  1. So it would be "feasible" to just tear it down? Don't be so sure. Demolishing buildings is not cheap, either (why do you think the old REA is still there). Either we tear it down and build something else there or we renovate it. As it stands right now, everything except the pool and the athletic department administrative offices are under-utilized and/or un-utilized spaces. We should push for maximum utilization of all of our assets, both old and new. That will help us be more successful in Division I across the board.
  2. At least Rocky was entertaining (remember the 364 days in hell comment?). Amy was classless, tasteless and the biggest sore loser in the North Central Conference.
  3. No, I am calling YOU an extremist, along with DaveK, Fetch, Chewy and a couple of others on here. All that nonsense that the sanctions were "a small price to pay" to keep the name and logo is what I am calling extremist. 68% of North Dakotans disagreed with that suicidal viewpoint. The Native Americans of this region have been used as pawns by both sides of the nickname debate for years and that is something we all should be ashamed of. If UND had done more engagement with the tribes over the past 30-40 years, this day wouldn't have had to come. But in order to save UND athletics, the name and logo had to be retired. There is no joy in my heart on this issue, just relief that UND athletics will have a fighting chance to succeed in Division I.
  4. UND had a certain period of time to get approval from both tribes. We got one tribe's approval (Spirit Lake), but when it was apparent that Standing Rock would not give us their approval and the SBoHE decided to begin the retirement process, I (and some of us on here) decided that enough was enough. And this whole thing would have died a long time ago if it wasn't for "Clueless Al" Carlson and the Spirit Lake Committee for Understanding and Respect. And, for the record, I could care less about being "part of the crowd" in anything. I have taken positions on this forum that are contrary to the majority opinion and gotten flamed for it. And I will do so in the future.
  5. I wasn't talking about wins and losses and titles, I was talking strictly about class and professionalism. And Ms. Ruley was sorely lacking in both. One of the sweetest wins in UND Women's Basketball history was the 1999 North Central Regional title game at Hyslop where the Sioux destroyed the Bison. I was in the student section chanting "Warm up the bus" at poor old Amy. She had that coming for a long time.
  6. I was a strong supporter of the name and logo, but I (unlike some people on here) would NEVER place the name and logo ahead of having a strong and successful athletic department. I knew as soon as the 2007 settlement was signed that it was game over. I was 110% against "Clueless Al's" stupid nickname law because I knew the NCAA would simply ignore it. And I was just as ticked off when the Spirit Lake Committee for Understanding and Respect put the issue on a state-wide ballot. But you are right, a lot of people on this forum were happy as pigs in slop when the nickname law was approved. Thank God the people of North Dakota did the right thing last week.
  7. A school that once employed Amy Ruley as Women's Basketball Coach shouldn't talk about class and professionalism.
  8. That is a shock considering that Fargo is the Center Of The Known Universe; EVERYONE knows where the mighty Fargo-Moorhead MSA is. They're the next Minneapolis, you know.
  9. Why are you still here? Your extremist position was rejected by the voters of North Dakota on Tuesday, June 12th. You, DaveK and Fetch should all get together and form a lobbying group to get REA to replace UND with an AHL franchise, because all that matters with you guys is the name and logo.
  10. I beg your pardon? I didn't realize that you legally owned the State of Colorado. Are you planning to secede from the Union and declare yourself President for Life? Please stop trolling and stick to the subject matter. Everyone would appreciate it. Thank you.
  11. Just heard on KFGO's News and Views program that the ND Board of Higher Education has voted to allow UND to retire the name and logo. http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/238757/
  12. This says it all.
  13. But, but, but, but........Rob Port insisted that the Big Sky was "only bluffing" and would never, ever even THINK of kicking us out! Seriously, this is awesome news. I am so looking forward to the first season of football in the Big Sky Conference!!!
  14. The repeal of the nickname law has a provision that prohibits us from picking a new name until 1/1/2015.
  15. You are persistent, I'll give you that.
  16. Hey Fetch, shouldn't you be off lobbying the Winnipeg Jets and REA, Inc. to replace UND with an AHL franchise? We have listened to you blather on and on and on about it for the past several months, now it's time for you to put up or shut up.
  17. Just more NCAA incompetence.
  18. I think we should respect the cooling off period imposed by the repeal of the nickname law (which was upheld last night by a 2 to 1 margin) and just focus on the first year in the Big Sky conference and the first year of playoff eligibility. I was in favor of moving on, but I certainly am not in the mood to talk about a different name and logo.
  19. This is blatantly false. Not being able to play Minnesota and Wisconsin in hockey and other sports IS a big deal. Not being able to host playoff games IS a big deal. Not playing schools we have had long associations with (NDSU, SDSU) IS a big deal. And the people of North Dakota, by a 2 to 1 margin, sent a clear message that losing all of that was too big of a price to pay. Of course, people like you will always insist that all of these sanctions would have been "a small price to pay" to keep the name and logo. Most people on here are sad to see the name and logo retired, but most of us realize it is a necessary evil in order to compete in Division I athletics. I understand your feelings (I share them), but sometimes in life you have to move on and this is one of those times.
  20. DaveK is probably online ordering his Minnesota Golden Gopher hockey jerseys, t-shirts and jackets. Since the name is being retired, he'll have to find a new school to support.
  21. Trying to come up with more conspiracy theories on how "the folks in North Dakota" were "fooled" and "scared" into voting Yes and how "it ain't over yet".
  22. Don't let the door hit your butt on the way out.
  23. I think the first polls start closing at 7pm, so you should start to see some results then.
  24. Property taxes are hated because they are very regressive, subjective and hit the people that can least afford them the hardest. In 2008, people had a chance to vote themselves an income tax cut and it was soundly defeated. If Measure 2 had a logical plan to replace the property tax with something more palatable, I think it would have had a fair chance of passing. And if Bismarck doesn't do something about property taxes in 2013, this issue WILL come up again.
