  1. Every 16 team that has played in the play in game or plays in the First Four won their conference championship. Just the way it works. Most of the time the teams in the First Four are teams that were lower seeds in their conference tournament that ended up winning it. Last year the 16 seeds in the First Four were LIU Brroklyn, Radford, Texas Sourthern, and North Carolina Central. Those teams were 4th, 2nd, 2nd, and 6th respectively in their conference tournament. Winning your conference tournament guarantees you a game in the NCAA tournament, but doesn't guarantee you won't play in the play in games. 4 of the 6 teams that are 16 seeds have to play in the First Four. All are conference champions.
  2. The Bison are 18-15. They are pretty much a guaranteed 16 seed in the tournament. Would not be surprised to see them play in the First Four games in Dayton.
  3. Believe it or not, there have been many upsets by mid majors in the NCAA tournament. And, many of those mid majors weren't the #1 seed in their conference tournament. #16 seed UMBC that beat Virginia last year didn't win their conference last year. They were the #2 seed.
  4. I can understand B1G schools not including conference playoff tickets in the season ticket packages. Too many scenarios. It's not like the NCHC where you include the 2 (potentially 3) games in the season tickets and if the team is on the road for the first round, issue a refund. In the B1G, you have too many different scenarios the school would have to issue tickets for. Sorry, not a valid excuse. Not the first time the Gophers have had games the same weekend as the High School Tournament. Like I posted previously, two years ago they had home games the same weekend as the Tourney and they had 9302 and 9988 in attendance for both nights. Sorry, not a valid excuse. The reason no one was there is because the Gophers aren't as good as before and they have been in previous years. Leaving the WCHA hurt, but at least they were still winning B1G titles and making the playoffs and advancing to the Frozen Four. Now they are losing more games and are on the verge of missing the playoffs for a second straight year. What does it all come down to? Gopher hockey fans are fair weather fans. Obviously winning games helps attendance. But the Gopher fans have shown that they only care for their team when they are good. UND might be an anomaly in regards to attendance, but there were over 10,000 fans watching a 5th place team play where there was a Deirks Bently concert across town and their was a blizzard outside.
  5. The last time that the Gophers had a home series the same weekend as the State High School Hockey Tournament was 2017. Those games against Michigan St had attendances of 9302 and 9988. Can't really blame the high school tournament. Reason is the team isn't as good and the fans just don't care.
  6. Just look at what the two tier system did to Minnesota. Only good things can come from it.
  7. Even worse, the Womens Frozen Faceoff was a bigger draw. Not only did the 2 games the Gopher women played in have a higher attendance (2,611 and 2,452) but the Ohio St v Wisonsin game had 2,658 in attendance. Sure the Gophers are getting Mr. Hockey from this year and some of the best high school players in the state from Edina, EP, Blaine, etc. But man, that attendance can't help recruiting. It was convenient to blame attendance for B1G playoff games on having to play in Detroit. But the attendance issues have to be causing issues among B1G schools, not only in just recruiting.
  8. I disagree. If we win 2 games in Denver (who is sitting at 7) this weekend, that well improve our ranking considerably. We are .0078 points behind #14 Harvard. Lots can happen next week to the teams jut ahead of us. There is a very good chance that 2 sins in Denver plus 1 more win in St Paul gets us in.
  9. The results are in......Gopher hockey fans don’t exist!!
  10. I don't know about anyone else, but the new "Ice Time" feature Schloss now does is second to none. I don't think there is a beat writer anywhere in the country that provides as much information relating to the team they are covering. I know it's been said before, but Schloss is second to none when it comes to covering UND hockey. Just check out today's "Ice Time" feature for today! https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/hockey/4581949-ice-time-omaha-no-19-north-dakota
  11. And two new grain bins. UND needs to step it up!!
  12. The more B1G schools (and PAC12 down the road) that have a D1 college hockey program, the better.
  13. That's not what conferences look at in regards to conference invites.
  14. Agreed. I think if you are a fan of either school and you want to go to this game, you are going to get tickets. That being said, I think the demand is going to be high due to fans missing out on the Vegas game. I could see 12,000+ UND fans at this game.
  15. I'm guessing they are working out stuff like what percentage of seats Penn St. gets. I have this hunch Penn St. likely wants more than UND is giving them.
  16. As well as the 2019 Minnesota State High School "All Hockey Hair Team" nominations!!
  17. Need to win at least 5 games in the next 3 weeks to have a legitimate shot.
  18. Similar to another President, it seems that no matter what good Kennedy does, if people dislike him all that doesn't matter. I am not saying Kennedy is perfect by any means. He has his faults. We all do. But Kennedy has likely done more good for the long term stability of UND in the 2+ years he has been here than Kelley did in his Tenure. When Kennedy's time at UND is done, people will find reasons to dislike and criticize the next President.
  19. Attractive to who? And for what reason? To attract future schools? The Summit League is what it is. A mid major who is a 1 bid league for most NCAA tournaments (at least the big ones). The focus for conferences like the Summit is stability. Adding a school smack dab in the footprint of the conference that in all likelyhood is not going to leave is exactly what the Summit needs.
  20. Kennedy wanted to renegotiate the contract to look at the amount of revenue UND gets. (The contract that is supposed to get negotiated every year....but hasn't been until Kennedy did). Also wanted the new Fighting Hawks logo at midcourt of the to be newly painted Betty floor upon the request of every coach whose teams played there and KEM didn't even think twice and said no. then she went to the Herald and complained about Kennedy. I would call that a hissy fit. She came of as basically saying "How dare this man even question anything this Foundation and the REA is doing. Doesn't he know who I am and who my father was?" The very definiting on entitlement. And now she wants Kennedy fired.....or else!!! So sick of her.
  21. REA gets Football revenue. And recently has no say in how they want their official athletic logo displayed in the facilities where UND is their primary tenant. Crappy deal. And KEM throws a hissy fit and starts making threats when someone dares question to maybe renegotiate the deal or suggest the Hawks logo be displayed at center court.
  22. https://www.grandforksherald.com/news/education/4443805-kris-engelstad-mcgarry-describes-hostile-relationship-und-administration In the article that started this all, KEM says the last president the family shared a strong relationship with was Thomas Clifford. So basically she admits to saying her relationships with Presidents Baker, Kupchella, Kelley, and Shafer, (along with Kennedy) weren't that great either. So who is to say that she will get along with the next President? Maybe UND should just let KEM hand pick the next President that is willing to kiss her ass and let her do what she wants without any pushback!!
  23. Boy do I wish we had a mega donor more like Steve Scheel instead of Kris Engelstad McGarry.
  24. Well, I might have been a little extreme in a response I suggest they use. Are they still not required under the usage agreement to give UND money after they cover all their costs? KEM can say she won't donate anymore, but doesn't teh agreement force her to? Looking for some clarification oh wise one!!
