  1. Says the guy who apparently wants Wilford Brimley for our mascot.....yeah, that's fresh
  2. You could still make a pretty similar logo to the "faux" Hawk that is out there. Change the colors and a little bit of design work.
  3. True. But most people don't look 30 years ahead.
  4. Still 4th on my list* *final 5 committee selections only.....otherwise much lower
  5. Unfortunately they are kind of caught in a catch 22 right now. With Wisconsin and Michigan State at low points in their programs and Ohio State never really being 100% committed to winning, and Michigan a little down when the Big 10 conference began playing hockey that left Penn State who is doing things right and building excitement around their program....but they are a new program with some growing pains and Minnesota who was and is one of the premier programs in college hockey to carry the flag. The first season was mediocre as a conference and last season was a complete disaster so now they are at the point where these kids that are being recruited and worried about their development and listening to their "family advisors" are thinking twice about the Big 10 as they won't be facing top competition as often as they would in Hockey East and the NCHC. With the conference on a definite down cycle right now the best thing that could happen would be for a few additional schools to add hockey to build some excitement. Every other school in the conference has at least 1 if not 2 club hockey teams currently. Iowa has quite a few USHL teams and Lincoln draws extremely well so Iowa and Nebraska would be naturals as would Illinois and Indiana.
  6. same here
  7. Well if you are in Minnesota and tell someone you are from North Dakota, they might say Nodak huh? But if you cut them off in traffic and they see your ND plates it's fu$&ing Nodak. Kind of like my friends in Bismarck used to do during the Class b basketball tourney when you inevitably met traffic going the wrong way on the one way streets...fu$&ing B-sters......having lived in Hillsboro, Litchville, and Linton before moving to Bismarck I of course didn't comment.
  8. I was told there would be no math?
  9. Excuse me but only Nodaks can call each other Nodaks. #nodaklivesmatter
  10. Let's take a more realistic look at the vote just so we know how popular the new name will be and why I say that none of the remaining names are strong enough to have the staying power to be around in 10 years......we will have a different name than what comes out of this fiasco whether that happens by a voting process or a groundswell of support after a name organically evolves like this one should have been allowed to do. Fighting Hawks......8.7% Roughriders.....5.9% Nodaks......5.7% North Stars......4% Sundogs.......3.6% People wanting to remain North Dakota for now/People wanting to remain North Dakota forever/People that don't care/People that don't care for any of the crap names that were selected for them to vote on/others......72.1%
  11. Wilford Brimley is gonna be our mascot if Roughriders win? Sweet!
  12. I agree....kind of. Move the "Fighting" off of the Hawks and onto Nodaks. Replace it with Green or White or Prairie, cut roughriders and vote....OK, I know you can't cut roughriders but I would be fine with either of the other 2.
  13. Could be many reasons. Some kids develop later....see Ladue, Paul Several NHL players and current D1 College Kids went through the NAHL. Some spent there junior careers there, some moved "up" to USHL. A lot of kids choose to play there, especially if they are maybe a late developer or realize they are going to spend 2-3 years in Juniors in all likelihood. A good example would be Taylor Richart who is a senior at Miami.(friends with the family and have know Taylor since he was about 4 or 5). He played at Blaine and was a bit undersized coming out of high school he tried out for the Force his first year out of High School and had the opportunity to stay with them and he would have probably been in the 6th to 8th defensemen role for them that season. He also had tryout with Aberdeen in the NAHL and chose to go that route. He ended up playing on their top D pairing and getting plenty of time on power play and penalty kill. Played a top 4 role for the Force the following season and had a couple offers(Air Force and a couple Eastern Ivy League schools as he is a good student) and was planning on playing a 3rd year of juniors until Miami offered him after a summer showcase.
  14. I like the logo......but it would be an "expensive" logo for most apparel---expensive to produce and that makes it expensive to buy.
  15. Another way to look at it would be that 72% of the people didn't bother to vote since their selection was eliminated pre-vote.
  16. Wait. What? I thought they were all Team Nodak now? it really is hard to keep track
  17. Agree. I said when the Big 10 was formed for hockey that if in the next 4-5 years it doesn't result in the addition of several additional programs it will have been terrible for all of college .................................as opposed to those who declared immediately that it wrecked college hockey.
  18. 75% of the people could say that about any of the selections.
  19. I know you don't know much about college hockey so I'll help you out. There are 6 conferences in college hockey. The Big 10 was the 5th best conference of these 6 last season and while this season has to play out the best they could probably hope for would be to move past the WCHA for 4th.
  20. Well, these Vermont announcers would go with Nodak Nodaks if we had the name in place.
  21. Well they are actually shortening North Dakota to Nodak and/or reading the abbreviation off the scoreboard rather than using it as a nickname.
  22. Actually the reason Kelley didn't put North Dakota back on the ballot is because anyone with any awareness of reality knows that it would have easily won. I don't have a big problem with it not being on the ballot just wish they would have had the stones to announce this decision months before they did and explained the reasoning.....but anyone who thinks North Dakota wouldn't have won is being disingenuous at best or is completely tuned out to the surrounding world at worst in which case you may be qualified to be a President of a University(see Kelley, Robert and Bresciani, Dean)
  23. Stanford Cardinal Harvard Crimson Alabama Crimson Tide University of North Dakota Kelly
  24. I don't know if these numbers are as large as you think they are? For example. In the years leading up to UND losing the Fighting Sioux name, UND was receiving about $280,000/year from the sale of licensed apparel and gear. When it became apparent that the name was going away, these numbers jumped to $624,000(2011), $606,000(2012), and $520,000(2013). I would guess that in the first year of a new logo/name that UND could expect to maybe see $300,000 but after that I would imagine the money from licensing will drop down well below the $200,000/year mark. As a point of reference, another school just 70 miles away was receiving about $140,000/year from the sale of licensed apparel and gear until they had some incredible success on the football field and with a few of their other sports and spiked to $418,000 in 2013 and $488,000 in 2014.
