Should the nickel trophy be on the line for future games?

Well since it was my idea, I better be invited to the groundbreaking ceremony. Heck, I'll send my kid instead. I'll be in the nursing home. -

Isn't UND building a 35,000 seat retractable roofed stadium at Memorial? Might as well just wait until that is done. -
Yeah, I really liked the nickel trophy. It was a pretty cool idea. Assuming NDSU/UND start playing again...and yes, anything is fair game considering the idiots over in the B1G. Maybe a large metal object shaped like North Dakota. And whoever wins gets a small school logo stamped on it. It would keep track of who has won the games too. it'd end up looking a bit like an Ohio St. helmet after 100 years but thats ok.

The person he was referring to was most likely me. So you are saying that a trophy that was rewarded to the winner for 65 years should stay hidden somewhere when the game isn't even played anymore and the Sioux nickname is probably gone? It belongs in a museum. It is a pretty cool trophy especially when compared to some of the stupid ones other schools play for. Everyone deserves to be able to see it at this point. 75% of this poll so far believes the Nickel should not be played for, if it shouldn't be played for, in your opinions, then it doesn't belong hidden somewhere in Grand Forks. There is no reason that it shouldn't be in a museum now. Prairie View is wetting themselves as well, just for other reasons -
Real sad deal. They seemed like a program was going to be a force to be reckoned with.

What does the overall record have to do with the fact that I think that the trophy should be in a museum where everyone can see it. Will it make you happier if I said it should have a plaque that has a list of all the Nickel game scores on it? -

Eh, Idk, its a little hostile and abusive. -
When NDSU swept UND (I think we did?) in volleyball and absolutely destroyed UND in basketball last year, I still wouldn't have been "GET THEM ON THE SCHEDULE!!!!" Texas A&M and Texas won't be playing anymore it sounds like. Those songs won't change. Even if they don't play, it won't change the fact that they hate one another. Don't pull the "holier than thou" card. I have loads of friends at UND. When we have went to house parties and such and I wear an NDSU hat, I get harassed all night. And thats fine. That is how it goes. Don't go claiming that it is just NDSU people who can't let it go. Bohl has said he doesn't want 12 games I believe. he has also said that he is open to discussing it though too I think.

I'm not going to rewatch it. I will presume there was some poor grammar and misspelling using Ballet instead of Ballot?

I cited the Montana schools as an example of teams I'd like to see NDSU play. We have agreements in place to play both of them I believe. I don't think too many people are "envious" that UND is going to play them. Just like UND probably isn't exactly envious that we play Northern Iowa and Southern Illinois and Youngstown State. I'd say right now the game is more important to UND than NDSU because NDSU has a lot of big, positive momentum. UND right now, is struggling with attendence, and fan interest. I imagine if UND makes a smooth transition into the Big Sky and gets its issues fixed, then the game will not benefit either side more than the other. I am not sure, but they've received about $10 million since September. I first remember hearing anything about renovations after the Woodside Administration made it to the Big Dance.

http://www.inforum.com/event/article/id/360888/ Haha, sorry darell but it sounds like the money is pretty well there now to get started as soon as this fall. But if you want proof NDSU's football budget is better than UNI's look no further than last year when we gave their defensive backs/defensive coordinator a demotion and he came to Fargo because he was getting a raise.

I voted to retire it. I doubt NDSU and UND will be playing annually anyways. I'd send it to some state museum or something. It is a cool piece of history. -
Prairie View and Robert Morris are coming to the dome to get stomped, and we don't have to make a return trip. That is what makes them worthy. UNI also has less money to throw around than NDSU...to be fair.

I haven't talked to anyone who thinks UND won anything last year, my sister lives in DC and said she got a lot on congrats on the NDSU victory from the other congressional assisntant people, no mentions of UND. In all honesty, no one outside of the FCS world and college hockey world has any idea who NDSU or UND are. But like I pointed out in the first post, I said you guys wouldn't like the parts that were not about the Measure 4 vote stuff. Looks like that holds true.

No. People like lakes are trying to not want the game. There was a small sioux suck chant at the game. There was a sioux suck chant when they got home. I have been to every home game for years...I haven't heard a real sioux suck chant at an NDSU football game since we actually palyed UND. In the student section, you'll hear a few people and clusters of friends do it from time to time. Yes, I am not surprised at a former Bison players wedding they would do that. It is something Bison fans have always done. I don't know why you care....it is just what people do. The Texas and Texas A&M fight songs both talk crap about the other school. Those schools will not be playing from now on, and I'm betting the songs will not change. Someone is Fargo, has been Division I longer. And probably trying to make a schedule that works out based on a variety of factors. Now that UND is in the Big Sky, you will probably find out that there is nothing wrong with being selective about who you play out of conference and when you play them.

http://www.kfgo.com/uploads/Gene_Taylor_05172012.mp3 Sounds like the gun was jumped. If you have 5-10 minutes to spare, Gene Taylor talks about the likelihood of a game. He sounds much more cautious about saying anything, though he did mention something to the the media blog or whatever. Taylor seems to think there are a lot of details he'd like to get figured out before agreeing to anything. Remember, football is king down here in Fargo. And if you bring up potentially playing UND in football, that is going to generate a ton of conversation. Btw, if you read the entire thread, just look for stuff lakes has texted or emailed some of the posters. Its good for a laugh. He should be on suicide watch.

