  3. I'd be curious what Monty is preaching to his boys at Magness this week during practice and film. If I had to guess, DU won't take UND lightly but that said, I wonder if it's in their minds that our guys could be a tad fragile, ego wise, and really come out hard against us on Friday. To me, DU is a better all around team than Minnesota but we're playing at home so that helps negate some of that a bit.
  4. Ha Ha, nope....that's former Sioux player Gary Valk. We met him a few years ago when UND played in that tournament in Burnaby, BC.
  5. Me, my wife, and two friends road tripped it from Colorado to Omaha. CC forward Westin Michaud walked over to our dinner table after Friday's game to personally thank us for our support. He was a really nice guy and spent some time chatting with us about the team and such. Definitely made the experience that much better for us!
  6. I loved Amsoil Arena! Like Baxter Arena, I loved the open air concourse. I'm going to Miami in March for the first time and very much looking forward to experiencing games in their barn!
  7. Oh we didn't see shoddy workmanship at all. Perhaps they weren't quite finished with everything when UND was there. Sight lines were fantastic and you wouldn't know it seated 7,800 people as the ceiling was nice and low, giving it a very "cozy" feel. Loud too. Fans were awesome in defeat and victory. Free parking for fans too! How often do you see that?!?! And finally, lots of bars and restaurants within short walking distance across the street from the arena.
  8. Agreed.
  9. Gophers will always have 0.6 but I will always be forever grateful to Shayne Gostisbehere...three points and a plus 7 in the national championship game for the Dutchmen.
  10. We went to the CC/Omaha game tonight and we were very impressed with Baxter Arena. Nice facility, great sight lines, loud, open air concourse similar to Amsoil Arena. And best of all, CC won!
  11. Right on all points! I'd add one more: Duluth is a helluva hockey team (and not just because they beat us). Talk about gap control, clogging up the middle, forcing UND to the perimeter, winning faceoffs, etc. Just a fundamentally sound, experienced hockey team. I think UND's youth showed (anyone know the stats on Duluth vs. UND regarding # of freshmen?).
  12. I don't think Boeser looked "lost" on that three-on-two. If you watch the replay, he had to commit to either the puck carrier in the middle entering the high slot or the breaking right wing....he chose the puck carrier who made a nice dish to the right winger who in turn touch passed it to the streaking winger for the goal. Hard to say Boeser made the wrong play when it quickly developed into basically a two-on-one.
  13. Man, what a kick in the stones!
  14. True but I think we've done our fair share of being road dogs over the years.
  15. Some years back, Cornell was in town and Coach Schafer was gracious enough to speak at Sioux boosters and he addressed the fact that certain "big" schools refused to travel. He said he liked scheduling games against teams like North Dakota because they'll return the favor by traveling to their barn. I took his comments as a direct shot at programs like Minnesota and Michigan.
  16. When it's UND's turn, they'll say something other than the Ralph because the question pertains to another team's barn. My guess is, they'll say Magness Arena (not because of the 1,000 or so DU fans but because of how electric the atmosphere is and the playoff-like feel all of those games have). Easily my favorite road series of the year.
  17. In the sincerest form of flattery to coach Montgomery and the Pios, I sure wish he'd leave and go back to Orono! Helluva coach and a very classy guy.
  18. Im disappointed, I trolled GPL this morning on the UofM/SCSU page, hoping and expecting to see some witty comments from MafiaMan and found nothing! What's up, MafiaMan, are you just not wanting to "poke the bear" prior to our series down there in Minneapolis???
  19. Anyone know where a guy can watch the highlights of the gopher/St cloud game?
  20. Yah me too! I hope one gopher fan in particular had a birds eye view of the OT winner (this POS who was being a royal d bag to some UND fans at the UND/UM series in 2012 at the John).
  21. You know us UND fans hate the gophers when we take great delight in Jan Brady State beating them!
  22. I'm too lazy to do the digging but my guess is, UND has not been the league leader in PIMS oh, say the past five years. Our team and game has evolved, we don't have a roster loaded with 6'5" 230 lb D men and forwards who like to fight (this is not a criticism of past UND teams, simply an observation). When I think of UND's blue line these days, I think of guys like Simpson, Genoway, Stecher, etc. Fast, offensively gifted D men. Am I wrong?
  23. Well, we can agree to disagree. Unless someone has proven to be a liar, I can only take them at their word. Plus, if your account is true, why would Gwoz waste his time approaching and talking with a linesman? Why not walk over to one of the Refs?
  24. I hear you. He was a very intense coach. There is a common misperception that the time he walked out on the ice at the Ralph was because he wanted to argue some more with the officials. Gwoz went on to admit in an interview that the reason he walked out on the ice was because he got confused. At Magness, DU has to go across the ice to get to their locker room and according to Gwoz, he realized the folly of his confusion when he got about two-thirds of the way across the ice and was so embarrassed, he simply tried selling it as if he meant to do it. Plus, if he really intended to do what he did, he wouldn't have approached a linesmen, he would've went up to a Referee. Watch the video and you'll see what I mean.
