  1. So the fact that former FCS schools like Georgia Southern, Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State are now in FBS has nothing to do with this? The only schools NDSU has to worry about right now are South Dakota State, James Madison and maybe Villanova. In Division I hockey, even the worst of the bottom-feeder teams can beat you if you are not sharp. A lot of FCS football schools are Division I for Men's Basketball purposes and don't put much into their FB programs. NDSU is an exception to that. And I wish UND would become another exception to that. The best way to check NDSU's power in FB is to build a perennial playoff program and offer recruits another option to consider. And that starts with hiring a strong UND President that recognizes that athletics are the "front porch" of any university. Until that happens, it will be more of the same. And that makes me want to throw up.
  2. I think Sather is going to take this program places it has never been.
  3. I want nothing to do with the Sid Hartman Hockey Conference (he's the one who agitated for it for years before it happened). Maybe you are okay with having Tuesday night games on the Almighty BTN, but I am not. The NCHC is the SEC of college hockey. The Little 7 is not even close.
  4. While I share your frustration with UND athletics at the moment (I have compared our athletic department to a high school more than once), I don't think anything is gained by us missing the playoffs. The only way we will turn this program around is by making the playoffs and winning games once we are there. And while Bubba is a bit too loyal to his assistants regardless of the results or lack thereof, I believe the real problem is the lack of resources our coaches and athletes have to work with, which make it very difficult to compete in Division I. Criticism is fine, I believe it is essential to being a loyal supporter of our favorite higher ed institution. But rooting for us to fail is just bad form.
  5. Real-life example or it never happened.
  6. Big off-season losses. We can relate to that, right?
  7. I heard that bees abandoned their hives in late September or early October. That seems a little early for them to do that. I think this might be a harsh winter.
  8. It's all about keeping more of the gate! Didn't you get the memo? (sarcasm) #pennywisepoundfoolish
  9. I second that.
  10. Sort of? It's high schoolish weak.
  11. You are missing the point entirely. I was taking shots at the hockey-only crowd who thinks helping other UND programs be successful will somehow "hurt" hockey. That was the point of the post.
  12. I think the more they are immersed in the system, the better they will get at it.
  13. So Penn State fans have embraced Division I hockey? According to some of the one-sport only zealots on this forum, that will "hurt" the Nittany Lion's historically successful FB program. Opps, it looks like Penn State FB is doing just fine and dandy. Two successful programs on one campus? I thought that was impossible! (extreme sarcasm)
  14. This has to be a win. I don't care if they have Patrick Roy in goal.
  15. Yeah, the weather is going to make it very difficult for that soon.
  16. That wouldn't take much, would it?
  17. That is the last thing we need, a President who thinks downsizing and/or ignoring athletics is a good idea.
  18. Based on the "new economic reality", the Forum should be cutting days as well. They are not. The long-term end game is to dissolve the Herald and force the Fargo Forum on everyone in the Red River Valley. I will NEVER subscribe to that paper. The last thing I want is to have Jeff Kolpack's ugly mug in my face when I am trying to enjoy breakfast in the morning.
  19. The question is, can they make a habit out of it?
  20. Too small of a sample size to judge anything.
  21. We put up 4 last night, so I think your comment is a little premature.
  22. And God only knows how many years after that. Because around here, all that matters are "relationships" and "teaching life lessons".
  23. Missouri State?
  24. Well, this is turning out to be another bad day for UND athletics.
  25. But according to @jdub27, this is completely unacceptable behavior by us fans and needs to stop. Seriously though, I agree with you. The funding model worked in Division II, but it does not work at Division I. We should never have moved up without a solid financial plan to fund what is necessary to be competitive and successful. But we did move up, so our only choice is to be successful. Failure is not an option.