Funny Dave, I guess all those games against the NAIA schools in South Dakota are pretty noteworthy.

No, I am saying I'd like NDSU to get home-and-homes with some of the big powers such as Montana, App State, Montana St. home-and-home. I don't want NDSU to lose a home game every other year (referring to NDSU/UND game every year) and lose the chance to watch the Montana's and App States of FCS. Not every year allows for 12 game seasons. I saw a list of when 12 games will be allowed, and it looked like once every 5 years or something along those lines? NDSU has made it work just fine without playing UND. In fact, NDSU football is a bigger event now than it was when UND was a part of the schedule. UND could really use the big local game on the schedule for fan interest, NDSU doesn't gain that same benefit. Maybe by the time this game would be played, UND wouldn't need the big "signature" type game on the schedule to generate fan interest anymore, but right now, I look at UND and can't help but think, "What have you done in FCS to merit NDSU signing a home-and-home with you?" I understand that rivalries might be an exception to that way of thinking, but I'd like UND to accomplish something before NDSU signs into an agreement to go on the road to play them. While this is certainly possible, and very likely that some years UND will have a better team, keep in mind that division II success doesn't always translate. UNC is terrible. They have been genuinely bad since they moved into the Big Sky. They were quite a force towards the end of their time in Division II. Anytime a school moves up, they risk falling flat on their face. It is completely possible, that UND falls on its face just like Northern Colorado. It is also completely possible, that UND becomes a middle of the road team, or UND becomes an exceptional team. I agree that the game should be played, if it isn't played I really won't care too much.

Right now, as people on here have even acknowledged, UND football is in a bit of a rut. NDSU's recent success has taken a lot of the state's focus away from UND. As conceited as it may sound, this almost gives UND some attention out of nowhere, and really doesn't give NDSU much of anything. The fact that they might have this scheduled, may encourage UND fans that have fallen by the wayside to start going to games again. That might be grasping for straws a bit, I am just having trouble explaining what I mean. So give credit to Faison for sticking to his guns and then giving in to the other AD? I like the every other year idea. Gives both teams an opportunity to get a wider variety of FBS and FCS OOC games. NDSU has agreements with Montana for a home-and-home, Montana St. as well I believe. I like the idea of playing some other teams like those. Playing UND every year takes away some of those opportunities, especially if we want to have an FCS cupcake, and an FBS game every year.

NDSU will make money in football regardless. UND gets a significant benefit in this, NDSU doesn't. I am happy they are most likely playing again, but that doesn't change the fact that this benefits one school a lot more. No, UND is not making much of a sacrifice. A home-game at UND is nothing like a home-game at NDSU. When you have soon-to-be 12,000-some thousand season ticket holders to answer to, they want home games. Because football games 10-20 years ago are very significant in deciding who would win. I don't think anyone is "deathly afraid" of losing a football game. It would be no fun to have the team lose, especially to an in-state rival. And yes, UND won a big majority of the games down the stretch in the series, hard not to win games when Babich is in charge! It should be fun to get the games going from time to time again.
-
I am guessing the reason that a whopping two videos are on the internet about it are because A.) NDSU has been doing very well at things and it is fun to jab at a rival. and B.) this whole nickname thing gives us another thing to laugh at. I imagine the videos would have been made regardless of the final score in that game.
-
The game when NDSU thumped UND by 20-some wasn't that fun either. Hahaha oh I'm sure. Have fun.
-
Marcus Williams said Sioux Suck. Get over it. He knows the fans eat that sort of stuff up. He also has a sister who plays ball up there. So....like I said, I think it will be interesting to see how the players respond to it. In the two basketball games played against one another, I think we all got let down. I thought both of those would be a lot more fun than they were.
-
I also wonder how many UND fans will get tickets? This isn't the 90's anymore when people can get tickets for this game if they want. Assuming NDSU season tickets are at 12,500 ( I have read this number I think on bisonville a few times) and another 3,800 student tickets. That is 16,300. Assuming that they will sell 19,000 tickets or thereabouts, that leaves 2,700 tickets. Then throw in that a lot of non-season ticket holding NDSU fans will want to go.... A possibility is that NDSU and UND maybe make an agreement to get the away-team ticket allotment to be higher than normal. This will be an exceptionally difficult ticket to get in Fargo.
-
I believe it holds 18,901 or something like that. But that doesn't mean everyone with a ticket will show up. For one reason or another, not everyone will make it. Sickness, weddings, kids' events, etc. If UND wins, Lakes will probably kill himself. I myself plan on falling on a sword if NDSU loses, cause thats honorable and stuff. I think it will be interesting to see how the players respond to it. I'm sure they are aware that the fanbases don't like each other and all the other hooplah, but they still probably won't quite have that animosity towards one another. Discuss.
