  1. So President Kelley needs remove Sun Dogs, Nodaks, and Fighting Hawks or UND could face NCAA sanctions. See how this works?
  2. What if UND chooses a !@#!$, completely unacceptable nickname of which currently make up 60% of the remaining selections. Is UND complicit then in choosing a name so bad that the UND fans continue on as if we hadn't chose a name and/or continue to refer to UND as the Sioux?
  3. A ranking of what is left. Scale of 1-10 Nodaks-2.....just sounds too hokey North Stars-8.....the best of the "names" on the list by far......but it is a neighboring state's nickname Fighting Hawks-4.....would have been better to just go with Green, White, Night, or Prairie Sun Dogs-0......I challenge anyone to come up with a worse name. This was the joke 3 years ago as in "well we better come up with a decent name or we will end up with something stupid like sundogs" Roughriders-5......generic North Dakota-7 A ranking of the last discarded names. Blaze-1 Cavalry-4 Explorers-7......great marketing and logo potential Fighting Green-0 Force-3...... Green Hawks-5 Pride-2 Spirit-1 Thunderhawks-4.....although pretty similar to United Tribes Technical College nickname.
  4. And yet you keep coming back here?
  5. Didn't say they needed to hit reset. Said they should hit reset. If you push through a name that over half the people with a vested interest are against it will be a disaster.
  6. How about we rewind, bring back about 7-8 names that were discarded back to the mix of crap that is left. Bring in some people and companies that deal with promoting and creating logos and brand marketing. Have them and the committee again narrow it down to 5 or 6.(include just North Dakota as an option.....I think after the next few steps it would fall out of the running) Have these marketing companies go back to their offices and have their teams put together some logo ideas and marketing concepts and create image branding campaigns. Put these best ideas together and then present these logos and concepts to the public.(the idea to pick just a name and then worry about the important stuff has to be one of the most incompetent plans ever put together by someone with more than a 9th grade education.) I think when people see the marketing plans and logos created that 'North Dakota" would likely fall in popularity. I know many on here like to group all those who are currently in favor of continuing to use "North Dakota" as "Sioux Forever" people. I and many others that favor using North Dakota as a name for now are doing so because it is the best choice of what is left at this point. This is where a Leader has to say we had a flawed and failed process and make the corrections vs. the awe, !@#$ it lets just ram it though.
  7. Going back and creating a process to choose a new nickname? Yes without a doubt that is what is best for UND. The first try failed. Learn from it and try again.
  8. I also noticed from pictures of the Mens basketball team from Europe that they still seem to be looking like a NIke team.
  9. I believe Todd LaHaise owns the Buffalo Wild Wings in Fargo, Bismarck, Grand Forks, Brookings, and possibly Sioux Falls and he is a UND grad.
  10. Buffalo Wild Wings....and thank you in advance!
  11. And businesses aren't just going to run themselves.
  12. At the risk of repeating myself. It really is just the rotten 1000's of Bison fans that ruin it for the other 11.
  13. If UND announces that we will go by THE University of North Dakota and some fans continue to use the "Fighting Sioux" on their own without the Universities sanctioning I think that is a free speech case that even Stenehjem couldn't screw up. To reiterate, I am in favor of choosing a new name if something comes up that makes sense. We just wasted a lot of time and effort and unfortunately the result failed. Rework the process, let Kelly leave and who knows under competent leadership if could happen. Forcing a name that will be hated by well over 50% is not the ideal end result. Time to cut bait for the next round.
  14. So if we have a new name and fans chant for the Sioux and if we decide to be referred to as The University of North Dakota and fans chant for the Sioux these are different? Got it.
  15. And what will the response be if UND does choose a new name and the fans still cheer "Lets go Sioux". I also like how the NCAA puts it on "other schools" complaining like this was an issue before the NCAA made it one.
  16. In Fargo Romos Moes Chipolte Pancheros Qdoba
  17. Welp. Can't be roughriders anymore. Teddy R killed over 500 animals on safari including 17 Lions, 11 elephants, and 20 rhinos for shits and giggles.
