  1. But nobody here is even causally suggesting that anyone "has to" give money to anything; I don't know where people are getting that notion. Milford was suggesting that it is somehow inappropriate to even speculate about getting an alumni donation to fund an on-campus FB stadium and that is pure nonsense. This is a discussion forum and that is what we do here. If he doesn't like it, he can just leave. It is just that simple. Sometimes, wealthy alums don't even know about what the urgent needs of a campus are. That is why we have an Alumni Association to to keep everyone connected and informed. If we don't do that, we might as well fold up our tents and go home.
  2. Enough whining about "other people's money". Guess what Milford, almost everything we do here is funded with "other people's money". Scholarships, season tickets, alumni donations, etc. If you don't like that, you don't have to give. The rest of us will continue promoting the present and future of UND and try to make it an even better place for our children and grandchildren.
  3. I was at the quarterfinal game vs. Pittsburg State in 2001 and that was over Thanksgiving weekend and the attendance wasn't all that bad. Just get 6 to 7,000 people in there for a game that matters and it will be loud.
  4. A breath of fresh air.
  5. Let's remember that NDSU plays in a city-owned, indoor facility that is almost a quarter of a century old. So they don't exactly control their own digs either.
  6. Well, based on the passions I have seen expressed on this forum, I would have to disagree with you. And all this talk of whatever name is chosen being replaced within a couple of years is highly unlikely. The reason for the low voter turnout is how horribly mismanaged the process has been from start to finish.
  7. Then we tell Midco they won't have our content anymore and we go in-house with everything and sell our product to whomever we want. We could negotiate deals with Fox College Sports and whomever else was interested. After they are integrated into Fargo, what else will they dictate to us? If we go in-house, Midco is more than welcome to purchase broadcast rights from us.....if they think it is worth it. Controlling our own product, which a lot of people work hard to make possible, will be more profitable in the long-run. It takes money to buy whiskey and this is no exception. Accepting $200,000/year to give up critical exposure of our product to our large and rabid fan base is penny-wise and pound-foolish. We can't just worry about balancing the budget, we have to also look at the untapped potential our programs have in the area of television coverage and access for our fan base. We are Division I in all sports and it is time we act like it. Besides, this would be a sure-fire way to get rid of Dan Hammer on hockey coverage, which 95% of the people on here seem to want.
  8. Or....the Mets didn't have a good enough bullpen. Bullpens are just as important as the starting rotation, which is something the Braves found out during all their postseason failures.
  9. I have never claimed to be an expert at anything. I will freely admit I am not an expert on baseball. And I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. However, the Royals were basically within an eyelash of winning the World Series last year and brought back basically their entire team this year. So it shouldn't surprise anyone that they won it all this year. The Mets swept a young, inexperienced Cubs team in the NLCS and looked unbeatable. But the Royals were simply too deep, too talented and too motivated after losing in 7 to the Giants last year. Is that what you were looking for?
  10. And you have revealed one of the forces that motivates the "Fighting Sioux Forever", "UND/North Dakota" and "Nodaks" crowds (with tremendous overlap among all three groups).
  11. But they are in the same media market, so they might as well be in the same town. And I believe some Climax-Fisher people were whining about GFC using Knights back when that issue was being sorted out. And I am so glad when GFC just ignored them and did what was right for the school and it's boosters. That is what I want UND stakeholders to do. It's the best example I can come up with; if anyone else has something better, please do share it.
  12. Honestly, I am sick and tired of outsiders telling us what they approve or disapprove of. Screw that. This is about what is good for UND, now and in the future. Keep it up buddy, you are actually making a good case for Roughriders with your constant harping on "GFRR had it first, so we can't use it". If this is the only strike against Roughriders, that makes it look really good compared to the strikes against the other two finalists (Nodaks and Fighting Hawks). The DS ad was good, but your unintentional advertising is even bettter! Keep it up!!!
  13. Hey, don't cloud all this speculation with facts!
  14. Nobody else in the NCAA has Roughriders. Unless we are planning on scheduling GFRR in something, I don't think it matters if both schools use it at the same time. Climax-Fisher didn't implode because G.F. Central decided to use Knights in the mid 1990's and neither will GFRR.
  15. I didn't like how Fox Sports was cheerleading for the Mets.
  16. Screw the NL and screw their obsession with the past. Mets were O-VER-RAT-ED and the Royals proved it.
  17. Hey, isn't that MY job on here?
  18. NFL PATs have become much tougher since they moved them back. But they still are pretty close to automatic at the college level.
  19. What Hakstol is or isn't doing is not relevant to this program anyway. And it's a long season.
  20. It's been going on for years. Some people think "America the Beautiful" is easier to sing and sounds better. I honestly don't think anything is broken, so why fix it? It is highly unlikely to ever happen anyway.
  21. And I forgot to add, they were going to eliminate the majority vote requirement in the 2nd round and allow the winner to be selected with a plurality (33%+1) of the vote. Why they ever thought that was a good idea, I'll never know. But it also fits into my theory that it would help Fighting Hawks win without having to beat out Roughriders or Nodaks one-on-one, which I have some doubts it could do.
  22. I think the 2002-03 team started out with a pretty soft schedule. And they made the NCAA tournament after a one season absence.
  23. Careful, you'll be branded a conspiracy theorist by jdub27.
  24. I never said anything about the 116 vote margin being "made up". I said it provides a convenient justification to allow three votes to advance instead of two. It is simply INEXCUSABLE to change the voting criteria after the fact. I don't care what Kelley's "point of view" is on this; you simply don't do that. I have zero sympathy for the President because when you change the rules in the middle of the game, you are just asking for speculation on why you did what you did. It adds to the distrust our fans and stakeholders have for this entire process since it started. And, for the record, I am not a conspiracy theorist. I am not a 9/11 "truther", I don't think the moon landing was staged in the desert and I don't think FDR knew about Pearl Harbor before it happened. I do think the Warren Report on JFK's assassination is full of holes, but I am far from the only person in the world that believes that. But when something smells fishy, it probably is rotten fish that someone forgot to put in the fridge or freezer. You are WAY too trusting of "The Authorities" in almost every situation. And Kelley has earned nothing less than the total mistrust of the UND family with how this whole nickname selection process has been (mis)managed. If it looks like a duck and smells like a duck, then it probably IS a duck. Not a fistful of roses.
