I realize you are an interested observer(i.e., non-alum, non-student, non-stakeholder, non-faculty) in UND's Name and as such you should do a little less typing and a lot more reading and observing. Thank you now.

Going back and creating a process to choose a new nickname? Yes without a doubt that is what is best for UND. The first try failed. Learn from it and try again.

I agree. I never said UND cannot be the Roughriders? It is 1 of 2 names left that I could live with. Like it...no, love it....no. Live with it...I guess

Idiotic take. I have gear with UND, and North Dakota, and Fighting Sioux on it. I will continue to wear these items to UND sporting events in the future. Doesn't matter if we decide to go with THE University of North Dakota or one of the crappy names we have left to choose from. I will also continue to buy apparel with UND and The University of North Dakota, and the interlocking UND on it but would never buy anything with a new logo or name on it due to the steaming pile we have left(I am assuming North Stars won't be the choice) to choose from. I was and am in favor of choosing a new nickname. Unfortunately the process failed this time, rewind a bit and get it right so we don't do this again in 5 years. As far as cheering I would imagine myself and others will still be cheering "Let Go Sioux" for the next 20-30 years but that would happen whether we remain just North Dakota or choose a crappy nickname.

Marquette. If you think that the make-up of fans at UND sporting events is really going to change much over the next 5-10 years you are mistaken. And quit including GF Central in the conversation.....it has no relevance.

Tell the NCAA we have chosen to be referred to as The University of North Dakota. Everything else you said is the same.

What if UND chooses a !@#!$, completely unacceptable nickname of which currently make up 60% of the remaining selections. Is UND complicit then in choosing a name so bad that the UND fans continue on as if we hadn't chose a name and/or continue to refer to UND as the Sioux?

A ranking of what is left. Scale of 1-10 Nodaks-2.....just sounds too hokey North Stars-8.....the best of the "names" on the list by far......but it is a neighboring state's nickname Fighting Hawks-4.....would have been better to just go with Green, White, Night, or Prairie Sun Dogs-0......I challenge anyone to come up with a worse name. This was the joke 3 years ago as in "well we better come up with a decent name or we will end up with something stupid like sundogs" Roughriders-5......generic North Dakota-7 A ranking of the last discarded names. Blaze-1 Cavalry-4 Explorers-7......great marketing and logo potential Fighting Green-0 Force-3...... Green Hawks-5 Pride-2 Spirit-1 Thunderhawks-4.....although pretty similar to United Tribes Technical College nickname.

Didn't say they needed to hit reset. Said they should hit reset. If you push through a name that over half the people with a vested interest are against it will be a disaster.

How about we rewind, bring back about 7-8 names that were discarded back to the mix of crap that is left. Bring in some people and companies that deal with promoting and creating logos and brand marketing. Have them and the committee again narrow it down to 5 or 6.(include just North Dakota as an option.....I think after the next few steps it would fall out of the running) Have these marketing companies go back to their offices and have their teams put together some logo ideas and marketing concepts and create image branding campaigns. Put these best ideas together and then present these logos and concepts to the public.(the idea to pick just a name and then worry about the important stuff has to be one of the most incompetent plans ever put together by someone with more than a 9th grade education.) I think when people see the marketing plans and logos created that 'North Dakota" would likely fall in popularity. I know many on here like to group all those who are currently in favor of continuing to use "North Dakota" as "Sioux Forever" people. I and many others that favor using North Dakota as a name for now are doing so because it is the best choice of what is left at this point. This is where a Leader has to say we had a flawed and failed process and make the corrections vs. the awe, !@#$ it lets just ram it though.

I also noticed from pictures of the Mens basketball team from Europe that they still seem to be looking like a NIke team.

I believe Todd LaHaise owns the Buffalo Wild Wings in Fargo, Bismarck, Grand Forks, Brookings, and possibly Sioux Falls and he is a UND grad.
