fightingsioux4life replied to fightingsioux4life's topic in Community
No profiling in your post, just stating the obvious. There just aren't very many non-whites that live in Grand Forks permanently.- 49 replies

Why do Bison fans talk about "butt hurt" so much? Just a question.....
-
This is where I am as well. If it happens, great. If it doesn't, the sky isn't going to cave in. The future looks bright and that is what I am focused on.
-
I will believe this when I see it. When I was going to school (1993-2000), attendance dropped when the temperatures did. I don't know how that will be different the second time around.
-
Don't forget the Islanders from 1980-83 (4 Cups in 4 years) and the Oilers from 1984-90 (5 Cups in 7 years). Even the Red Wings of the 1990's and 2000's couldn't match that level of sustained excellence.
-
Not an apples to apples comparison. The Red Wings are not the same team they were back in the 1990's and 2000's. Most of their stars have retired or have gotten older. I think 2008 was their last Cup for a long time. From 2009 onwards they haven't been the same dominant force they were for so long. If you give Mike Babcock the Pens roster, they go to the Cup finals every other year at the very least because he gets the most out of what he has and Bylsma wasn't doing that anymore.

If D-Day had failed, the Germans could have put everything into the Eastern Front against Stalin. That might have been enough to overrun the Soviet Union. With no eastern front, the Nazi's could then focus on starving Britain into submission. Once Europe and Asia are under the control of the Axis Powers, guess who they will come after next?

I know the point you are making and it is well made. But the Kings, Blackhawks and Bruins have been far more steady and consistent in the playoffs over the past five years (where the level of play is much higher) than Pittsburgh has over the past couple of years. In the big leagues of the NHL, if you are a head coach and you underachieve with world-class talent on the roster, you will likely get the pink slip. The year the Pens won the Cup, Bylsma was hired mid-season with the team 9th in the Eastern Conference. They finished 4th in the conference and went on to win their first Cup in a very long time. So Bylsma has now been on both sides of that coin. And I am sure he will get snatched up by another team very soon.
-
With the talent they have on that team and with how that team has underachieved in recent years, I am not surprised and I think it needed to be done to shake things up. Since they won the Cup in 2009, they haven't been clicking on all cylinders very often. And that includes the times that Sidney Crosby was healthy and in the line-up. This is their window of opportunity to win championships and that window won't be open forever. Once their stars get too old, it will be rebuilding and retooling time.

June 6th, 1944. The most important day in human history. Had Operation Overlord went differently, our lives would be much different and I don't think we would be speaking English right now. Thanks for posting this!

Yeah, there is a lot of mindless legal-speak in the announcements. But that is still more than what we are getting from the Kelley regime. I guess the biggest problem I have with this is the general attitude of "It's none of the public's business why this happened" that has been adopted by the suits in Twamley Hall. A simple "We cannot comment on specifics because of an ongoing investigation" would be better than "no comment" x 1000.

It's tough to measure the square footage of a building from the outside or from faded memories of what was once there. This should help Columbia Mall out big-time.

Whenever a high-level person (Vice-President, Dean, Coach) is fired, forced to resign, resigns to take another job or retires, there usually is some sort of statement from UND about it. The EERC Director is a big-time player on campus; you simply cannot do something like this and not have it cause ripples across campus and across the community at-large. Which is why saying "no comment" over and over again is a bad idea; people start making up their own stories on what happened or didn't happen. If there are legal reasons for it, then we'll just have to wait until there is some sort of legal action. Which I think is coming. My point is that when you are the head of a public institution like UND, you need to play the PR game better than this. Acting like it's nobody else's business is not acceptable.
-
I hope you are right; otherwise, they will have one heck of a lawsuit on their hands.
-
http://www.grandfork...ains-mum-reason Someone should tell this administration that UND is not a private business and cannot keep using "no comment" as the answer to every media question about this. This is a publicly-funded and governed institution of higher education and I think the public has a right to know why this is being done.

As Bad As Not Winning the World Juniors?
fightingsioux4life replied to werewolfoflondon's topic in Non-collegiate sports
Yeah, according to some people on this forum, the Rangers will be fortunate to win a game. I believe this series will be closer than the aforementioned "some people" think. Look for it to go at least to a Game 6 (maybe even 7). -
At least the NHL isn't rigged.

Sioux Jersey Fouls (or any other jersey, for that matter)
fightingsioux4life replied to MafiaMan's topic in Men's Hockey
In the larger scheme of things, Bieber is not all that important. Turning America's youth against him would be much more effective than deporting him. He could still export his "music" from Canada. -

Personally, I think stopping Justin Bieber is much more important, but to each their own. -

The man has a teenage daughter, let's cut him a break just for that! -

As a good leftie, I support the 1st Amendment for EVERYONE, unless someone is committing libel and/or slander against somebody. Of course, Freedom of Speech doesn't include Freedom from criticism of said speech.
