As I said before, it was an issue. Not anymore due to no sanctions or naughty list.

The hockey team also has a 100 million dollar arena to sell and possibly the best history in the NCAA hockey. Football and basketball do not and have to fight for everything they get just to try and build their program. Anything that can be used against them is a problem. The conference and name issue were verified problems.

2007-2012. Once the Big Sky move was named it stopped alot of it. UND had the double whammy going against them with no conference and NCAA sanctions being levied if they didn't get approval from tribes. It was bad around 2010-2012. Local teams did whatever they could to "remind" recruits about all the issues up in Grand Forks. I don't think the name issue comes up anymore since the NCAA backed off.

What you want, an article? People can only relay what the actual coaching staff has told them.

University of North Dakota Hockey 2015-16 season
UND1983 replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
Five assistant captains? They should just tell us who isn't wearing the 'A'. Make it mean something. -
That is a great question and point. Five years from now if the NCAA said UND could get their Sioux nickname back due to tribes backing it, should UND stay unique and confident in their decision to be 'North Dakota'?

The only fan base (basically hockey fans) in the history of collegiate athletics where no nickname is good enough. Get over yourselves.
-
Why do they annoy the hell out of everyone with Lewis and Clark ads all summer? Cause they passed through ND? I didn't know the new name had to be someone/something that spent X amount of time in the state of ND (with X having a minimum). Better pick an animal then. The only other group that spent X amount of time in ND wants nothing to do with UND.

Really, LOL'd huh? Wish we could get a cool name like Sooners, Jackrabbits, Cyclones, Badgers, Gophers, Spartans, Wildcats (all 50 of them), Bobcats, or Tigers. Those are really cool nicknames (that everyone seems to think are actually good and are accepted).
-
And if their isn't a dirty connotation that can be applied to a name, it probably sucks. And if the name doesn't suck then it probably has already been used by somebody. And if..... We can go round and round forever. ITS A F'CKING NICKNAME. Get over yourselves. Pick a damn name and get this over with so the University and it's fans can move on and start investing our capital in something that matters.

What would make this whole process worth it is if they chose to stay 'North Dakota' after 6+ months and hundreds of thousands of dollars invested. Let's do that.

"New Americans" what do they bring to the table in the region
UND1983 replied to Redneksioux's topic in Community
What you said about their experiences before they arrived is 100% accurate and needs to be factored in. The people that came from Liberia, Eritrea, Ethopia, and Sudan all saw some bad stuff during the constant wars that were going on. I can say for fact that the ELL kids in local elementary schools are some of the nicest kids you will ever meet and most* have good parents that care. -
People who matter? Like you or who are you talking about?

Considering they don't sell the Sioux logo hardly anywhere now, it is not true that sales were sky high. Also, I assume that UND wants to make money in the future, correct? Sioux logo won't be available in the future so it might be hard to make money off of it.

Geez, Buck Up Butter Cup. You need more to worry about, wow.

Biggest drawback for each remaining name (final 15)
UND1983 replied to jimdahl's topic in UND Nickname
It seems as if nobody has ever addressed the final conclusion, which is the most important. Does Bob K. simply choose whatever got the most votes or is the popular voting (if that's the way we vote) just a piece of information for him to make a final decision? This is actually very important and hasn't been addressed to my knowledge. Anybody know the details? -

Next question; Once the last 3 are chosen, is it a popular vote via the internet to pick the name? And if so, are they really going to choose whatever name gets the most votes? -

They will say Riders - Lady Riders when referring to them on the radio, etc. Riders isn't a gender like orangeMEN. -

But the hockey faithful told us that having Karl on the committee will be awesome! A true hockey/Sioux guy. -

Instead of stupid comment, why not answer the question? At this point of this marathon process is it really worth making it last longer for no reason. -

If we are already forecasting that there may be issues with the NCAA because they are a fickle bunch why would we even waste our time? Why not get it done with once and for all the first time? -

UND1983 replied to jimdahl's topic in UND Nickname
Oh, so now people think we should let the vote decide and IF 'No Nickname' is picked, we should then see what the NCAA thinks. If they don't like it, then we should pick the second choice. That is some sound thinking. This is getting more stupid by the day. Please end the misery. -
Take that for whatever he will go to. Call Gate City if you have to.

Pretty much the entire football watching country, yes. I fully expect 20-30 million viewers for that opening game. Sincerely, Jeremy Jorgenson
