  1. Careful, or jdub27 will accuse you of "hyperbole". I don't have a personal stake in this at all. I just wanted to make an alternative argument to the ones being made on here.
  2. The people that have come out publicly in favor of development would benefit the most from such development. The Downtown Development Association and The Grand Forks Herald are two examples. And I don't think building condos would have saved Amazing Grains; they were done in by having that new organic food grocery store at the corner of 32nd Ave S and S 20th Street.
  3. Why does New York City need Central Park? The city could make mad money selling it off to developers and make money for years to come via property taxes, but they don't. It's a quality of life issue, which is just as important as growing the tax base. And please note, most (if not all) of the people actively pushing to develop Arbor Park are the same people that stand to directly benefit from having condos there. I don't hear too many people outside of those circles forcefully lobbying to build condos there. I think they are hoping for a small voter turnout, which would make it easier for them to win, which is probably why this is being voted on in June in a non-election year.
  4. Check out Marhula's letter in the Heraldo today, the development crowd is hinting at economic decline if we don't develop Arbor Park. If you are going to attack me for "hyperbole", then you better include the pro-development people as well.
  5. I don't always agree with C.T. Marhula, but he is spot-on here: http://www.grandforksherald.com/opinion/letters/4282651-letter-myths-advanced-development-advocates Here is one example of the misleading claims being made by the pro-development lobby: He closes the letter with this gem:
  6. Downtown is doing good right now. It will continue doing good with or without these condos. Green space, on the other hand, is finite and once it is gone, it is gone forever (unless we have another flood and/or fire, and we don't want that). People that saw downtown before the 1997 flood will remember it as a run-down slum with empty department stores and that God-awful City Center Mall. The development crowd is trying to sell the fiction that not developing Arbor Park will spell doom for downtown. That is reason alone to vote yes.
  7. I honestly don't believe that not developing Arbor Park will result in a depressed Downtown. I am convinced that the people who want the condos will push to develop every single open space there is downtown. Leave Arbor Park alone. Build your condos someplace else.
  8. I was just commenting in general. But thanks for the clarification.
  9. Too early to head to the lifeboats over one or two kids turning us down. Bubba will get some good athletes in here (already has). #keepyourchinup
  10. I know MVSU is an FCS team. My point was playing them is better than playing a Division II team.
  11. Hey, I have no problem with Crosby. I was just pointing out why some people don't like him.
  12. Great. That's the kiss of death in sports.
  13. LOL, thanks for catching that.
  14. The problem with Crosby is that his attitude and behavior distract from what he does on the ice. Wayne Gretzky was a phenomenal once-in-a-lifetime talent, but was considered a gentleman on and off the ice. That is why very few people (outside of the Bobby Orr groupies) dislike him. Crosby should just focus on playing the game the best he can and stop with the antics.
  15. Don't tell the Mayo Clinic Lynx that.
  16. The article in the Heraldo today said that NDSU is opening the 2017 season against MVSU. And the payout is $10,000 more than ours ($240,000 vs. $230,000). ANY FCS team is better than any D-II team or NAIA team. If it counts towards playoff eligibility, then it is worth it.
  17. If this was true, Denver would be going for a three-peat next year. I wouldn't start pushing the panic button just yet, we are recruiting good kids and they will help us win.
  18. I agree with you. I don't want to be a stepping stone for other programs on their way to the top. But some people on here will respond with #butparity. I wouldn't be too concerned about our recruiting. I like the kids we have coming in the next couple of years. We'll be fine.
  19. You missed the sarcasm in his comment. You and him are actually on the same side.
  20. I got it today.
  21. Yeah, we should have voluntarily declined our playoff invite!
  22. Didn't say there weren't. But why would an LA paper even care what is happening in North Dakota (good or bad) unless someone was feeding them information?
  23. I wonder if NDSU alums are responsible for this? Would not surprise me one bit.
  24. And that was an accurate description of our program at the time. We were "the king of the mountain". Denver really didn't have to go through us, we were in different regions and we didn't make the Frozen Four last year. But as defending champions, everyone wants a piece of your hide and Denver will have to run that gauntlet next season. You will get everyone's A game every night, every weekend. While having most of your top players back will make that easier, it will be a grind for them. Meanwhile, UND won't have that pressure, especially with the young guys we will count on for scoring next year. And finally, several years ago, Denver had a team that the Denver Post was anointing the NCAA title, saying "the stars are aligned". Well, something called RIT knocked those stars out of alignment. Awarding NCAA titles the June before the season starts is risky business.
