Oops, spoke too soon I guess...
-
Offensive line dominating line of scrimmage and besides the trick play, UND defense playing well so far (I know, it's still early). Nothing too negative to bitch about so far, so nobody is here...
-
Wish we had that 34 yard FG earlier.

One thing we also have to remember is that this is life in the FCS and more specifically the Big Sky Conference. I'm not saying we should accept this loss, because it was a bad one. This loss hurt. However, this conference top to bottom has improved dramatically since even our arrival into the conference. Even a few years down the road when we are heavily-favored against BSC teams below us, we will have some losses like this here and there. Just ask Montana, who lost to Weber State at home last week for the first time in almost 30 years. You obviously want to avoid them at all costs, but it was/is inevitable, especially given the injury and youth and depth situation. I just hope we can rebound from here on out, get healthy and stay healthy.

I 100% disagree with this and believe this is incorrect. 2 different staffs have come up with the same conclusion. But you have a right to your opinion on that.
-
Correct. Which tells you how well he was doing at QB.
-
And it's not close... It took Hendrickson 4 years to finally get a chance to get on the field, more from a mental standpoint.
-
How many QBs actually SCORE on the QB power plays for TDs vs Wyoming and Portland State? Sure they hit the hole and break upfield, but do they get caught and are forced to snap it again? How about turning the corner and beating the edge on the naked boot on 3rd down today to end the game? You can't even have that play on your call sheet with some other QBs.
-
A lot of truth here... But you forgot: receivers dropping balls, catching the ball and falling down after a good throw, receivers running the wrong routes. I believe I saw all 3 today if I wasn't mistaken. Bottom line is Studsrud needs to continue to develop and get better at everything you mentioned. Studsrud fits exactly what the OC wants to do with this offense for playcalling and personnel (sans the throwing part at this point).

Sorry. Poor attempt at humor and levity. My apologies.
-
I bet you could throw a football over them mountains...
-
I can certainly understand the displeasure with the playcall on the flea-flicker and ultimate horrible decision by studsrud to throw it, but that 3rd down call on the Studsrud boot was fantastic. Studsrud still needs to improve. Great win!!
-
Iwarri Smith running with the mentality of a track guy, like I had feared back in May and got ripped for.
-
No question. As you said earlier, at some point, Studsrud is going to have to make plays with his arm to either keep pace with another offense or bring them back from behind. Our defense is bound to give up some points in BSC play like they did against Davis. Remaining teams on the schedule have the offenses to score more. We all hope he matures that way sooner rather than later. How long it takes remains the question. Excited about this weekend's game against a very good Portland State team. The season won't be over if we lose, but it would sure be nice to win this one on the road.

Studsrud needs to be better throwing the ball, no question. His accuracy when receivers are open has been spotty overall and was again yesterday. This has to improve and I believe it will. The kid is a true sophomore who has started 8 games.....8. For all the former players on here (and i know there are a handful commenting on this thread right now), think of where you were at after 8 games, much less if you were thrown into the fire as a true freshman in the middle of the season, much less at QB. BigGame mentioned this earlier, everyone likes to talk about "Bubba Ball", but nobody seems to know or remember what "Bubba Ball" is exactly. Yes, we need to stretch the field vertically. Yes, we need receivers who can do that. Yes, we need to be able to protect long enough to be able to look downfield. Yes, our young RBs need to do something in pass pro. Yes, Studsrud needs to have better pocket presence. Yes, Studsrud needs to be more accurate throwing the ball. Having said all that, it's clear to me that Studsrud is the guy without question in the eyes of the coaching staff. Which tells me nobody else has done enough in practice or otherwise to warrant a change. Think about that once. We need to allow Studsrud to continue to learn and develop, sometimes from his own mistakes, which we have seen many. One thing I noticed yesterday from Studsrud that I havent really seen before was a concerted effort to look off one direction before throwing back to the other. He wasnt doing this early on this season, but now you can tell he is at least trying and is able to do it in a game. This is one example of progression and development. But it will take more time. Unless we change our philosophy, Bartels cannot physically run this offense. Literally and figuratively. A healthy Mollberg could run this offense, but I dont think he's there yet. Plus the sample size on him has been there from 2 different staffs who have come to the same conclusions. And Mollberg isn't as fast and athletic as Studsrud. I agree, this season will be a challenge to say the least if we continue to throw at this rate. But we need to let our offense improve, develop and evolve first. I think we are seeing that right now. If we are saying the same things at the end of this year or even early next year, then I will probably have a different opinion. We're 3-1, we have our 1st FBS win (yes, Wyoming isnt great) and 1-0 in the BSC and get to go play a tough Portland State team this week to try get to 4-1 and 2-0. I am personally seeing development of our players across the board on both sides of the ball. Hell, Deion Harris read 3-step, made a great break, cut off the receiver, and actually caught the ball. All textbook.....until he got caught by the QB . Here's to the continued development of the team and program. Cheers.

This thread....just lol...
-
This staff would not have pulled his shirt if they didnt think he would play a lot this year and was an upgrade. Guarantee that.
-
Do you honestly think he isnt going to play regularly for the rest of the season?
-
You have quite the complex there, Herd. Just stating facts here.... Using your logic, ndsu said "me too" after Liberty announced in April 2015. Some 4 plus months later. I think that says it all. Congrats. Who cares.
-
I still maintain for the 50th time that their best FBS win was Central Michigan. 30 point shellacking of a very talented Chippewa team on their home turf. Given all the variables, KSU was a close 2nd in my opinion. Wyoming was 3rd.

No more "Track it down, Marge!" for UND Football

It's puts some perspective on Jack Michaels' abilities as a PBP guy. I was not a fan of his bison allegiance/conflict of interest on 740 KFAN, but I really thought he did a great job with everything. His excitement on the call late last year was contagious. Again, Pat will get better. -

I'd say like everything else, give Pat some time to get better. It's one game. He hasn't called a football game on the radio since the early 90's I believe. TV and radio are totally different for a PBP guy. Need to be much more descriptive on the radio and be excitable. He obviously struggled a bit yesterday, but I believe he will get better at it with experience and practice. You could almost hear the nervousness in his voice. Like any football coach, I'm sure he will go back and review the tape to see how he can get better. Plus he has Coach Berg to help out. -
I hope we aren't ranked yet. Let the players get pissed and play with a chip on their shoulder rather than having them thinking it's pretty to cool to be ranked and thinking they are better than they really are. Let's go earn it.

Deez nutz might have something to say about that...
