  1. What's needed at the Alerus? Someone new to run it apparently..... http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/4238752-operator-vikings-stadium-applies-run-grand-forks-alerus-center
  2. I know that there are a lot of people who right now say that they will never support the Fighting Hawks name and logo. That the new name is unoriginal and generic and that the logo was shoved down our throats. I get it. We all feel that way. I think the one request that many of us that have moved towards the new name and logo is just to give it a chance. Of course we all would want UND to still be the Fighting Sioux, but that is not an option. I wasn't a huge fan of the name and logo either when both were announced. But I chose to put all that aside and embrace the Fighting Hawks. I am not saying you have to start yelling "Go Hawks" at games in your Fighting Hawks shirt, sweatshirt, and hat. Go at your own speed. But at least try to embrace the change. You may suprise yourself and might actually think that the Fighting Hawks name and logo aren't all that bad.
  3. Grand Forks to Minneapolis - 315 miles Grand Forks to Sioux FAlls - 319 miles Plus, traffic, hotels, etc are going to be a lot more affordable in Sioux Falls than downtown Minneapolis. Sioux Falls isn't some small little podunk town. They have a population of 165,000. If you want to go to the Cities and do other stuff besides go to hockey games, than Minneapolis is probably your best bet. But if you want to go to a venue where hockey is the main tenant, is easy to get to, cheaper all around, and is the same distance away minus all the traffic, Sioux Falls is the better option.
  4. Who picks these games? The Big Sky or Root sports?
  5. The Fighting Hawks logo on the ice at Scheels arena. The logo looks good on the ice with a white background. Preview of things to come at center ice at the Ralph next year?!!
  6. Bubba's deal when he was hired in 2014 was for $150,000. Three years, a conference Championship, and a playoff appearance later, he signed a new 5 year deal for $185,000 a year that will increase by $10,000 each year. UND picked up Jones option and signed him on through the 2017 season back in 2013 for $100,000. 4 years later and a Conference Championship and a trip to the NCAA tournament, a contract extension is TBD. Men's College basketball has the potential to be UND's highest profile sport. Just look at the numbers. 1.4 million people watched the NCAA tournament game against Arizona. That is the most watched UND sporting event in UND athletics history. UND needs to pay it's MBB coach appropriately. Jones has had his struggles, but he definitely deserves a contract and a raise for him and his assistants. If UND is serious about taping into the potential of MBB, then need to offer Jones at least a deal similar to what they gave Bubba, if not more.
  7. I think every UND player, coach, fan, etc is hoping UMD gets sent to Fargo.
  8. This topic was mentioned in a thread, and I thought that since the season is now over, why not start up a good conversation about the greatest players in UND basketball history. The question was asked whether Hooker is on UND's "Mount Rushmore" of basketball. Great question. UND has had some pretty spectacular players. 3 of the 4 I would put up there would be Scott Guldseth, Dave Vonesh, and Phil Jackson. But who gets the 4th spot? Hooker had one heck of a career. does he belong up there with the all time greats at UND? Players like Chirs Gardner, Travis Tuttle, Mike Boschee, Troy Huff, and Jerome Beasley (to name a few) all had great careers. So who is your "Mount Rushmore" of UND mens basketball?!!
  9. I have never been more excited for a basketball game in all my life as I was last night!! As cool as it was seeing North Dakota playing in the Big Dance, it was even better seeing how well we played. UND could have gone out there and lost by 30 and no one would have thought any less of them. Arizona is a legit contender for the National Championship, and our boys hung with them. Even when they were shooting at 63%, we were still hanging around. Watching them come back in the second half cutting the lead to 7 and hearing every fan (besides Wildcat fans) get behind us was an incredible moment. These guys worked their asses off the last few years to take this program from the bottom of the Big Sky to the top to winning the Conference and earning a trip to the Dance! Jones said about Hooker that he is a program changing type player. That's exactly what he did. The way he played the game turned into the way North Dakota as a team plays the game. Up tempo, in your face, high energy basketball. It will be tough to not see him on this team next year, but he definitely made his mark. Congrats Fighting Hawks on an awesome season. Those of us who have watched UND from when we were kids watching games at the Hyslop, you definitely made us proud to be UND basketball fans tonight. Never giving up until that final buzzer went off. Basketball has mad its resurgence to UND. Hoping we can build off this experience and be even better next year. The future looks very bring for North Dakota Fighting Hawks basketball.
  10. I would be shocked if the Fighting Hawks logo wasn't on the ice next week at Scheels Arena.
  11. I thought the same thing. However, I don't think that the Ralph is set on not adopting the Fighting Hawks logo as much as others here have suggested.
  12. Unfortunately the "hockey only" crowd is falling way behind the majority of the fanbases of the rest of the sports at UND in regards to supporting the new name and logo. 50 percent Sioux gear in 20 years? Not likely. But you can continue to not accept reality and pretend we don't have a new name and logo. #notmynickname The hockey team will be wearing gear with the Fighting Hawks logo on it next year. Will you?!!
  13. I really don't think that it is Jones' responsibility to setup interviews with radio stations. Also don't think it is his responsibility to communicate with program directors when he is unable to participate. You are deflecting your frustration at the wrong person. I know its easy to rip Jones, but most likely it was a SID at UND that dropped the ball. Honestly, who freakin cares. You need to relax!! Like Justin Gaard (program director for Bariero) said, This stuff happens ALL THE TIME!! Let it go.
  14. Emailed fans@theralph.com to see if I could get a response about how the Ralph plans to proceed with integrating the new Fighting Hawks logo. Got a pretty prompt response from the marketing manager: Good morning, We’re working with UND to integrate the logo into game elements (pre-game videos, player introductions, etc.) as well as digital signage. Changes to permanent signage will have to be approved by our board. While there may not be wholesale changes right away, you should continue to see the Fighting Hawk logo more prominently at hockey games (including new jerseys). 15. HA!! Totally missed the reference. Yeah, that was a pretty dumb move. certainly didn't help in their attempt to win the game!!
  16. Letting "The Mount" milk the clock down to less than 3 seconds was a really dumb move. It allowed no time to win or tie the game with a 3 pointer. Foul and at worst you have 20+ seconds to either score a quick 2 or tie it with a 3. Bad coaching at a very crucial time.
  17. "The players say USA Hockey pays the Women's National Team $1,000 per month for six months during the Olympic centralization period, but almost nothing for the other three-and-a-half years of a four-year Olympic cycle." I guess I missed the part where being on the US National team was a full time job and deserved full time pay and benefits.
  18. The Betty does have the large Fighting Hawks logo at the north end with all the other Big Sky logos. The floor at the Betty will be replaced next year most likely to show a new Summit League logo. I would assume the Fighting Hawks logo will also be added at mid court. As far as the Ralph goes, I would anticipate a Fighting Hawks logo at center ice next year, and they be about it for now. Which is fine. I wouldn't say there is no interest to display the new logos, nor should their be. You will start seeing more and more of the new logo at the Ralph/Betty in the very near future.
  19. So when do the neon Sioux logo's outside the Ralph get updated with the Figghting Hawks logo?!
