  1. In Fargo Romos Moes Chipolte Pancheros Qdoba
  2. Welp. Can't be roughriders anymore. Teddy R killed over 500 animals on safari including 17 Lions, 11 elephants, and 20 rhinos for shits and giggles.
  3. Hammer is a good football announcer, hockey....not so much. Sweeney is average at Hockey and I don't believe I have ever heard him do football. Jack Michaels is pretty good on football. For baseball, Jack is truly on another level. I thought Jack did a great job for UND but I never did like the whole set-up of having our Play by Play guy pimp Bison football all week....but Jack was absolutely as professional as one could be with those circumstances. Just don't let Pat do any interviews or interact with people as those are usually all kinds of awkward.....just make you cringe to watch.
  4. Yeah. I think if you are going to protest about wanting The name to be UND you should wear gear to reflect that.
  5. These late departures have to be a little troubling. I heard through the grapevine that we may not be totally out of the woods yet either.
  6. Well he could show a little leadership.... Take responsibility and say we had a plan and it didn't give us the result we had hoped for. A good leader pulls the plug on a bad idea and regroups and comes up with a better idea. Thank the consultant for their help and tell them their services are no longer needed. Announce that he would like to ask the committee to stay on for another 45-60 days if they could. Bring in the Presidents or head marketing people from Scheels, Follet(who runs UND's bookstore), and a couple local Apparel Marketing Companies. Appoint one of these people as the new leader of the committee. Announce that the 5 remaining names are still under consideration but the committee and new key people will also be taking a look at some previously discarded names and open the possibility that a couple more may be added by the committee if they see fit. Thank the people for their input and to stay tuned! Have the new committee go through the names that make the list......do NOT make the new list public at this point. Should be down to 12-15 at this point. A couple days in, have a press conference and explain that we will be picking a new name at the end of this process and that remaining North Dakota will not be an option. Be prepared to explain why...do not be wishy washy, OWN it. Once the committee has pared the list down to 6 or 8 names, release these names to the public if you feel you must(I wouldn't at this point). Do some polling among Faculty, Alumni, Stakeholders, and students. Pare the list down to 3 or 4 and have the Apparel companies on the committee and other prominent ones in the area put together logo concepts, marketing ideas and design ideas. At this point have the committee pick 2 or 3 with the logos and marketing plans for you for to either A. Choose one and explain the logo and what it means and why it was chosen. B. Put them to a public or stakeholder vote if you are comfortable with living with the result. This can only be done if you are down to 2 selections. Have press conference to announce New name and logo with some apparel ready to go at the UND bookstore! It ain't rocket science people.
  7. Yep. Pretty much everyone I went to school with and am still in contact with. 84-90.
  8. Kelley dropped the ball on this from the beginning as most in Academia are tone deaf to how things in the real world actually work. I said this about a month ago Should have just had the committee formed, left out the wasted money on the consultants and brought in a few people locally with experience in the marketing business like UND alum Jason Loney of Scheels who has a little experience with Pro and College licensing and a couple key people from any of the following large regional companies whose job is to work with logos and designs like CI Apparel, S&S(Brad Ness is another alum), Lake Shirts, etc.(I left out a couple companies including mine). Narrow it down to 3 or 4 acceptable choices and have those companies go back to their marketing people and art staffs and come up with some concepts and ideas rather than pick a name and then say "welp lets see what we can come up with" They gather the info, discuss it and announce a name and explain why they chose that name and it's over. Now they are going to end up with a name that the majority of people do not want since they dangled out the possibility of going by the current status quo of being The University of North Dakota and that is the most popular choice among the people who truly matter. Absolute transparency isn't always the best thing when you involve the general public due to the 7 out of 10 rule. And back in September I had posted this The fact that there doesn't seem to be anyone on the committee with a marketing background or experience in collegiate licensing is more than a little troubling. With companies in the area like Lake Shirts(Blue 84), CI Sport, Coaches Choice(in full disclosure, my employer and a big NDSU supporter), and even S&S Promotions. One would think they could find someone like a Rick Fletcher from CI whose company works with collegiate licenses all over the country and would have valuable input into what works and what doesn't from a marketing and logo standpoint, or a Brad Ness from S&S who currently have the Green and White clothing line and I believe is a UND alum, or my brother who was a collegiate buyer for Scheels for 10+ years and has worked with colleges and licenses all over the country for Coaches Choice and is also a UND grad or Jason Loney from Scheels who is also a UND grad would make sense. I was right then and I am right now. Keep the committee if you want, tell the consultant to go kick rocks.....this could be done in under a month since they don't have to start from square 1. Take a look at the original entrants and go from there. I would guess that more from the discarded list than the current list would make final 5.
