  1. "The University of North Dakota Athletic Department and Ralph Engelstad Arena promote good sportsmanship by student athletes, coaches, and spectators. We request your cooperation by supporting the participants and officials in a positive manner. Profanity, racial, or sexist comments or other intimidating actions directed at officials, students athletes, coaches, or team representatives will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from the site and, if needed, additional disciplinary actions." This has been the policy of the REA since it opened in 2001. Pretty sure this statement has been read by the PA announce before every game since the new Ralph opened (probably even the old Ralph as well). You can debate that enforcement has maybe increased, but it has always been the policy. I am not meaning to sound like the old guy trying to ruin the fun of college students today (Not sure if 39 is considered old). But I was a student sitting in the same student section back in the day, and we had a blast without having to get drunk or yell profanities at the top of our lungs. I will agree that the PC idiots out there that are easily offended by everything have ruined it for everyone, including the REA.
  2. https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/hockey/4551458-ten-things-know-about-unds-hockey-series-canisius HarborCenter, home of Canisius hodckey: "One of the most unique twists to the arena is that it’s on the sixth and seventh floors of the complex." Probably one of the more unique venues that UND hockey has played at in recent years!
  3. GDPritch, I am not hear on my high horse saying that students shouldn't be allowed to have fun. I am just saying that we live in a different world now than we did even 10 years ago where people, including authority figures, are less tolerant of peoples actions that were just part of the norm back in the day. Is it a better atmosphere when the student section is a little tuned up and is standing and chirping profanities at the other team? Absolutely!! I am just stating that those sort of actions don't go over well as much as they were in the past. We live in a world where everyone is offended by everything. And unfortunately, the minority offended voice is often the loudest and heard the most. So student sections are becoming quieter and lamer. And as a result, less students are showing up. So I agree with you in your point that rules at the Ralph have become stricter and as a result, have made the student section unenthusiastic and lame and has caused students to not even show up. And that sucks.
  4. I get that. But these are completely different times. I think it goes without saying that many things that were socially acceptable in the 70's would definitely not fly today.
  5. Besides the standing, what University for any sport allows you to do any of those things in the student section?!!
  6. If you are dumb enough to underage drink in a public facility that has ushers monitoring your activity and security guards literally feet away to bust you, I really don't have too much sympathy for you. Also, if you need to get drunk to enjoy a hockey game, you really aren't there for the right reasons.
  7. Lame excuse. Kicking out fans in the student section that are drinking an/or are drunk is not "taking the fun out of the building."
  8. Appropriate for this thread!! https://www.valleynewslive.com/content/news/Cattle-carefully-choreographed-to-spell-out-NDSU-503669911.html
  9. Gopher women’s basketball attendance last night was 7918. Attendance for the hockey game was 7962. Of course this is paid attendance, so it is likely women’s basketball outdrew men’s hockey.

  11. The students have been more than fortunate with the location of their seats. Sure, they moved them over a section a few years back, but you can still be a student and sit at the 50 yard line. Attendance was great for the students when the Alerus Center opened, but it has become embarrassingly empty in recent years. As desperate and unfortunate it is, I think there needs to be an ultimatum. Students, if you want to keep your seats where they are now, show up. If it becomes apparent that a certain percentage of seats in the student section are going unused, move them to the corner. There are fans that would gladly buy those seats that are going to show up.
  12. Blast from the past chant!!! Haven't heard that one since the late 90's!!
  13. Only difference is PNC Arena isn't on campus. Not sure ho the logistics of the whole thing would work out, but not sure how the NHL feels about and NHL team playing in a building on a college campus.
  14. If Noland wanted to be a backup quarterback, he would have just stayed at Iowa St. He's not coming to Fargo to add depth. He's going there to start.
  15. Haven't you heard? NDSU isn't losing any recruits. Everyone wants to play there. Even over K-State!
  16. Will our starting kicker for next year sign today? (Honest question).
  17. I hope Bubba lets Freund go out a recruit a QB or two that he feels will fit into his type of offense. That would be something that would definitely help our Fruend in the next couple years. I wonder how much control Bubba will give him moving forward with recruiting quarterbacks.
  18. Tale of the Tape: EWU Opponent NDSU Opponent PPG 44.5 21.6 PPG 41.7 11.8 Rush YPG 263 157 Rush YPG 286 112 Pass YPG 277 288 Pass TPG 185 173
  19. Not the same thing. Can't really compare a conference where we have one sport to a conference where every other sport competes.
  20. You do realize that UND left the Summit due to financial reasons right? Had they stayed, other sports may have had to be cut or even worse, not offering FCOA to its athletes. Yes, the Summit has lost several members in its history. But given its proximity in the United States, that is something that isn't totally surprising. Of course the Big Sky has an easier time keeping members. Where are schools supposed to go? Not like there are all these Western conferences sherry picking Big Sky schools. By adding Augie, you could say that the Summit would probably be the stablist it has ever been. The 5 Dakota Schools and Omaha aren't going anywhere.
