sagard, GE, et al. Has anything come of the Gopher's recruiting of a goalie? I heard that at one time they were recruiting Joe Fallon and another time that whoever was recruited would be joining the team this semester. The latter has been proven false, but it remains to be seen whether or not Briggs can hold the fort alone. Because, let's face it, I may be a Sioux fan, but if JJ gets any action this weekend, ZPar and BB's eyes will light up and so will the red lamp... MANY times.

A nice reply by Bruce, but I think it is the party line, like WPoS said. Nevertheless, I am going to take Commissioner McLeod for his word and just hope for the best. Truthfully, I really think change this drastic cannot come from the existing hierarchy. Meaning Greg either needs to be demoted back to referee, retire, or just be replaced entirely. I get the feeling, like WPoS pointed out regarding J-Mart (a player which I do not care much for, but yet... convulsions? I wouldn't even wish that upon any hockey player regardless of team or his gameplay) that Pappa Sheperd is far to "buddy-buddy" with the officials in the league. In an aspect of a sport that has a steep learning curve and little room for error, there really isn't room to run the biz from a friendship standpoint in management. Greg can't be the refs' friend, he just can't. Professional seperation is the key.

O-Player of the week: Parise or Vannek or who?

The fact that Vanek got a hat trick was meaningless. If Bochenski didn't get it for his 4 goal Friday performance vs UAA, then Vanek won't get it because of his hat trick. Hat tricks aside, and just looking at the weekend totals, I will pick Vanek for USCHO and INCH POTW honors. Why? Because the Gophers at one time sucked this season and the Austrian sensation showing up is just a feel good story to more people (Minnesota population is larger than ND's). Therefore, Vanek gets the nod. If everything is fair, then there would be co-POTWs, which is what will happen with WCHA honors. -
What I hope is that Kerry Frasier will retire after this season if there is a lockout. Then I hope the WCHA can woo him in and fire Greg Sheperd and then give Kerry the reigns. Then, give him the "keys" to the ax and watch him go to town. That would be neat to see. Dreaming, but still neat to see. Edit: And Dogz, if you became a ref, then we'd know why you are making all those favorable calls towards UMD

The 5'5" short dude's name is Pittis, btw. Thanks for the run down. I'd love to go to UMD on the fun bus and all

The whole atmosphere thing is a crock now. I mean, on Saturday's game vs UAA, it was LOUD! I was expecting no one to show (So was the Ralph) and it was amazing. But even before that the atmosphere was there. The only real time that it wasn't was the exhibition games (the U-18 game HAS to be the lowest home attendence figures for the Sioux this season at least). Gosh if the Gophers were coming to the Ralph next week instead of us going there, I'm sure the roof would darn near blow off it would be so loud.

sagard, I am curious what you would think would happen if the Gophers get swept by the Sioux. Do you think that would adversely affect their NCAA run? I am not talking about WCHA, because it's already established that Lucia doesn't care much for league titles.

Hell, even Bina is proving he has a decent shot! Who can catch up to Potulny? With Murray arguably one of the fastest if not the fastest player with the puck in the WCHA, I am thinking that without the puck, Potulny will be made to look like a slug. Woog is an idiot. I think he should go back into coaching so that only those on his roster have to listen to him instead of those unfortunates who tune into FSN.
-
Bochenski went 2-2-4 Murray went 1-4-5 ZPar went 4-3-7 This line did really well this weekend.
-
Zpar was 4-3-7 This weekend

I liken FSN's goons to Ross' stages of coping with death. From her book, Death and Dying, which came out in either the 60s or the 70s, she states that there are several steps to coping with grief. First is denial, and then follows sorrow, anger, questioning, and on and on until acceptance. This is no different with Mazziocco (sp?) and Woog when it comes to dealing with a Gopher loss. First they say that this is a game the Goofs shouldn't have lost and then they proceed to a very fast sorrow stage usually signified by reminiscing over highlights of the plays that did them in, then they start pointing fingers (anger and some questioning) and then they talk about looking forward to next week (acceptance).

Could I be missing Massen?
-
Perhaps, but without Hale, who will take the slot he vacates? With this weekend's roster that went to Houghton, Marvin would get the slot and play forward and Greene would play D. Maybe I'm missing something.
-
Hale won't be playing which means Marvin or Palmo in game one. Dumb idea. Scott isn't like Brian Boyle of BC (all height and no weight). That's just stupid. JPar gets the shutout.
-
Why throw down with that giant? Geez
-
equalization penalty on Jones. Major is irrelevant now.
-
5 minute major on Helminen!
-
They were chanting overrated going on the commercial break? How can you be in last place and be overrated?
-
When JPar is playing, I have trouble figuring out which one has the puck at times. For example "Parise passes to Bochenski out of the zone" Which one? PP Sioux. They seem to be actually protecting ZPar

That's like a Police officer pulling you over and saying as he hands you a ticket, "Here is your speeding ticket, sir, but, you know, if you would have been speeding a quarter mile down the road, I wouldn't have stopped you." SiouxTupa: It isn't that uncommon. I /believe/ Al McInnis, Ray Bourque (when he was in the league), and Brett Hull enjoy using wood sticks. However, I'm not certain.

I think this is a good interview. Shark bite?
-
Greene isn't playing tonight. I think Marvin is playing in his stead.

Actually, I like this idea. A thread about the weekend's WCHA and other game updates. I don't want to promote updates from the BC/BU game for example, but if BC loses, that's a great thread to put the embarrassed BC team in their place. They havne't lost, but I can dream right? DOn't answer that. In any case, yeah, Sioux game threads should be for SIoux games and aftermaths. Other games should be updated on a seperate thread.

So MTU is doing what we should have done to begin with? Good for them. Imagine all the complaints from a FREE webcast. Looks foolish that way doesn't it? Webcast for UND: this year should have been free so they could gauge interest, showcase the product, and perfect the practice. Next year should be pay per view. Instead, they got a great fan interest and proceeds to difficulty and refund them right out of the program and they are not breaking even anyways. I'll be interested to see how much reenrollment there will be compared to the numbers this year. Although I don't want the program to disappear, I hope it is less than last year and that EVERYONE complains about it.
