  1. Any time you can develope a 7 footer to a solid rebounder and someoune who can shoot outside shots, that adds a lot to the team. Whether Shanks can consistently do that over his career here is the big question mark. We need a guy who can be our Windex man and grab rebounds, especially offensive. Agreed way to early to tell, but he has the potential to fill a need for us. Side note, who was the last 7 footer to play for UND?
  2. Zero Chance they will joing the WCHA. They're re not going to make the investment to add D1 hockey and be in a conference with the likes of Ferris State, Alabama Huntsville, and a couple Alaska schools. The B10 could add them, but that is a long shot. I think Fenton knows that the NCHC is secretly where they want to land, at least for the time being until a PAC12 conference is formed (if ever).
  3. 46-28 they out rebounded us. That is pathetic!
  4. The latest...... http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/education/3640089-task-force-could-modify-nickname-plan
  5. Can Nash take any worse shots? He is inder the basket and tries to shoot these rediculous bank shots. They either miss horribly or they get blocked!! Also, he commits way too many charging fouls. Nash may be the most athletic player on our team, but he is far from the best.
  6. Whoop di frickin do. Do you want a medal or something? With all due respect, we all could care less about the jobs you have interviewed for and have gotten.
  7. I guess Bubba should be showing this little nugget!! http://wallethub.com/edu/best-worst-college-cities-and-towns-in-america/8974/
  8. They do have nice facilities, but their one recruiting disadvantage.....you have to live in Brookings, SD!!
  9. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I thought I read somewhere that UND is the only school at the FCS level that has a chartered plane for their football team to every away game. So as much as our friends to the south want to rip on the Big Sky for the amount of travel, that is a pretty significant perk.
  10. Calvary or Cavalry??? I suppose they both sound the same after 3 or 4 at "the bar."!!
  11. Wait, let me get this straight. You are on a UND fan message board making posts and you are telling us to focus on our own team??!! We are focusing on our team. But news flashm UND is not playing college football anymore this season. This thread's topic is "2014 FCF Playoffs." When your team is not in it, of course we are going to be talking about other teams!! Does this make sense to you? Oh wait.....just realized that your moniker is 2011BisonAlumni!! Now it makes sense to me why you don't get it!!
  12. Happy reading!! https://hlc.und.edu/sites/logo/SitePages/Home.aspx
  13. While talking to a Bison fan in my family, I had to listen about how the Bison will have yet another nationally televised game on ESPN and how much of a recruiting advantage that is. Which got me thinking, how much of a recruiting advantage is it? Obviously having national exposure will help get the word out about a school and they are going to be seen as a successful program since they are in the playoffs and playing on ESPN. But are high school kids and FBS transfers surfing the TV stations on a Friday or Saturday to see what FCS schools are playing on TV when making their decision to where they will go to school and play college football? There are many factors that go into a kids decision on where to play college football. National exposure is a big one, but it is not the only one and maybe not necessarily the most important. These recruits look at all sorts of variables. Coaching staff, facilities, college campus, programs that they could major in, location. All these things come into play when picking a college. So while playing a game on national television will deffinitely send a message to recruits that you are a successful program, but I don't think it is the end all decision maker for a kid picking where to play college football. So what is the biggest recruiting advantage that coaches use?
  14. Winnipeg has all the good Air Force names. (Bombers, Jets). What's left....Airmen?!!
  15. One of the many things that made the Fighting Sioux name great and why people took pride in it was th fact that it was original., No other University had it. So when people said "Fighting Sioux" you knew what University you were referring too. Pickeing a generic name will end that sense of pride we all had with the old name. I ma all about selecting a new name at this point....but if it's on this list, I don't want it. Might be a tall task, but originality, IMO, is important. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_college_sports_team_nicknames
  16. Let's just say that UND still wants to remember its history with having the Sioux name and wants to choose a name that honors that. What are the chances of the Standing Rock and Spirit Lake tribes suggesting and getting behind a name that is part of their heritage and that they felt would be appropriate for UND to use as a nickname. Obviously anything relating to Sioux or any names given to their people they will not support (at least at SR). But let's say they came up with a native american symbol, animal, name, etc that they fully supported and put it in writing and awarded it to UND. There would be no way that the NCAA could say that a name picked by native american tribes in the state could be deemed hostile and abbusive. I thnk that this option should at least be considered.
  17. I think the difference in the game will be our bench v. their bench. I think this is where UND has the upper hand. We will be able to rotate more guys in (especially in the back court) and will wear them down in the second half. I espect a close game, but I think we will pull away at the end.
  18.   That was a question on the survey. Who whould be in the slection process. Sioux tribe members were an option. Who knows. There may be Sioux symbol, animal, etc name that no one has thought of that they may suggest that would be suitable for a new name. If we can't be the Sioux anymore, what better way to honor the legacy of the old name by selecting a name that has a Sioux origin.
  19. Don't bring a knife to a gun fight......A Roughrider will beat a Knight in a shootout every time!! http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports-prep-sports/boys-hockey-riders-nip-knights-shootout-3631227
  20. Where have you been the last 8 years?? Welcome to the real world!
  21. 5 Championships in the past 10 years....I don't think they went anywhere!!!
  22. No name was an option of the survey only because they knew people would want to express that opinion. Does anyone actually think that UND will not select a new name and just be North Dakota?
  23. First step in selecting a new name is informing people that "Fighting Sioux", "Sioux", or no name at all are NOT an option. People need to realize that a new name IS going to be selected. Once people finally realize that and accept that, the process can finally begin moving forward.
