Apparently, the way I understand it, if you are of a certain age (at least 19???), then you are automatically draft eligible when the May 1st deadline rolls around each year. But if you are not of this age, whatever it might be, if you declare yourself eligible for the draft, you lose your collegiate eligibility. Zach Parise was eligible for the draft last year due to his age, he got drafted, but he still could play college hockey. This spring, he actually SIGNED a pro contract, which lost him his college eligibility. If Drew Stafford were to wait until after his sophomore season, he would be able to be drafted without losing his eligibility, under the old rule. With the removal of that rule, he can enter the draft this year, next year, or whenever he wants, and not have to worry about losing his college eligibility. I hope this answers what you were asking...

INCH has a breaking news story that the NCAA will allow players to opt-in and retain their eligiblity. Looks like Drew can be drafted now, and then UND will be at the mercy of whatever team drafted him...

The bench going crazy? You should have seen the living room I was watching the game in... it was me, my wife, a buddy of mine, his wife, and my 6 month old daughter. The four of us scared the he$$ out of my poor kid, we were screaming and jumping up and down! I twisted an ankle jumping, but I shook off the pain..., until BC scored in OT. The year before, I was working at Big Daddy's in GF, and I remember my boss had us give everyone a free drink when the Sioux clinched it with the empty netter... I wish it were October, no wait, I like summer weather... I wish hockey season just never ended!

I guess we can blame this whole deal on the WCHA and its refs, as it appears the Devil's pulled him out of school only to protect their future investment... Zach probably signed with the understanding that he could make the team before the playoffs started, and now if he doesn't make it and if there is no NHL season next year, his decision to leave early now looks as if it was the wrong choice for him to make... Too bad Dean Blais was right when he warned that all the mugging and abuse Zach was taking would lead to this...

Aren't the final votes already in? So that would mean that the fact that Lessard is still playing has no bearing on it, right? I read somewhere where some reporter stated that "the college hockey world is like the Cheers bar to Zach Parise... everybody knows his name". Not that I don't think Lessard would be worthy of the award, but how does he catch any of the eastern voters like Parise probly will?

I saw something on USCHO that mentioned that INCH had this up on their page. Hobey Hat Trick Inside College Hockey has learned that Brown goaltender Yann Danis, Minnesota-Duluth forward Junior Lessard and North Dakota forward Zach Parise are the three finalists for this year's Hobey Baker Memorial Award. An official announcement from the award committee is expected later today. The 2004 Hobey Baker Award winner will be honored April 9 at Faneuil Hall in Boston. Check back with INCH later today for more on the three finalists.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I can't believe this, great for him, sucks for UND and the fans... See ya ZPar...

I was hoping that I would have woken up from this nightmare this morning, but I guess the reality of it is, as Pat stated, that this team will be remembered in the same breath as the '97-'98 and '98-'99 Sioux teams... As soon as I heard Hennessey mention the '98-'99 team and their loss to BC in the regionals, I started getting nervous... If MN wins a 3rd title, I am gonna crawl into a hole and asked to be buried, at least that way I might not have to hear what Happy and Scooby have to say, in the event that MN wins again...

Yesterday's Boston Globe Article on Seedings, etc.

Yeah, and when he got up, he banked one in off of King's face mask... -
That's not the point, the point is that Vanek's linemates on the penalty kill should be worshipped by all Gopher fans for esentially, killing penalties 5-3.

Good question, I don't know the answer... PCM? Anyone else...? I know there are more knowledgeable people on these things than me around here...

AMEN!!! GO SIOUX!!!!
-
Regardless of the opinions of us fans, I seriously hope the Sioux are not taking HC lightly. Seems like they have a lot of seniors on their team, which means they are playing every game as if it their last one... that makes for a dangerous opponent. Then again, they did lose to Maine, and gave up 7 goals doing it... Oh yeah, and MN lost to Maine, 4-0. I wonder where Maine's offense went?!?
-
I am of the opinion that if MN was the overall #2, they still would have been placed in Grand Rapids, the MidWest Regional, and STILL have to play the winner of the West Regional, which could very well be the Sioux... But that is just my opinion...
-
I don't know that anyone could have said that any better... can we bring this to old Bruce M's attention? The people who voted on this award need to be taken outside and beaten by the likes of Matt Greene, Matt Jones, Mike Prpich, Jake Taylor, Marco Peluso, etc...
-
How many points did Irmen and/or Grant P. have in 2 games? I still say the guy who scored 7 points is the MVP, but hey, I am just a homer... And yes, King should have been the all-touney goalie...
-
One more thing, INCH needs to get it straight, as Bo is only a JUNIOR, they keep listing him as a Senior, Zach as a Sophomore... oh well, at least they got one of them right...
-
Not that I don't have any faith or would ever try to deny Zach Parise anything, but does anyone recall the last time we were this sure of our team winning it all... as in the '98 and '99 "one and done" years? I want to see the Sioux win it all as much as anyone else, but doesn't predicting it and our "calling the shot" tend to put a hex on the whole effort? And if you need anymore arguments from me, I personally went on espn.com's message boards 3 years ago, when the Sioux were about to play for a second championship vs. BC, and proceeded to tell everyone on that board who didn't think Panzer deserved the Hobey/UND would would it again to go to he$$... and we all know how that ended... I guess what I am trying to say is, I will leave the predictions and the smack talk to others, I will just cheer really hard for the team
-
People who start threads with titles like this one should be SHOT, you just about gave me a HEART ATTACK!!!
-
I have lots of faith, but why do the dirty work when you can get someone else to do it?
-
So if I were to want to print this out on paper, how do they match up at the Frozen Four? Does West champ play MidWest Champ and East Champ play NE Champ? I think that is how they usually do it, isn't it? Just wondering...
-
You're kidding me, right? Not that Eaves isn't good, and I thought after seeing him in GF this fall that he should win it, but the guy missed what, half the year? How did he even get a chance to make an argument for it? Anyone who knows ANYTHING about hockey at this very moment KNOWS who the best player in the country is, and he wears #11 and plays for UND...
-
Sucks for both of them, but it is good for everyone else... I hope Duluth takes them f'n rodents out...
-
So what do we have for confirmed matchups so far? I don't have cable, and all USCHO has is the East Regional showing as done...
-
It's because Sandy knows where he learned how to be such a great coach, and he is grateful...
