  1. I knew that was coming. The difference between Daddy's Little Boy in the Iron Range and Dayton is that Dayton doesn't run around acting like he hit a triple when he in fact was born on third base. Junior Mills runs around acting like a self-made man, when in fact he got his cushy VP job at Mills Fleet Farm because "daddy" gave it to him. Dayton knows that not everyone is as fortunate as him; Mills III doesn't even understand the concept.
  2. I know that. What I meant is that he acts like what the Senate thinks about any issue doesn't matter. He likes to think he is all that matters in Bismarck and that arrogance is what needs to go.
  3. I just had supper; please don't bring the spoiled-rotten little rich kid into this topic. I think they would have had problems competing with Home of Economy; it's like if Hornbacher's tried to get into Grand Forks when Hugo's is so entrenched.
  4. The sooner we get rid of his pompous, arrogant a$$, the better. Everything he does revolves around him being the de-facto "Prime Minister" of North Dakota. He doesn't care about what the governor thinks or the N.D. Senate as a whole. After what he tried to pull with the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo, the answer to this question is obvious. GET...RID...OF...HIM! End Rant. Go Sioux.
  5. Or what?
  6. #buttpractice
  7. The QB coach I believe. And he needs that as a starting rookie QB.
  8. Anything less than a sweep is unacceptable! (Copyright Goon 2014 All Rights Reserved)
  9. I think the worm is starting to turn in your favor. Stafford is staying healthy for once, the defense is suddenly solid as a rock and you won today on the road without two of your best athletes. You don't have much to worry about when it comes to the "Motor City Kitties".
  10. Jerry York typically doesn't lose a lot of guys early all at once. Sometimes one or two will leave early, but he's also had a lot of kids that have stuck around for 3-4 years. That probably explains their consistency of winning games and NCAA titles over the past 15 years or so.
  11. If four year players inherently suck, then how did Dean Blais do so well with primarily four year players (very few of his kids left early from the mid 1990's to the early 2000's. There is value in the idea of having a roster of kids that started out together and graduate together (the freshman class of 1996-97 won an NCAA title their first year and in their senior year of 1999-2000). That builds chemistry and togetherness. When you add some 1 to 2 year higher-end kids to that group, you have a pretty good collection of veterans and young guns. As for why schools "pass" on certain kids, that varies from case to case. Sometimes, kids feel more comfortable on a smaller campus vs. larger campus, sometimes one school has his chosen field of study and another doesn't, some kids like to be close to home while others want to be as far away from home as possible. Recruiting (like professional drafts) is an inexact science and just because one school "passes" on a kid doesn't mean that kid won't fit in someplace else or that he's not good enough for D-I hockey. And finally, I don't think Yale and Union were "lucky". Yale beat both UND and Minnesota in the regional. I watched some of Union's play last year and they are top to bottom a very good team. They hung 7 on the mighty Goofs in the title game. You don't do that with "luck".
  12. I think your Lions may be putting all the pieces together for a playoff run. And considering how much crap their fan base has had to put up with for so many years, I am happy for them.
  13. No, we should have beaten Bemidji both nights and Friday night was unacceptable (Copyright Goon 2014 All Rights Reserved). As MafiaMan said, the point is that it's very early in the season and a lot of things can happen between now and March. I just hope those are good things for us.
  14. The offense was screwed the moment it was announced that Adrian Pederson was being deactivated until his legal problems are resolved. There will be some big changes in the offseason for the offense. After the Lions drove down the field on their first possession, the defense played fairly solid: 17 points isn't all that bad of a total to give up. The Zimmer Effect on the D is apparent. It's easy to forget that the Lions have a top 5 defense this year (can't believe I used "Lions" and "top 5 defense" in the same breath) and when you don't have AP in the backfield and have to rely on a couple of rookies to run the ball, it's tough on a rookie QB to move the team down the field with any consistency. As for the O Line, that needs some serious reconstructive surgery in the offseason. If you can't protect and you can't run block, you will not score many points in this league. Bridgewater will be fine. He has shown more in three games than Ponder showed in three years. This is a good year for him to learn on the job since this team isn't going to the playoffs anyway.
  15. Cripes, I am so sick of those stupid commercials. At least this year they don't have the fat cheesehead running around screaming "Discount Double Check".
  16. So we need to keep him from the buffet table then?
  17. It sure isn't the top reason, but it can't hurt to have a first-class weight room, first-class locker rooms, etc. I remember Blais saying back in the early 2000's that he lost a recruit to St. Cloud (I think it might have been Matt Cullen) because they had the better weight room and he was thrilled at what the new REA had with regard to training resources for the players. And your comment on the Old REA vs. the New REA just bolsters the point that I (and others) have made about Hakstol having more resources to work with than previous head coaches and yet hasn't gotten over the hump. But I do agree with the concept of recruiting players that want to have success in college and who aren't focused entirely on where they are drafted and how much money they get with their first NHL contract. There is a grain of truth to that.
  18. What? You know full well that NDSU has NEVER, EVER lost a recruit they wanted to UND! And the FU trolls will tell you so! (sarcasm intentional)
  19. The 1996-97 Fighting Sioux team was picked to finish 5th in the 10-team WCHA. We all know how that season played out (and how many blizzards we had to endure to get to the games).
  20. It used to be a lot more, but the deer population isn't what it once was.
  21. The problem is, some people on this forum don't think it's EVER an appropriate topic. And after 10 years of working in one of the best arenas in the world and with some of the best young hockey players in the world, I think the "clock" has been ticking for some time now. And I don't think people on here are talking about just Friday night, but the whole body of work and what needs to change to get over that last hump.
  22. My feelings exactly. This is the most-often invoked excuse in Grand Forks for people not supporting the FB team. When Blais was first hired in 1994 to turn around the MH team and the first couple of years were .500 years, some people even used the hunting opener excuse for a half-full Old REA. It is time to bury this excuse and then bury the shovel along with it.
  23. No, but it does help in winning recruiting battles, which improves the talent level on the team, which makes winning games and championships more likely.
  24. Hey, isn't that a mug shot of one of the wanna-be FU vandals arrested Wednesday night?
