  1. Ah, the dreaded "t-shirt" card. I did not see that coming. Well played. I don't think you are a jerk or a prick. I am just sick and tired of some people on this forum who don't seem to care about what keeping the name and logo would have meant for our coaches and athletes. There comes a time when you have to cut bait and move on because the costs of continuing the fight outweigh the potential benefits. This is serious business and I take it very seriously. If your original comments were tongue-in-cheek, I apologize, as they didn't seem to be. You might want to use or in the future so that there isn't any confusion.
  2. I am with you on Title IX. But that doesn't mean that lacrosse is not an option for us. Get rid of both baseball and softball and replace them with men's and women's lacrosse. If we can play it indoors (Alerus Center or IPF), we won't have to worry about weather. It also has a tremendous upside for the future.
  3. Never. My desire to move on is not based on a dislike for the name and logo; I grew up with them. But if they are going to damage UND and it's programs, we need to choose a different name and logo and move on. I will leave my pseudonym as a tribute to the history and tradition of the name and logo and all the teams that won championships while wearing them on their uniforms.
  4. I am not on here to win popularity contests, so you can save your snarky comments for someone who cares. I have had it with selfish, sanctimonious people like yababy8 insisting that they get what they want despite the negative consequences that would have to be suffered by our coaches, student-athletes and, to a much lesser extent, our loyal fan base. And I don't think that loyalty is determined by how willing one is to move on from the nickname issue when all the good alternative options have been exhausted. Yababy8 apparently cares more about the name than the institution; that is his right. But when certain individuals blast me with "everyone is entitled to their own opinion", what they are really saying is that people like yababy8 have a right to their opinion.....and people like myself are supposed to be quiet and go along with the crowd. Well, I wont do that because it is the people that won't let go and move on that are holding UND back. The more we fight this battle, the further we fall behind the other Dakota schools (NDSU, SDSU, USD) and our Big Sky brethren. And lastly, if you don't like the length of my posts, you don't have to read them. And if are reading this message, it is obvious you have made your choice in that regard. Oh, and I almost forgot...... End Rant.
  5. But nobody is entitled to be exempt from criticism for expressing said opinion. And if someone expresses an opinion that might hurt UND and it's mission, I will criticize it. Got it?
  6. Look Junior, I am as big of a critic of Kelley and Faison as you will find. But you are simply wrong on this issue. Deal with it.
  7. I suppose we should do what they did in Baltimore during the civil unrest last week and have the games in an empty arena? Because that is what some of these games have been like. Meh yourself.
  8. It is "fans" like you that are holding this entire institution and its programs back with your "hockey only" rhetoric. While NDSU wins FB titles and goes to the NCAA tournament in MBB, we sit around and fight losing battles like this over and over and over again, even with the knowledge that we cannot and won't win. We fought the good fight and lost, so it's time to move on and start building Division I programs (not just hockey) that everyone can point to with a sense of pride. But if that isn't good enough for you, you are more than welcome to get off the bandwagon. The rest of us will proceed to enjoy the ride upward and forward.
  9. MafiaMan is the only person I have seen that is crabbier than usual on Fridays.
  10. Which scares me as someone who really wants us to build strong mid-major basketball programs and an FCS-title contending football team.
  11. Makes no sense. But I suppose nothing about this whole sorry issue makes sense either. So it kind of does make sense, in a nonsensical way!
  12. I like Aviators. We could use a picture of the Red Barron on our hockey jerseys!!!
  13. Goon should breathe easier.....Sun Dogs has been thrown onto the ash heap!
  14. I don't think that Karl Goehring (Chair of the Nickname Committee and all-world goaltender) will allow anything stupid, insulting or embarrassing to reach the serious consideration stage. Whatever list they send to Kelley will have some decent choices on it.
  15. I never saw this coming. I don't know how long it will last, but it's nice to see the Twins competitive again.
  16. But according to some people, Kelley and company are doing a great job because they are telling people "no" more.
  17. Some of the "fans" quoted in the Heraldo cover story on Thursday need to hear that as well. Because they are confusing a nickname with an institution that many of us here have strong positive feelings about.
  18. Umm, I am dedicated to the Vikings, not to any one player. As great as AP is, he is not bigger than the team. No one is. Nice try though.
  19. Yes and there are too many people that jump on and off and can't make their minds up.
  20. True fans stick with their teams no matter what. Any fans of the Purple who want off the bandwagon are strongly encouraged to get off and stay off.
  21. Bottom line: I don't like Kelley's leadership style. He does everything he can to keep his fingernails squeaky clean no matter how sticky the issue, he runs and hides behind his staff and lets them do the dirty work and then he'll come out of hiding and proclaim to the entire world "Yep, the buck stops here!", when in fact it never even slowed down there. EERC needed intervention, it was having problems that weren't being solved. Aerospace is one of the most successful programs on campus, why does it need to be "in the crosshairs" at all? They more than pull their own weight on campus. Kelley wants to put a fair-haired boy into place that he can remote control from his office. Any "waste of taxpayer money" is a result of all these new VP positions that Kelley seems to believe are absolutely necessary. All he wants them for is to make it easier for him to micromanage everyone. You will never get the best out of someone if you are breathing over their shoulder all the time. And please don't make this political because when I come to work on campus, I don't see "liberal" or "conservative" or anything else. I see a dedicated group of faculty and staff doing what they can to help students reach their goals and get off to a good start in life. We are not "wasteful", "entitled", or "spoiled". Faculty work as hard (if not harder) than all the self-professed working class heroes on this forum and in the hinterlands of the Midwest. Same goes for the staff. And one last thing, what do you have against Reader's Digest? End rant.
  22. Not an option, I don't care how many people are quoted in the Heraldo saying otherwise. This issue will not go away until we get a new nickname.
  23. Lack of leadership at the top from Kelley and his minions to Faison at the Athletic Department. Trying to sneak controversial decisions by everyone so that people cannot express their objections and/or concerns about said decisions. That about sums it up. Some people were critical of Ken Baker, but that was the last UND President I really liked. I wish we could go back to that kind of leadership.
  24. I think just using "Stars" instead of "North Stars", with a unique logo, would work. Although I think someone on here would find something in Webster's Dictionary that disqualifies that too. Some people here need to get over this idea that anything that anybody uses at any level of sports is off-limits. There really aren't that many unique names that aren't being used by someone. Whatever is picked, a unique logo can be designed to help distinguish ourselves. That is the best we can do in our current situation.
