  1. I disagree. You don't know diving unless you witnessed the BC and Yale series. That was some serious diving.
  2. I didn't put the WJC in the poll because then everyone would vote for that and no one would consider the others. Kinda pointless to have a poll when the answer is that blatently obvious Boucher's accomplishment was awesome. Forgot about that entirely. As for the Wild, I understand Roloson's selection. I mean, only the Sabres with Hasek was a team that more obviously was all about the goaltending because take Roloson and Fernandez out and they'll be rivaling Pittsburgh for bleak this year. That's why I was impressed. More sarcastic impressed than anything. The Wild could really use opening the coin purse a little bit and bringing in at least one big name to bolster a young offense.
  3. True, and I apologize, but I remember the Jagr trade to the Caps. Everyone was saying how this was a BAD move by Pittsburgh and that it would result in the team falling to mediocrity. Now, seeing that the Caps didn't benefit from him very much and traded him, I said that the trade turned out for the better. True, the Penguins are now in mediocrity like the fans stated, but for very different reasons. No money = no players. No quality players = no veteran leadership. In other words, the Penguins couldnt do what has made the Devils so good if they tried because they can BARELY afford Fleury (some even say that they can't). They are going to have the #1 pick again this year and I bet you anything they won't be able to afford it. They can't even trade the pick away because the players that they'd deserve in return would cost too much. The Penguins, I'd hate to say, are done unless they get some sort of financial winfall or move to a more lucrative market (where?)
  4. I find 1-8 very impressive this year. It's been a LONG time since I made a poll, so why not have it on this?
  5. There are many. I'm from ND, go to UND, love college hockey, love the logo, love the arena (both old and new), acquainted with a few players (though only one on the current team ). My sister goes to UMN so I don't dislike the school itself. I am not sure I even dislike the team. I guess what it comes down to is that I dislike some of the chants, some of the fans, and some of the players (TAYLOR ). Oh, I root against them, but I really don't care when the Gophers aren't playing the Sioux. Right now I'll watch the Gophers over the Wild any day.
  6. According to POI, no current Sioux players allowed SiouxTupa
  7. Give me a break you guys. You all watched the game! The only player who dived is Jordan Parise. Geez. Get with the program.
  8. I just thought of something: Regardless of what the replay shows, I do not believe that the WCHA has an instant replay rule. Therefore, regardless of what was the actually point in which the puck hits the net, it wouldn't have mattered because it happened so fast and it did appear to Sheperd that it was touched by a high stick. I think that's the end of the discussion. Bad call or not, no instant replay rule would place it all on Sheperd so using replays to try to reason it is a pointless gesture.
  9. SCSU probably lost because they came onto the ice yesterday with your mentality, Goon Any team regardless of how bad can beat a superior one if they catch them off guard or just have a better game. Like the Gophers last night, or when Pittsburgh beat the Red Wings earlier this season. Sorry to whoever on this board is a Penguins fan, but they really do stink this year, but the good news is that it appears that getting rid of Jagr wasn't all that bad of a deal after all.
  10. Listen folks, why even go to POI? If I wanted Gopher fans' opinions, I generally listen to three of them that just so happen to frequent this board.
  11. Bah about the POI thread. I think they all have Parise envy. It's not like Parise is special or recieving special attention by POI. After all, if Vanek was a Sioux and Parise was a Gopher, the thread would be on how overrated Vanek is. Nothing about the actual player. More like to vent about the Gophers not sweeping this weekend after they showed us a thing or three on Saturday.
  12. I'm starting to wonder if you are as neurotic about your car as my friend is about his. He has a Pontiac Grand Prix (yeah, a Grand stinking Prix) that he goes nuts over if someone, oh, touches the windows from the inside when there is condensation on the windows, heaven forbit you playce something on the roof, even if it is a drink from McDonalds.
  13. I admit that I agreed with Goon for a little while last night, but for different reasons. I thought Sheperd wanted the split so that he could give Lucia his 400th at hime in front of a sold out crowd against one of the top two heated rivals of the Gophers. Then I realized that the wave-off was a good call by Sheperd and that they play the Badgers at home next weekend so my reasoning was off. That's why I deleted my earlier post saying that. Thanks to sprig, Scooby, and PCM for correcting me. Although not all of the correcting was done here.
