    Lee never seemed happy in college; perhaps he didn't like the academics. Finley was big and physical, but just didn't have the quickness to counter the speedy, skilled forwards that other teams had. Nothing against either of them as people, but they just had some major flaws as players.

    Lee didn't have a long, successful NHL career like Oshie and Toews have had. I recall him bouncing between the AHL and NHL quite often. As for Finley, his struggles helped change our recruiting philosophy for defensemen. We switched to more mobile defensemen who could move more easily and contribute on the offensive end. You saw how valuable that was last year.

    Joe "The Pylon" Finley and Brian "I can't hold the zone on the power play" Lee earned most of the criticism they got.

    That is what the UC-Davis D2 National Semifinal game was like in 2001. And even the GVSU National Quarterfinal game in 2004. We'll get it back there, it will take a little more time. We were so bad for so long that people have forgotten how to get excited at our home games. It is getting better and will continue getting better.

    Prevent defense is crap, whether it is high school, NFL or college. It is also crap in hockey, but that's another topic for another place. We better figure out this short-quick-pass weakness or we'll be leaving the Alerus Center on Saturday feeling pretty empty.

    Another thought.....what if this is a back-door, clandestine attempt to get us back into Division 2?

    Like I've said, they are looking at running it like high school. Have as many sports as possible and who cares if more than half of them don't have winning records. That is unacceptable. There had better be something else going on we don't know about or I will have a serious bone to pick with President Kennedy. And if there is a decision coming to not fund FCOA to balance the budget, I will be calling for heads (Kennedy's and Faison's).

    Who cares? As long as we take home the BSC title, that is all that really matters.

    Agree 100% I don't think President Kennedy will accept these recommendations in whole.

    We couldn't get FB into the MVFC, so that meant the Big Sky was the better option at the time.

    The committee must think that running our athletic department like a high school is a good thing. We cannot adequately fund 20 sports at the Division I level so that they can thrive and be successful and not merely exist. I hope President Kennedy takes a blended approach to this: Increase revenues AND cut sports. If we can get the number down to at least 16, that would make it much easier to raise the level of support for MBB, WBB and FB, all of which have tremendous upside.

    Let's also not shed any tears for them either. Whatever we dish out to them, they have earned and then some. Also, anything that puts a stop to all that "Bring on Bama" garbage is good, IMHO.
