We have had trouble getting this program off the ground. Maybe this coaching staff will be able to do it. They are off to a good start. GO SIOUX!!!
-
The Wild actually spent some money during the offseason to supplement their home-grown talent. Too early to get Stanley Cup Finals tickets at the X, but they are moving in that direction.
-
Fair enough on player of the game. I also think there was too much passing tonight (and even Friday) and not enough shooting. Being a puck hog is bad. Being too unselfish is almost worse sometimes.
-
Hmm, maybe the guy who scored the lone goal in the game (Jake Dowell)? That is who FSN picked. Without that goal, the game likely ends in a 0-0 tie (yawn) and we get out of there with 3 points on the weekend instead of just 2. It's pretty easy for a player like Elliot to "get the job done" when most of his saves were shots from the point or the face-off circles. Goalies at this level will stop those shots 99% of the time. The difference in the game was the turnover by Finley and the Badger player who was there to put it in. But I am sure that Brad Schlossman won't agree with that assessment. Oh well, time to move on to Maine at the Ralph next weekend. Another tough series, with Pairwise Ranking implications.

I was actually talking to redwing77; but that's okay. It's good we can have fun on siouxsports.com after a tough road loss. After all, it's only October!
-
I think he was talking about the Grand Forks Heraldo.
-
Come on PCM! Don't tell me you are drinking the "hot goaltender" Kool-Aid too?
-
That is what started the "hot goaltender" excuse for every single loss. I'll buy the "hot goaltender" theory sometimes, but not every single time you lose. The Grand Forks media promoted that idea so many times it almost made me throw up.
-
A split on the road is pretty good in this league. But still..... One defensive lapse will cost you in games like this. Joe Finley will bounce back, as will this team next week vs. Maine at the Ralph. You can almost bet that Brad Schlossman will pick Elliot as the key player in the game; the opposing goaltender is almost always the key player in the game in his articles when we lose no matter what the stats say. Time to focus on the Black Bears.

We are getting played like a fiddle right now. Almost time to pull Lammy.
-
Penalty coming up on Sioux.
-
I think the first goal wins this game. If it goes to overtime, I think it ends in a tie. 3 out of 4 at the Kohl Center wouldn't be too bad.
-
End of second period. 0-0 tie. I think there will be a fight before this game is over.
-
Too many passes around the net, more shots needed.
-
Not a goal. Hit the crossbar and went straight down, where Elliot covered it up. So close..... Great effort by Oshie, though.
-
Another low scoring game. Lammy can't afford to let a soft one in.

If you really believe that a team can win a national championship playing every single playoff game on the road, you are kidding yourself (especially in the region we are in). Is it possible? Sure, nothing is totally impossible. Is is likely? No way. Both years we made it to Florence (2001 and 2003) we were at home for the playoffs (all three games). In 2004, we had most of our games on the road and lost in the semifinals. That year, we beat Grand Valley State at the Alerus. I don't think we would have won if it had been at Lubbers Field. Dale Lennon always talks about how important it is to get a high playoff seed so you can host games. Being at home for the playoffs is more important in football than in any other sport. You can have some of your games on the road and get to Florence, but the deeper you get in the playoffs, the tougher the teams are and the tougher it is to win on the road. I know that Northern Colorado won back-to-back National Titles playing a lot of road games in 1996 and 1997, but they had at least some games at home. And I think they were more of the exception rather than the rule. Remember, this is not hockey, where tournament games are at regional sites. Being on the road for every playoff game means no national title. You can disagree if you want, but that is my take on it. I was merely spectulating on Manke's injury; Hammer made it sound really bad when he was sacked to end the game. I am glad he is all right. As for the rest of our schedule, Duluth at home will be tough. St. Cloud on the road (I don't care how much they are struggling) will be tough and South Dakota at home will be tough. With Manke back in two weeks (we are off next week), we'll have a good shot of running the table. Today's loss wasn't a backbreaker, just very disappointing. GO SIOUX!!!

Okay, so you were right once in your life! Everything else will be gravy from now on! Good for you! Now Beat It, Troll!

Man, after what just went down in Omaha, I really want a sweep in Madison! If Elliot is "hot" tonight, I am going to be PO'ed. GO SIOUX, GET OUT THE BROOMS!!!
-
Pending a possible injunction against the NCAA in court, that could change. If we can't get it overturned, we can kiss any hopes of winning it all goodbye. If we lose another game before the playoffs, we won't be hosting any games anyway. And if Manke is out for the year after today, I think that's a very strong possibility.
-
And later that season, the Mavs lost three straight to end the season and the Sioux won the National Championship. Like I said above, let them have this one. When it counts late in the year, these guys don't get it done.
-
Agree with you on the 4th and goal. Omaha went for it early on 4th and goal and made it. UND has had success doing that this season, but didn't even try. Lennon is too conservative sometimes. I think on the road, in a place you haven't won in since 1995, you have to take risks like that. They didn't. If we had went for it on 4th and goal and failed and lost the game, it would have been easier to swallow than this.
-
Omaha treats this game like the Super Bowl instead of just another game. When it comes playoff time, the Mavs don't get it done. They are a regular season team only. Let them have this one. We'll see who has the last laugh.

Time for Danny FreUND?

Manke sacked at 1 yard line. Ballgame over. UNO 21 UND 20 Reed Manke hurt. A really bad day so far in Sioux country, time to focus on Sioux-Badgers tonight.
