University of North Dakota Hockey 2014-15 season
fightingsioux4life replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
I said IF, I didn't say it was imminent. And don't be naive; REA would love to get rid of the student section and sell those seats to the highest bidder. One thing I have learned in my 40 years on this planet is to never say never to anything, no matter how "asinine" it sounds. How many of us actually thought the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo would be retired in our lifetimes? I certainly didn't, but here we are planning on selecting a new name and logo. Vigilance saves a lot of headaches down the road. You should try it sometime. -
University of North Dakota Hockey 2014-15 season

If REA ever abolishes the student section entirely, I will be finished going to games there. It would turn into a cheesy minor league atmosphere without the students, but that is what the suits want and that is what they have been trying to establish since the place opened in 2001. I'll just watch the games at home and they can give my seats to Amazon.com or whomever else wants to buy them up for corporate schmoozing purposes. Hopefully, this never happens. -
You mean the guy that should have gotten the job in the first place? I'm on board with that.

One of my biggest problems with the Kelley regime is that he treats athletics like a "necessary evil".....with the emphasis on the "evil". Kupchella did this as well. The last UND President that was a genuine supporter of the athletic department was Kendall Baker. The real test of Kelley's commitment to the FB program will be if (and I believe, when) Bubba takes this program back to national prominence and he starts getting looks from lower-level FBS schools. Will the Kelley regime support Faison in ponying up the cash to keep him? Or will we just "let him go" like we did Lennon back in 2007? Time will tell on this.

Pathetic is more like it.

Well said. Those are my thoughts as well.

NORTH DAKOTA vs. Manitoba - Sunday GAMEDAY

This group has the potential to shut down any team on any night. Add the offense they will contribute and this could be one of our best groups of D-men ever. -
Extremely Hypothetical: 7-5 = playoffs?
fightingsioux4life replied to geaux_sioux's topic in Football
I said it before the season started: 6-6 probably gives Bubba some major consideration for Big Sky Coach of the Year. And I do think it is possible. -
I pointed this out last night, but was told by a certain "fan" to "shut up" and "knock it off" because FU has won "29 games in a row". I agree with you 100%; why are they on this forum if they have "moved on"?

UND at NDSU 2015 pregame thread (no smack)
fightingsioux4life replied to geaux_sioux's topic in Football
Watch out, westsidesioux might tell you to "shut up". -
I think Mollberg is getting better, game by game, day by day. It will be interesting to track his progress throughout the rest of 2014. Hopefully, he'll use this season as a springboard for 2015.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I liked Bowenkamp too. He took us to the 2003 national title game and was driving us down the field to tie it up on our last possession, but was picked off on the 10 yard line or so. Everytime I watch that highlight, I see one of our guys in the end zone wide open and I get frustrated all over again! If only Bowenkamp had seen him...... I look forward to the day when we are talking about games like that again.
-
Sorry, but Manke doesn't reach the level of "great". Neither does Bowenkamp. Both of those guys were "good" to "very good", but not "great".
-
I think our last "great" QB was Danny Freund. Before that, it was Kelby Klosterman.

Yes, serious. Why else do Bison fans come on this forum and make asinine comments about what Bubba wears at practice? Why else do they run around and act like they will win every game for the next 10 years? It's called overconfidence and it's the greatest enemy of sustained success. I have seen it with our hockey fans and it always comes back to bite you in the butt. Why they should even care about what we do or don't do in Grand Forks with all their success is the question I keep asking myself. It's either a serious insecurity complex they have about UND or overconfidence/arrogance or a little of both. And if I am guilty of getting excited about a program that, coming into this year, was on the edge of an abyss, and is now showing real signs of life, then I will accept that verdict with pride. And if I am also guilty of not bowing down to the greatness of Bison Nation and kissing their royal feet, then I also accept that verdict with pride. It is high time we start talking up our program again, because what you think of yourself will have a significant impact on what you eventually become (or don't become). Enough with the genuflecting to other programs and teams. We are UND and we are on the road back to competitiveness. And payback on certain teams in (and out of) our conference will be sweet. And I don't apologize for that one bit.

First of all, don't ever tell me to shut up. This is a discussion forum and I'll say whatever is on my mind. If you don't like it, you know where the door is. Second of all, if Bison fans are going to talk trash about us on the Internet (when we aren't even playing each other), then I will say what I want about it, wherever I want about it. This whole idea that because "they have won 29 in a row" means we have to "just shut up" is part of the problem with this program that Bubba is trying to clean up. We have developed an inferiority complex (especially "fans" like you) and we will need to shed that if we ever hope to win at the FCS level. Thirdly, the rivalry is not dead and it never will be dead; being in different conferences isn't going to change that. Why they would even care about what happens in our games is proof of that. Why they even bother coming on the forum of a team they claim not to care about anymore is further proof. And if they are going to throw dog crap at us, I will throw it right back at them. That is what a rivalry is all about. If you want to just lay down and take it, that is your choice. Just don't expect me to do the same. End rant. GO SIOUX!!!
-
Uh oh, I touched a Bison nerve! I am not into moral victories at all (unlike Muss and his "toe to toe" crap), but anyone that thinks this program is not headed in the right direction is kidding themselves. And if Bison fans weren't worried about it, they wouldn't comment on what happens in our games like they are doing. I thought they didn't care about us anymore?
-
That is an arrogant and spoiled rotten fan base beginning to realize that their free reign over the State of North Dakota and the Upper Midwest is over. Their dismissive attitude towards Bubba's hiring in December masked the fear they felt at one of the architect's of UND's successful teams of the recent past coming back to rebuild their long-time hated rival. What goes around, comes around. Can you hear the footsteps?

Ah, the Denny Green method of building a team. I still have a lot of enmity for the man. They'll need to sign two veterans on the cheap because all that will be back next season is Bridgewater.

Summit League could take over NCHC to survive?
fightingsioux4life replied to SiouxVolley's topic in NCAA News
This will make the Slummit even more of a joke than it already is. Oh, wait for it....#ButtRPI. -
I think he is done at the end of the season. And I think the Vikings better draft another QB in 2015 to build some depth at the position because I don't think Cassel will be back either.
-
Can we cut Ponder right after the game? Seriously, I don't want to see him in a Vikings uniform ever again! Thank god Bridgewater isn't seriously injured. And I am sure the national media will talk about how "great" the Packer defense is, when it's all because of Ponder's ineptitude. The FU defense could probably stop Ponder, that is how bad he is. Cut Ponder on Friday, sign another QB off the street on Saturday and get Bridgewater back on the field at TCF Bank Stadium on October 12th vs. the surprisingly solid Detroit Lions. Sounds like a plan to me!
-
I would rather lose a game tonight than risk Bridgewater's future. This is likely Ponder's last hurrah at QB, not counting garbage time play.
