. But thats for about a billion other threads on here, not this one. Perhaps they should have announced on the PA that the UND fans will refrain from calling UND the Sioux in chants if they were going to ask the NDSU fans to not say Sioux Suck ****. In fact, my ticket said, North Dakota Fighting Sioux vs. NDSU on it. What do they want me to refer to UND as in chants if not the Sioux (which was also printed on the court? If you are going to go the politically correct route, do it right! Anyways, not a big deal, I think we will all survive! Have a good one guys!
  19. Really? Are we really going to go there? Yelling Sioux Suck is no different than people yelling things about any other team. Is it appropriate for UND fans to throw dead gophers on the ice? Sure, I don't know anyone with a logical mind who is against it, other than the fact it is kinda gross...still funny though. If UND's name was the....Jaguars or Vikings or anything else.....people would still yell something against them. Part of sports...get over it. Nothing wrong with it. Now if they are yelling what we yelled at Belcourt in high school "WE PAY TAXES!" that can be argued is going too far...
  20. Trayvonn is really hot and cold. He can jump out of the gym but...as we saw last night, and several other nights, he has some very quiet nights too.
  21. That too would have been odd. If one fanbase rushes the court following a W, it'd be equally odd for the other fanbase to rush the court if their team won instead....even moreso considering NDSU was the road team.
  22. Tough pill to swallow. Watching the UND students rush the court was a bit odd but hey, shows the rivalry is alive and well which is nice. Both teams looked atrocious the entire game. Congrats to UND on winning, and shame on my guys for not performing well enough to get the job done. Hopefully it wakes them up that they aren't talented enough to sleepwalk through games. Couple things I noticed (too lazy to read through all the posts, sorry for any repeats). 1. NDSU let UND control the pace of the game it seemed like to me. NDSU is generally a more fast-paced team and allowed UND to slow the game way down. 2. The officials were terrible. Tons of obvious fouls went uncalled, a couple of no-fouls were called, the foul late was ruled flagrant or intentional?(couldn't see the ref well), and a time or two I think they should have called a jump ball for UND and instead called a foul on UND. 3. Both teams looked bad. No exceptions. Woof. Maybe it was the environment, cause it kinda happened in the dome last year too. If that is what is going to result of having the game in a strange venue for both teams, just play it in the normal arenas. Not a fun or smooth game at all to watch. 4. I don't think UND guy or Braun deserved technicals on that play in the first half. No one did anything TOO terrible. Rivalry. Let them play. 5. A cenile, old, UND fan got yelled at by his wife for telling me I'm a bad loser(among other things) while I shook a UND buddy's hand. Old people....gotta love 'em! See you guys in Fargo next year. Go Bison!
  23. Your opinion of NDSU and the Summit can't really go down if UND wins, considering UND has lost by 38 to a SDSU (along with a 20 point W), and got swept by Western Illinois. NDSU, beat UND last year by 28 points, while being a very average Summit League team. The better team does not always win, and a conference cannot be judged on a single game. Am I going to judge UND for losing to some bad Big Sky teams? No. Am I going to judge NDSU if by some chance they lose tonight? No. Especially in a rivalry, I won't judge either team for losing unless they get embarassed. Ok, so you are saying that UND had a better team than NDSU in volleyball without any doubt? I'd say the two teams are moreso even, and a lot of it comes down to which team is playing at home. That is besides the point anyway, considering volleyball is a sport that very few people care about. SDSU is a pretty good team. Methinks they probably took UND a tad too lightly the second time around, played a little bad, and I'm guessing UND obviously played better. Pretty sure NDSU fans care plenty about this game. Rivalry. Local competition. You are making yourself sound stupid. NDSU is in a no-win situation here but that makes it very important to win rather than lose.
  24. I cheer for the Iraqi's if i see them on tv. My mom works for a jail so I'd have to pull for the guards. I will put myself on record and say that if NDSU never had athletics, I'd pull for UND. But if NDSU just up and dropped sports, I'd still not cheer for UND so I know what your saying.
  25. Gene Taylor and Chapman were behind this... :| Oh, and Bresciani turned a blind eye towards it initially, until we get the PayForParkingGate Scandal Tapes from his office, we will never know how much he knew.