  9. It wouldn't need one. The only question would be is if the mercy rule or running clock was in effect.
  10. this^^^^I am in the "North Dakota" camp not the "Fighing Sioux Forever" camp although some of the geniuses on here don't think that is possible. We went through the process of coming up with a unique name that would get people excited about a new moniker and identity......well, despite the best efforts of some on the committee, the process failed to obtain an acceptable result so now they want us to say aw !@#$ it, it's good enough when we should have the common sense to A---scrap it and start over or B--table it for now or C--take another look at some of the names that were put in the scrap pile because there were certainly 10-12 names that were scrapped that had some imagination and marketing possibilities and uniqueness to them and were far better than what is left.
  11. Good questions. I don't really put much stock into any of the polls that are done online and/or by the papers....it's not like anyone has hired a polling firm. So I have my thoughts and those of my friends that I went to school with that I see on occasion and others that I interact with through social media. So in looking at my fellow UND attending friends I would say it is about 95% of them are in favor of remaining North Dakota.
  12. I have signed. While I can appreciate the thought, efforts, and time put in by those on the committee to choose a new name for the University I think in looking at where we are in the process and at what is left we have to step back and admit that despite the efforts it just didn't happen. Remain "North Dakota" for now and likely over time a name or concept will organically evolve. This isn't about being the de facto Fighting Sioux.....that is going to happen whether we go with Roughriders, North Stars, or remain North Dakota. This is about a process that failed to find a suitable replacement, whether it was set up to fail or manipulated to fail or just failed on it's own doesn't matter at this point, the bottom line is it did.
  13. I think the passion is stronger here than at Marquette and they are over 20 years since they dropped Warriors and most of their Alum and even students still consider them the Warriors. of course they went with a generic "add color" "add bird" nickname which I am sure is a mistake that we won't ......err, nevermind
  14. Well there was a Beaver College in Pennsylvania.....key word is WAS
  15. Wow. Nothing like comparing apples and orang.......err elephants.
  16. maybe they could hire some people to come in and break and steal stuff....that usually works.
  17. Being the only school without a name would certainly be unique although I admit clothing and merchandise would be a challenge although you could definitely work with the idea of not having a name for awhile. We could prepare a statement for broadcasters to help them explain it when we are on TV and or radio....they could repeat it as often as they like during the broadcast. The University of North Dakota of course used to be known as The Fighting Sioux until the overreaching, corrupt, immoral, unethical, racist organization known as the National Collegiate Athletic Association decided to stick their nose where it didn't belong and told UND as well as the very people who the school was named after and who were very much in favor of the name being retained that they had to drop the name. UND has chosen to move forward without a name for now.
  18. And if you go to a game, about half of their fans and even students who weren't even alive when they were the Warriors are adorned in Warrior gear. I have asked many people "Quick, tell me the name of Marquette's athletic teams and they either can't answer or say Warriors"....try it on an college sports fan.
  19. So that is the new goal. Pick a new name, it won't be so bad.I will always be a UND fan and will buy "UND" apparel as long as it doesn't have a lame name on it. The Wild are one of my favorite(#3) NHL teams and I cheer for them but it doesn't change the fact that "Wild" was, is, and will continue to be a horrible name.
  20. This^^^When they reduced the list to 60 something they had 3 or 4 names in the list that might have had a chance to be unique and catch on.....and then they were gone.
  21. From the GF Herald article. UND Professor John Bridewell, on the other hand, was one of seven committee members who ranked it as their least favorite option and said faculty didn't want to move forward with that. "President Kelley, if we send him North Dakota, no nickname, I think he could just disband the committee or just say we could start over or he could just veto it," Bridewell said. This would be the best option right now. We are left with Roughriders....borderline top 100 from original list Nodaks....seriously? Sundogs....should have been one of first casualties, not in top 1000 Fighting Hawks.....safe generic choice, doesn't meet ANY of the supposed criteria. Nice logo opportunities though. North Stars.....great name, cool logo opportunities which is probably why our neighbors use it for their state motto.
