No question. As you said earlier, at some point, Studsrud is going to have to make plays with his arm to either keep pace with another offense or bring them back from behind. Our defense is bound to give up some points in BSC play like they did against Davis. Remaining teams on the schedule have the offenses to score more. We all hope he matures that way sooner rather than later. How long it takes remains the question. Excited about this weekend's game against a very good Portland State team. The season won't be over if we lose, but it would sure be nice to win this one on the road.

Studsrud needs to be better throwing the ball, no question. His accuracy when receivers are open has been spotty overall and was again yesterday. This has to improve and I believe it will. The kid is a true sophomore who has started 8 games.....8. For all the former players on here (and i know there are a handful commenting on this thread right now), think of where you were at after 8 games, much less if you were thrown into the fire as a true freshman in the middle of the season, much less at QB. BigGame mentioned this earlier, everyone likes to talk about "Bubba Ball", but nobody seems to know or remember what "Bubba Ball" is exactly. Yes, we need to stretch the field vertically. Yes, we need receivers who can do that. Yes, we need to be able to protect long enough to be able to look downfield. Yes, our young RBs need to do something in pass pro. Yes, Studsrud needs to have better pocket presence. Yes, Studsrud needs to be more accurate throwing the ball. Having said all that, it's clear to me that Studsrud is the guy without question in the eyes of the coaching staff. Which tells me nobody else has done enough in practice or otherwise to warrant a change. Think about that once. We need to allow Studsrud to continue to learn and develop, sometimes from his own mistakes, which we have seen many. One thing I noticed yesterday from Studsrud that I havent really seen before was a concerted effort to look off one direction before throwing back to the other. He wasnt doing this early on this season, but now you can tell he is at least trying and is able to do it in a game. This is one example of progression and development. But it will take more time. Unless we change our philosophy, Bartels cannot physically run this offense. Literally and figuratively. A healthy Mollberg could run this offense, but I dont think he's there yet. Plus the sample size on him has been there from 2 different staffs who have come to the same conclusions. And Mollberg isn't as fast and athletic as Studsrud. I agree, this season will be a challenge to say the least if we continue to throw at this rate. But we need to let our offense improve, develop and evolve first. I think we are seeing that right now. If we are saying the same things at the end of this year or even early next year, then I will probably have a different opinion. We're 3-1, we have our 1st FBS win (yes, Wyoming isnt great) and 1-0 in the BSC and get to go play a tough Portland State team this week to try get to 4-1 and 2-0. I am personally seeing development of our players across the board on both sides of the ball. Hell, Deion Harris read 3-step, made a great break, cut off the receiver, and actually caught the ball. All textbook.....until he got caught by the QB . Here's to the continued development of the team and program. Cheers.

This thread....just lol...

This staff would not have pulled his shirt if they didnt think he would play a lot this year and was an upgrade. Guarantee that.
-
Do you honestly think he isnt going to play regularly for the rest of the season?

You have quite the complex there, Herd. Just stating facts here.... Using your logic, ndsu said "me too" after Liberty announced in April 2015. Some 4 plus months later. I think that says it all. Congrats. Who cares.

I still maintain for the 50th time that their best FBS win was Central Michigan. 30 point shellacking of a very talented Chippewa team on their home turf. Given all the variables, KSU was a close 2nd in my opinion. Wyoming was 3rd.

No more "Track it down, Marge!" for UND Football
UNDvince97-01 replied to choyt3's topic in Football
It's puts some perspective on Jack Michaels' abilities as a PBP guy. I was not a fan of his bison allegiance/conflict of interest on 740 KFAN, but I really thought he did a great job with everything. His excitement on the call late last year was contagious. Again, Pat will get better. -

I'd say like everything else, give Pat some time to get better. It's one game. He hasn't called a football game on the radio since the early 90's I believe. TV and radio are totally different for a PBP guy. Need to be much more descriptive on the radio and be excitable. He obviously struggled a bit yesterday, but I believe he will get better at it with experience and practice. You could almost hear the nervousness in his voice. Like any football coach, I'm sure he will go back and review the tape to see how he can get better. Plus he has Coach Berg to help out. -
I hope we aren't ranked yet. Let the players get pissed and play with a chip on their shoulder rather than having them thinking it's pretty to cool to be ranked and thinking they are better than they really are. Let's go earn it.

Deez nutz might have something to say about that...

Oh.....well if your ndsu math doesn't add up, then we had better reconsider this whole FCOA thing. Your record on here is deplorable. The only thing worse is probably your ndsu math.

You still mad, bro?...

I think it should be noted that President Kelley was probably the biggest proponent of this, and he had to be in order for Faison and the Athletics Department to move forward on it. Admittedly, I personally have been critical of many things both of these guys have or have not done since their arrival at UND. I still stand by those criticisms. However, it could have been easy for a lameduck President who has been in the crosshairs for a variety of reasons lately, to do nothing and ride it out until he's done and allow the next President to have to deal with it. Like anything, you have to take the good with the bad. I think we all need to applaud both Kelley and Faison for expediting this so fast in response to the cow college's ante. Essentially, a giant middle digit was extended 70 miles south on I-29 by both of them. Now, we wait and see what the unfortunate collateral damage may or may not be....

You cant make it up. No mention of the incident at all by Dom, McFeely, or "mouthpiece" Kolpack until AFTER a statement is released saying no discipline. Now firing on all cylinders. Not surprising on the disciplinary end of things. Status quo. Nothing to see here.

Ive said the same thing - potentially a precursor to a jump to FBS... But, which conference is inviting them?
-
Just think, Bohl was never leaving FU for anything less than a Big 12 job. When he took the Wyoming job, the Fargo media and Fargo media only (Dom Izzo and Jeff "mouthpiece" Kolpack), literally made up a rumor that Wyoming was heading to the Big 12 to justify it. (everyone else giggled at this or thought it was absurd) And now, it's so ironic to see that the job Bohl left FU for cant even stream their own home games online. The truth is that Wyoming is a Big Sky School on steroids.

Raise your hand (with your keyboard) if you know Rudolph's offense, the playcalling, checks at the line and progressions for the qb on every play that you may or may not have seen since last season. Add into that the intangibles of leadership, command of the huddle, and teammates willingness and confidence to believe in any qb to best give them the chance to win. Furthermore, raise your mouse if you have watched the film in staff meetings of games and practices since last season to make a case for any of the qbs. If you did, how did each guy grade out? This coaching staff lives, breathes and eats this stuff for a career and living. This is their livelihood- literally. We all need to trust their evals to put this team in the best position to win, on and off the field. If a pattern of poor coaching decisions emerges over the next couple seasons, have at it. Until then, can we just let them do their jobs and see how it plays out before we tell everyone here how wrong they are/were? We only have 11 games under the belt of this regime. I more than trust the evals and judgment of the depth chart decisions that have been made thus far. It's clear to me that Studsrud WON this job since last year in the eyes of the people who matter most. Nothing more, nothing less.

I have said from the get-go that there is no chance the helmet and jersey colors will match. Unless they repaint the helmets, which is the problem in the first place. The green on the helmet is just off.

Sic, you are so cute. That is the exact type of correction you are famous for on here. But yes, better...
-
I believe Kelley and/or any UND President is/was required to give a minimum 90 days notice prior to resignation. So technically he could not have done that.
-
I would guess that he will play with his hand on the ground as a 5 technique DE.

Will be interesting to see if College Gameday has any interest in the renewal of one of the oldest rivalries in college football after a 10 year hiatus...
