  2. Some Gopher fans were holding up a big sign at the 2013 Final Five that said "B1G Mistake"! One of the few times I ever agree with them on anything!
  3. Half the conference is a pretty good batting average. The B1G will get two at the most (probably just Minnesota).
  4. Because anytime someone criticizes Hakstol for not getting over the hump in the postseason, that person gets raked over the hot coals. So that person responds and then we have another online "discussion" on our hands.
  5. Sometimes good things happen to good people.
  6. The point of my sarcastic comment (man, I just love sarcasm too much! ) is that NCAA titles are never easy to win. In the early 1980's, you had Wisconsin, Minnesota, Northern Michigan, ect. to deal with. We beat Michigan State in 1987 for the title and they were coming off of a title of their own in 1986. Then during the Blais era, you had the Boston's (BU and BC), Michigan, Maine, New Hampshire and so on. The bottom line is that if you want to be the best, you have to beat the best; upsets or not. And we just don't do that as much as we used to in March and April.
  7. I was being sarcastic. Did you not see the ? I guess not.
  8. Correction: Gino got three (1980, 1982, 1987) and Blais got two (1997, 2000). You know, back when all the other teams sucked and it was so much easier to win a "natty".
  9. That is what we should do if "nattys" don't mean as much as they used to or are just too hard to win.
  10. I think Miami, FL is an easier place to recruit than Laramie, WY. Jimmy Johnson talked about this in his book "Turning The Thing Around" (a very good read, btw). Schnellenberger and Johnson established what was known as "The State of Miami"; an area of south Florida that was neck-deep in High School FB talent. Wyoming doesn't have that kind of access to top-notch FBS talent. And their weather is the polar opposite of south Florida. The U was in the perfect place to engineer a turn around like that. If Bohl can establish a consistent winning program (6-5, 7-4 seasons with trips to bowl games), that would boost his stock big-time. I just think he has a long, hard climb ahead of him.
  11. I honestly don't care about either one; I just don't know if Bohl taking that job was a wise choice. I guess we'll see.
  12. Okay, how about this for a comparison. Joe Glenn wins two D-II titles at Northern Colorado and one FCS title at Montana. Then he gets the Wyoming head coach job. He couldn't work his magic there (no big surprise) and he was fired. And he hasn't gotten so much as a sniff at FBS ball since. That is the risk Bohl is taking; I hope it works out for him.
  13. And Bubba and Schmidt are doing it with leftovers from the Mussman regime, along with a few true freshman thrown in. Imagine what we'll look like with kids recruited by this staff!
  14. Which school offers a better chance at being successful? Central Michigan or Wyoming? The answer is pretty obvious.
  15. And what if he gets fired like Joe Glenn did? Is anyone else at the FBS level going to give him a chance? His career is on the line with the Cowboys and I don't like his chances. I would have stuck with FU until a better job (Iowa, Iowa State) opened up and this time of year, they often start opening up. Brian Kelly made some good choices as he moved up the FBS coaching ladder and now he's coaching at Notre Dame (I can't stand the Fighting Irish, but coaching there is a big deal).
  16. The "That's Debatable/Always Were!" chant for power play/penalty kill situations.
  17. But they'll respond with "But the sightlines are the best in the whole wide world" Back in the 1990's, I got so sick and tired of Sid Hartman trying to tell everybody that The John was better than most NHL arenas. Talk about hyperbole! I am willing to bet that U of M's old arena had a much better atmosphere than The John. The new REA has some atmosphere issues, don't get me wrong, but The John has always been a sterile, overrated corporate playpen.
  18. Okay, fair enough. I just feel the need sometimes to remind people of just how important that 1994 hire was and how things would be much different around here if we hadn't hired the man we did.
  19. I have never called for Blais to be lured back (I think he's going to retire once his current Omaha contract is up), but it is amazing to me how little respect the man gets after what he did when he took over what was a sinking ship in 1994. We were close to becoming another Michigan Tech or Alaska-Anchorage. The wrong hire back in 1994 would have been catastrophic for our program. Blais pulled us out of the toilet and led us to our sixth national title in his third season behind the bench, three years after finishing with 11 wins. I was there for Gino's final season and it was about as ugly as the FB team in 2013. It was one of the best coaching jobs I have ever seen at any level in any sport. And it's an undeniable fact that when you take over for a legend (which is what Hakstol did), you will inevitably face comparisons. I don't think it's fair, but it almost always happens. If you don't like the Hak haters, that is fine. But throwing Blais under the bus doesn't make any sense.
  20. The cheap shots at Blais are getting old. He'll be on the other bench this weekend, but one of the greatest college hockey coaches of the modern era deserves more respect than that.
  21. Boise St. demolishing Wyoming 56-7 on the road and it's still the 3rd quarter! I wonder if Craig "Mr. Clean" Bohl is having any second thoughts about leaving FU?
  22. Tax cuts for Wal-Mart and the Oil Companies, of course. I agree with you 1000%. Set up an education endowment fund and use the interest earned from that fund (not the principal, the interest) to help fund projects like this (and yes, NDSU should get a piece of the action as well). We could also fund education and research on our two main campuses. But I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that to happen; this Cracker Jack government we have in Bismarck won't even fund enough highway patrol officers to handle all the insane traffic in the Oil Patch.
  23. The only way Bubba should leave is because he gets a job offer from an FBS school. The only way any of his assistants should leave is because they get a head coaching job offer (D-II or FCS). If any of them leave because the athletic department won't pay to keep them around, it will signal a lack of commitment to the FB program and to the Division I move itself. I for one hope that the team wins enough in the coming years to make this scenario possible.
  24. That's almost a Yogi Berra-ism!