  14. I didn't think Woog was all that bad from what little I listened to the broadcast. They did get riled up about a few noncalls but never once questioned the noncalls that would have gone against the Gophers, but that's par for the course with them. Taylor was cheap all weekend long. Prpich was cheap for one game. No excuses for either of them. The thing to note was that, at least for a time, Woog thought Brandt was the goalie last night. All in all, I think Parise needed this start and this outcome. We needed to know how he would handle a game against an opponent that could beat us at a time when it really matters. No, he didn't win, but it isn't like we helped him any. I also had the honor of finding someone who thinks both Parises suck because they don't fight enough. Trying to get a rise out of me I'm sure, but he's been saying that all year. Anyone know how I can arrange for my friend to say that to Zach or Jordan's face?
  15. What happened to Grant? I didn't see any injury
  16. All I can say is congrats to Lucia compliments of Sheperd. Sheperd wanted a split badly so that he could give Minnesota's coach his 400th at home. Gophers played a good game all officiating aside. Murray scored the game tying goal since it bounced off a Gopher, but can't have that. A lot of make up calls. Prpich is the player that stuck out at me as being the worst Sioux player on the ice tonight. Although, his elbowing penalty was dangerous, I was pleased that Taylor took the hit. Can't feel too sorry for that cheap chump. Parise had a great game as did Murray and Lundbohm. Stafford looked strong on the ice. Greene had a pretty good series. So what happens now? Will we move down the polls?
  17. Gophers going East would benefit the Gophers too much. Also, it's not in the best interest of ESPN as far as the Frozen Four. If the WCHA knocks out all of the HEA and ECAC opponents, we may lose airtime. If it happens to feature two WCHA teams in the FF NC game, I would expect the same ESPN interest as the UND vs GVSU DII NC game.
  18. We're 2nd in the WCHA in PP? I think I need to rethink my beliefs on our power play unit. I could have swore we weren't that great on the PP.
  19. I am not criticizing Vanek on his offensive prowess. He DID in fact to an excellent job last night OFFENSIVELY. I am just saying that hockey is a TEAM sport and Vanek does not appear to be a team player. Sure he is a great scorer, but he is a defensive liability. He needs to step up and play 2 way hockey or he's going to be riding the fourth line for the Sabres.
  20. I think it would be funny if Sioux fans through Official USA Hockey rulebooks onto the ice at Sheperd at Mariucci Spearing is spearing is spearing is spearing. Period. if Bo was diving, and I don't believe he was, then Sheperd should have given Bo a penalty for unsportsmanlike (2 minutes) and Taylor a 5 minute major (maybe a misconduct) for spearing. However, I think we did get away with a minor call on Canady earlier in the game, so WPoS is half right. Canady should have gotten at least a double minor for either checking from behind or boarding. This is why I would suspect Massen will play and Hale will play for Canady.
  21. I was impressed by Vanek's defensive prowess last night. I can sum it up in one word: LIABILITY He just sits there on the blue line and waits for his teammates to break up the play and make an outlet pass. That's not defense at all, that's just stupid. If Parise did that game in and game out, I am unsure how much ice time he'd have. Let POI rip Brandt a new one. They are just letting off steam because they lost. Apart from the rivalry, the Sioux should sweep on paper as it goes without saying (on paper) that the #1 team should be better than the #5 (unless you are talking college football )
  22. Saw replays and it was interesting. Genoway gets called for slashing the stick behind the play and Bochenski gets speared. What probably happened is that Taylor noticed that none of the officiating crew was looking their way and so he got to take a cheap shot. Just like when Ballard ran Bochenski down after he shot the puck over the boards. The rule of the WCHA states that if you can get away with a cheap shot without fear of official retaliation, you can do it. Parise was the subject in the first period, Bochenski and Murray for the rest of the game. The real questionable call stemmed from Taylor (Gosh he seems awfully involved don't you think?) beating Murray in the corner. He rightfully drew a double minor for his part, but Murray somehow managed to get penalized. How? Equity I'm sure. Schneider was penalized rightfully for retaliating on behalf of Murray. Now the murky part is that there should have been a Gopher power play (4x3) resulting from this and then, after two minutes, a Sioux 5x4 penalty (which would have resulted in a 5x3 for a little over 1.5 minutes thanks to Guyer's cheap shot on Brandt). Instead they started out 5x5 and served all the penalties anyways. Very odd. My explanation that I thought of only would explain the first two minutes and even that would be wrong. I said it was coincidental penalities, which would put the teams both at full strength, but how can a double minor be coincidental? And how can Schneider's retaliation be coincidental? I've seen worse officiating but Parise, Murray, and BOchenski need to be careful tonight.
