Biggest drawback for each remaining name (final 15)
fightingsioux4life replied to jimdahl's topic in UND Nickname
But according to some people here, that would be "a small price to pay". -
NHL expanding to Seattle in 2014?
fightingsioux4life replied to MafiaMan's topic in Non-collegiate sports
Bring on Seattle or Hamilton, Ontario. -
And you can bet if it was the Anaheim Sucks instead of the Blackhawks, it would be much slower and more sleep-inducing. This series is living up to what I thought it would.

President Kelley Announces Retirement.

I don't recall Baker or Kupchella doing this as much as President Foxhole. I didn't always agree with Baker or Kupchella, but for the most part they owned their decisions and defended them. -

I like to call him President Foxhole. Everytime there is a controversial issue or conflict, he runs and hides in his foxhole and lets his handmaidens in Twamley do the dirty work for him. This made my day. -
I believe that Goon does indeed have press credentials.

I would not have ripped Hakstol; I would have given him credit for trying something to change the momentum. I was watching at the Ground Round and I wasn't the only one that was thinking it. I remember one game vs. Anchorage in 1996 when Blais pulled Toby Kvalevog in favor of Aaron Vickar and we came back and won. I also remember the 2006 Final Five semifinals when Lucia pulled Briggs for Frazee when they were down big to St. Cloud and the Gophers came back to tie it and send it to OT. Although they lost in overtime, at least it gave them a chance. So it has worked before. -

Berry will likely get a "honeymoon" period, like most coaches do. I will say that Hakstol did not get his "honeymoon" period, as he was following up a legend and that is always hard to do. That I definitely don't blame him for. I think Hakstol is a good fit for the NHL and I think he has a good chance to be successful, even though he coaches a team I can't stand (Flyers). -

It isn't just one year; when it happens year after year after year, that is when people will start asking questions. And a 1-7 Frozen Four record over a period of 11 years, it qualifies as a trend. And trends cannot be 100% explained away by "lucky bounces", "puck luck", "one and done", "hot goalie", ect. And yes, I might have put Johnson in, just to change the dynamic of the game. I have seen it work in past games and it might have worked here. But I guess we'll never know. -

And some people's hero worship of Hakstol makes any sort of criticism of Hakstol blasphemous and inappropriate. Case in point, bigskyvikes. I guess the program will tank now that Hakstol is gone and Brad Berry is in charge, right? Me thinks Brad Berry will do just fine at the helm of the Good Ship Fighting Sioux. -

I hope so. With AP, this is a potential playoff team. Without him, they'll finish 8-8 or 9-7 at best. -
This should be a fun Series to watch. Speed vs. Speed. Skill vs. Skill. Goalie (Crawford) vs. Goalie (Bishop). I will go with Blackhawks in 6 because of their leadership and experience. But don't count the Lightning out; they have young talent and some experience to balance it out. They could very well pull the upset in 7 games.

I actually was hoping some of them would have taken the bait! And the REAL reason they dislike the Big Sky is that they shot them down not once, but twice before the Slummit took them in out of the cold.

Hawks win Game 7 5-3 Hawks win Series 4-3 Sucks, this is for you!

Sucks PP Goal 5-3 Hawks
-
Cripes, a delay of game penalty against the Hawks with the Sucks having the goalie pulled. 6 x 4 Penalty Kill coming up. At least the Hawks can take all the free shots at the empty net that they like from now on.
-
Hawks have to stop icing the puck every other shift.

<breathing easier again>

Crap. 4-2 Hawks. Corey "Prick" Perry with the goal. Come on boys, don't choke this away.
-
The Sucks represent everything that is not good about the NHL. They are a throwback to the pre-2004 lockout NHL and that is not a compliment. Every time they win a playoff series, it's bad for the game. The Hawks are a little over 9 minutes away from sending the Sucks to the golf course where they belong.
-
Lightning win Game 7 2-0 on the road. Now if the Sucks (I mean Ducks) can lose to the Blackhawks tomorrow night, I can watch the Stanley Cup Finals without any real dog in the fight.

Pretty soon, bus leagues will be a thing of the past. If they aren't already.

Grand Forks Central tried "Maroon and Grey" because nobody wanted to move on. That lasted all of two years. The Redskins Forever zealots promoted the idea of just being "Grand Forks Central" with that boring interlocking G and F as the official logo because "that says it all!". Only it didn't "say it all", it "said NOTHING AT all". So if it wasn't workable for a high school, why would it be workable for a regional, four-year, research-intensive university with both a national and international reach and with a lot more at stake with regard to merchandising and brand identification? The short answer is it wouldn't be workable. And it makes ZERO sense to pick "North Dakota" when this whole process is almost guarranteed to repeat itself in a couple of years. Contrary to what some people here think, there are several names that would serve us well: Roughriders, Aviators, Bombers, North Stars or Stars and probably a few others as well. Pick one of those, come up with a marketable logo and put this issue behind us. We will not ever be able to focus on becoming a top-notch mid-major Division I institution if we don't settle this issue once and for all.
