  1. This is certainly not the first type of slip and fall lawsuit that has ever occurred in this country and obviously won't be the last. The Alerus Center and the City may have offered him a settlement that the man and his lawyer thought wasn't enough. I am sure the Alerus will try again to reach a settlement before it goes to trial. Should the Alerus be liable for ensuring the safety of the people in the building" Sure. But how much they are financially responsible for the rehabilitation of someone that got injured is what is being debated. Most likely the result of this will be a settlement agreement that pays the man less than what he is asking for, but enough for him to drop the lawsuit.
  2. Or do what the Phoenix Suns did and make the scoreboard screens look like cell phones!!!
  3. Apparently what is most needed at the Alerus is “Caution wet floor” signs!!! https://www.inforum.com/news/crime-and-courts/1340110-Man-files-lawsuit-after-he-slipped-fell-at-UND-football-game
  4. I get the strategy now. Release a logo the first time out that will have people up in arms about how bad it is. That way 2-4 years after it is released, UND will announce they are designing a new logo. So instead of comparing the logo to the old Sioux logo, it will be compared to the original Fighting Hawks logo. So people will be much more receptive to the new and improved Fighting Hawks logo. It all makes sense!!
  5. Top 5 winningest coaches in NCAA D1 history all played college basketball. Weren't really All Americans: Mike Krzyzewski - 6.2 PPG, 3 years Jim Boeheim - 9.8 PPG, 3 years Bobby Knight - .7 PPG, 1 year Dean Smith - 1.6 PPG, 3 years Jim Calhoun - .6 PPG, 3 years So being a good athlete has nothing to do with how good of coach you are. Let me be clear, in no way whatsoever am I comparing Shanks to 5 of the greatest coaches of all time. Just saying that Shanks playing ability has no bearing on his coaching ability.
  6. https://www.jobsinsports.com/Content/Jobs/index.cfm?jobId=453378443&utm_campaign=google_jobs_apply&utm_source=google_jobs_apply&utm_medium=organic Pretty minimal for requirements. Bachelor Degree and 8 years of coaching experience.
  7. The bar has been set pretty low. Why not take a shot with Boschee?!! I like the buzz that he would create. And it's not like he is a name. He has done well as a head coach as well!
  8. This is the new norm in this country. Even if we had gotten tribal approval from Standing Rock and were able to keep the Sioux name, I can't imagine what the SJW outcry to retire the name now would be. There will be a time when FSU will get rid of the Seminoles and the Washington Redskins will be known as something else. That time is coming. As much as I wanted to keep the Sioux name, it is refreshing that UND does not have to deal with the issue anymore.
  9. Side note, but UND has basketball camps all summer long, some starting as early as the first week of June. With the old staff going out and a nee coach likely to be newly hired, who runs these camps? I guess I am assuming the coaching staffs for the mens and womens teams run the camps. Is that the case?
  10. Great Podcast by Miller and Schloss discussing the search for a new basketball coach. https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/basketball/4613351-podcast-who-could-be-next-und-mens-basketball-coach#.XNyVB-NYnEc.twitter
  11. I think overall size of the scoreboard isn't going to be drastically bigger. Don't get me wrong, it will be bigger. but, I think the biggest difference that we will see (much like at the X) is the size of the video-boards. The new scoreboard at the X seems to fit the building without being overly massive. Obviously the new one at the Ralph won't be as big as the new on at the X. But, I think it will fit just fine.
  12. Old score board versus the new scoreboard at Xcel Energy center.
  13. http://www.nhl.com/nhl/en/v3/ext/rules/2018-2019-NHL-rulebook.pdf According to Rule 38.4 section (ix): "The video review process shall be permitted to assist the Referees in determining the legitimacy of all potential goals (e.g. to ensure they are “good hockey goals”). Not sure how determining if a puck was played with a had pass doesn't fall into that category. Anytime a goal is scored, I think everything should be reviewable in determining if it was a good goal. And I guess I thought that that was the case, until last night. I mean if you can review offsides that occurs well before a goal is scored, then hand passes should be reviewable as well. The NHL will likely modify the replay rule to include hand passes next year. Should have been in there already.
  14. If they show the replay on the big screen and every fan in the building can determine the correct call, not sure why referees would have a problem with it. If the fans can see it, so can they. And they should be able to make the correct call as well.

  16. Herbst is the guy that should be hired. If they go with someone else, that's fine. But Herbst is the guy!!
  17. I know it was on the 2011-2012 jerseys (the last year of the Sioux jerseys). I bought one that fall and it has the WCHA on the back. Not sure if it was on there prior to that year.
  18. The UND program was so important to them that instead of committing to their hometown team right out of High School, the decided to go to an already established program at Minnesota so they could better their chances of making Team USA. The fact that the team had little notice when the program was shut down falls all on Idalski. Everyone at UND knew about the budget cuts that had to be made and every coach at UND knew that cuts had to be made in the Athletic Department and that there was a big possibility of programs being cut. Heck, even some bums on a fan message knew what the costs of every sport at UND was. You can't tell me that Idalski didn't see the WIH program being cut was a very realic option. The fact that he didn't prepare his players for that outcome or even discuss that is his fault. When the Lammy Twins went out and made public statements to the media ripping UND, Kennedy, etc, I lost all respect for them. I get it. they were part of the program and the knew most if not all the girls on the team. But there is a mature, respectful way to respond and then there is the immature, childish, temper tantrum way the Lammy twins responded to the entire situation. I respect them as players and what they have accomplished on the ice. But as far as them as people, they have lost all my respect and likely many others with their behavior.
  19. Jones got a contract extension after the 2017 season, the year UND was the Big Sky Champions and made it to the NCAA tournament, and got paid 140K per year. Not sure what Chaves is looking to pay the new head coach, but it can't be for hat low. Not saying it should be 275K like USD, but it should definitely be higher than what they previously have paid. Something around 160K should be the bare minimum IMO.
  20. Biggest reason Heitkamp would be the wrong choice for the next UND President is her ignorance on the financial decisions that had to be made to make UND viable in the future. Her views here expressed about leaving the door open for the womens program coming back should raise some red flags. http://www.espn.com/videohub/video/clip/_/id/19085094/categoryid/clip?id=25813053
  21. the one thing Kennedy does deserve credit for is trimming the fat of the UND budget. Haven't looked into the financials at CU by any means, but it may have played a role in him being selected President there. If he does the same thing at CU, it absulutely will tick of some people. A lot less fiscal conservatives at DU than UND.
  22. Cause the past 15 years of $hit shows at UND have been entertaining enough?!!