  18. Hammer is a good football announcer, hockey....not so much. Sweeney is average at Hockey and I don't believe I have ever heard him do football. Jack Michaels is pretty good on football. For baseball, Jack is truly on another level. I thought Jack did a great job for UND but I never did like the whole set-up of having our Play by Play guy pimp Bison football all week....but Jack was absolutely as professional as one could be with those circumstances. Just don't let Pat do any interviews or interact with people as those are usually all kinds of awkward.....just make you cringe to watch.
  19. Yeah. I think if you are going to protest about wanting The name to be UND you should wear gear to reflect that.
  20. These late departures have to be a little troubling. I heard through the grapevine that we may not be totally out of the woods yet either.
  21. Well he could show a little leadership.... Take responsibility and say we had a plan and it didn't give us the result we had hoped for. A good leader pulls the plug on a bad idea and regroups and comes up with a better idea. Thank the consultant for their help and tell them their services are no longer needed. Announce that he would like to ask the committee to stay on for another 45-60 days if they could. Bring in the Presidents or head marketing people from Scheels, Follet(who runs UND's bookstore), and a couple local Apparel Marketing Companies. Appoint one of these people as the new leader of the committee. Announce that the 5 remaining names are still under consideration but the committee and new key people will also be taking a look at some previously discarded names and open the possibility that a couple more may be added by the committee if they see fit. Thank the people for their input and to stay tuned! Have the new committee go through the names that make the list......do NOT make the new list public at this point. Should be down to 12-15 at this point. A couple days in, have a press conference and explain that we will be picking a new name at the end of this process and that remaining North Dakota will not be an option. Be prepared to explain why...do not be wishy washy, OWN it. Once the committee has pared the list down to 6 or 8 names, release these names to the public if you feel you must(I wouldn't at this point). Do some polling among Faculty, Alumni, Stakeholders, and students. Pare the list down to 3 or 4 and have the Apparel companies on the committee and other prominent ones in the area put together logo concepts, marketing ideas and design ideas. At this point have the committee pick 2 or 3 with the logos and marketing plans for you for to either A. Choose one and explain the logo and what it means and why it was chosen. B. Put them to a public or stakeholder vote if you are comfortable with living with the result. This can only be done if you are down to 2 selections. Have press conference to announce New name and logo with some apparel ready to go at the UND bookstore! It ain't rocket science people.
  22. Yep. Pretty much everyone I went to school with and am still in contact with. 84-90.
  23. Kelley dropped the ball on this from the beginning as most in Academia are tone deaf to how things in the real world actually work. I said this about a month ago Should have just had the committee formed, left out the wasted money on the consultants and brought in a few people locally with experience in the marketing business like UND alum Jason Loney of Scheels who has a little experience with Pro and College licensing and a couple key people from any of the following large regional companies whose job is to work with logos and designs like CI Apparel, S&S(Brad Ness is another alum), Lake Shirts, etc.(I left out a couple companies including mine). Narrow it down to 3 or 4 acceptable choices and have those companies go back to their marketing people and art staffs and come up with some concepts and ideas rather than pick a name and then say "welp lets see what we can come up with" They gather the info, discuss it and announce a name and explain why they chose that name and it's over. Now they are going to end up with a name that the majority of people do not want since they dangled out the possibility of going by the current status quo of being The University of North Dakota and that is the most popular choice among the people who truly matter. Absolute transparency isn't always the best thing when you involve the general public due to the 7 out of 10 rule. And back in September I had posted this The fact that there doesn't seem to be anyone on the committee with a marketing background or experience in collegiate licensing is more than a little troubling. With companies in the area like Lake Shirts(Blue 84), CI Sport, Coaches Choice(in full disclosure, my employer and a big NDSU supporter), and even S&S Promotions. One would think they could find someone like a Rick Fletcher from CI whose company works with collegiate licenses all over the country and would have valuable input into what works and what doesn't from a marketing and logo standpoint, or a Brad Ness from S&S who currently have the Green and White clothing line and I believe is a UND alum, or my brother who was a collegiate buyer for Scheels for 10+ years and has worked with colleges and licenses all over the country for Coaches Choice and is also a UND grad or Jason Loney from Scheels who is also a UND grad would make sense. I was right then and I am right now. Keep the committee if you want, tell the consultant to go kick rocks.....this could be done in under a month since they don't have to start from square 1. Take a look at the original entrants and go from there. I would guess that more from the discarded list than the current list would make final 5.
