  1. Really? So we are going to give a local HS veto power in this? Sorry, but I don't think so. Like I have said before, if we start with the premise that we have to use a name nobody else is using, we will get nowhere.
  2. Agreed, it's a stupid rule because it isn't enforced evenly. Either enforce it or get rid of it. I was just providing a possible rationale for why they have it. But it's the NCAA so don't look for them to make sense all the time (or even most of the time).
  3. I think basketball might be cheaper to run than football. There also are about three times as many games in a basketball season than a football season. And lastly, whatever revenues are lost from poorly attended regular season games are more than made up in the conference tournaments and the NCAA tournament. I am thinking the national college football playoff will help football financially when it comes to the post-season.
  4. Grand Forks got hammered last night. Lots of branches down, widespread street flooding. Some areas lost power; I was fortunate in that I did not lose power, just some flickering. My kitty didn't like all the wind and rain and noise, but she handled it pretty well. Today is much drier and more comfortable outside, which I am grateful for. Monday was unbearably hot and humid.
  5. I think Roughriders or Oilers would make the most sense and be accepted by most people.
  6. I don't see it happening. Do you really think REA wants to have a 60% drop in attendance for hockey and basketball? And do you think UND wants to have a similar drop in football attendance at the Alerus Center? I am not a big fan of Kelley and his leadership style, but I believe him when he says he will not do this. There is just too much to lose, starting with his job.
  7. Or they could at least start the long process of picking a new name. The sooner they start the vetting process, the better.
  8. You can bet if you ask President Kelley, you'll get his favorite response to everything: "No comment".
  9. Really? So if the Bison have a few lean years, KVLY should cover them less? Please tell me you don't believe that.
  10. For the moment.....
  11. I think WDAY having the radio contract for our teams has something to do with this. As for KVLY, they are basically a branch of the NDSU Media Relations Department.
  12. I think this is something that will reveal itself during the 2014 campaign. In a situation like this (coaching change, massive transfers off the team, last-minute recruits, JC and FBS transfers), it is very difficult to predict which kids will step up to be on-field leaders.
  13. The Twins are showing signs of a revival this season and I think it has a chance to bear real fruit in the next 2-3 seasons. But they are still a below-average club this year. Whether the ownership is willing to pay to keep these young guys once their contracts are up will determine if this franchise is a consistent contender or a consistent wanna-be.
  14. Saw this story in the Grand Forks Heraldo this weekend on Billy Mills and his opposition to the Washington Redskins nickname and logo. http://gazette.com/ramsey-gold-medalist-billy-mills-opposes-racist-redskins-moniker/article/1522406 Whether you agree or disagree with Mills, I hope nobody on this forum has the nerve to label him a "bedwetter" or any number of other adjectives I have seen nickname opponents get slapped with on this forum. I was against changing the Fighting Sioux name and logo, but I sometimes think our fan base was its own worst enemy during that whole fight with the NCAA.
  15. Okay, then let's just build a big wall around America, right after we hunt down and deport all 11 million illegal aliens in America right now. You'll find most of them picking veggies out of the fields of California's Central Valley. And then I'll watch you and everyone else here whine and moan and complain about having to pay the bar tab to do it. And it will be a big bar tab, I can assure you. But if you want it, you better be able to pay for it. A lot of people volunteer their time to teach these people English and help them assimilate into the community. I used to work with one of them, she has since moved on. A lot of charities and churches do similar work with these and other less fortunate people. It isn't all "big gummint". So you should just get off your moral high horse about this topic because you don't know what you are talking about.
  16. I beg your pardon, but I pay all taxes except property taxes (which I think should be replaced with something else). Any questions or do you just need help pulling your foot out of your mouth.
  17. You really think Somali refugees are in any position to overthrow the government? That is pure paranoia. The refugees you so casually throw under the bus are here to get away from the Islamic militias that are trying to take over; they are on our side, not theirs. And having a religious litmus test for refugees is deeply offensive to what America is supposed to be about. We Americans need to stop whining about taxes and appreciate the fact we live in the greatest country on earth. And we need to help those less fortunate who want what we have. Anything less is not the America I was raised to believe in.
  18. And I suppose you were against the Marshall Plan too because it cost money? Helping people in need is what America does. It's what gives us a positive image on the world stage. Of course, some people don't care about that.
  19. Because their homeland is lawless and war-torn and the Somalians want their children to have a chance at a decent life. As to how they get here, I believe there are some non-profit charities that work to get them in the United States and get them on their feet once they settle here.
  20. Let me try to explain this again: I was responding to a comment by Oxbow6. I was not responding to the GFPD or the witnesses. You are reading way too much into this.
  21. I was being inclusive of Latios, Native Americans and Asians so that my comment would be more accurate.
  22. They have to provide an accurate description of the suspects so that they can find them.
  23. No profiling in your post, just stating the obvious. There just aren't very many non-whites that live in Grand Forks permanently.
  24. If you live in Grand Forks, please be cautious until these two suspects are apprehended: http://www.wdaz.com/content/update-victim-identified-murder-investigation Here is a description of the suspects, along with GFPD contact information: Stay safe everyone.
