  1. Hermantown scores a weak one early in the 2nd.
  2. Real nice play on the 2nd goal for EGF Bowen to Tweten to Monda on the backdoor. Webber has been very solid in EGF really calm and always seems to be in good position. Big for EGF to get the early lead and then go up by 2 with Hermantown losing 5 straight championships you know that impacts the mental side of things when you fall behind again.
  3. Lakeville North scores 4 in the 3rd to defeat Eden Prairie 6-2 and stay undefeated we will see tomorrow night if Duluth East has one more big upset left in them.
  4. Lakeville North and Eden Prairie are tied at 2 after 2. Has been a very good game so far EP with the 23-13 shot advantage.
  5. #1 Lakeville North against #5 Eden Prairie is underway. Lots of committed talent in this one with 8 committed players. Lakeville North has the 3 Poehling's(SCSU), Edquist(MN), Sadek(MN), and McNelly(UNO) and Eden Prairie having Mittlestadt(MN) and Graham(UMD).
  6. Watching Edina play again tonight I really like the freshman defenseman Clayton Phillips. He was their best defensemen yesterday against Bemidji and I thought he was their best player on the ice tonight against Duluth East. Very impressive player who is only gonna get better.
  7. 3.7 secs left the whole X except the Edina fans are up cheering as the game ends. Hounds win 3-1 over Edina, East has upset probably the 2 most hated teams in Minnesota the last 2 day in STA and Edina. This East team that was around .500 in the regular season and most people thought they wouldn't get past Grand Rapids in the section semis but their goalie was outstanding and then they had to come back from down 3-0 against Elk River in the section championship.
  8. Nice road win Zane was solid again and I thought we did a pretty good job of limiting quality chances. Seemed like we had a lot of troubling controlling the puck tonight as it. Liked the physical style tonight and the edge the team had really thought Olson established that even though he was called for a weal penalty on the hit. Johnson brought some good offensive chances including the good shot that hit the post and played with right on the edge but hard for me to fault him for what happened at the end of the 2nd period Miami was running interference all night and it happened again on that play and he just decided he wasn't gonna take it on that play I do wish somebody would have went after that 3rd guy in from Miami though. The OD-Gaarder-Pogo line was great again tonight and Pogo is another kid who is getting better every game. Anyone get a look at the chance that Schmaltz set up where the announcers thought it went in? Surprised they didn't at least show us a replay of that. Miami fans must not be very knowledgeable I laughed when they would boo and want a penalty called every time their players would dive.
  9. Duluth East is leading Edina 2-1 with 8 minutes left in the 3rd
  10. I've liked Loven for a long time and thought he has been right with Tweten for EGF's 2nd best player behind Bowen. I definitely think he will end up D1 player and I believe he has already been drafted by Lincoln in the USHL. Webber is a solid goalie and I think he will get junior looks after high school but playing against and then watching Zane in high school I think Zane was a better goalie at the same stage and probably a bigger goalie as well. One big difference is a lot of times Zane faced 25-30+ shots a game while Webber usually faces around 20. I remember the one game where I think Zane was a Soph. playing Warroad in the section semis in TRF where it went to 2 or 3 OTs and Zane absolutely stood on his head and was really the only reason the game wasn't a 4-5 goal margin. I hope EGF can get some early chances and test Hermantown's goalie early because I'm not sure how good he really is if EGF plays like they did today I like their chances.
  11. Hermantown wins 2-0 over Apollo setting up a Hermantown and EGF showdown for the 2nd year in a row.
  12. Hermantown leads 1-0 after 2
  13. Not sure what game they were watching EGF played good physical hockey nothing wrong with that and it really looked to frustrate Mahtomedi. EGF even got hit with a couple of weak penalties because of Mahtomedi embellishment. Mahtomedi was the team that only really went after guys if they had their head down and they could put their stick or elbow right in the helmet or started after the whistle stuff always throwing an extra cross check or punch but somehow never had to kill a penalty.
  14. #1 Hermantown 0 #5 St. Cloud Apollo 0 after 1. Apollo will open the 2nd with about 1:50 remaining on a powerplay.
  15. Actually EGF was 3-1 against Red River and Central this year with the only loss being early in the year like you said 5-0 to Red River. EGF started their backup goalie that game and gave up 3 goals on 6 shots before being pulled. EGF beat Central 6-3 and 4-2 and beat Red River 4-1.
  16. FINAL #3 EGF 5 #2 Mahtomedi 2 EGF returns to the State Championship. EGF was the better team all game but really dominated the 3rd period holding Mahtomedi to only 4 shots final shots were EGF 33 Mahtomedi 20. I thought North Dakota high school hockey was catching up but after watching the state tournament last weekend and now watching Minnesota's state tournament this week there is a long way to go. There are maybe a couple North Dakota teams who could be competitive in Class A but I'm not sure if they would even make the state tournament unless they were put in one of the weaker sections. I don't think North Dakota high school hockey will ever get to the Minnesota level but it can keep growing and get more competitive.
  17. Mahtomedi's goalie is coming up huge right now EGF putting tons of pressure on and getting some great chances. EGF 4 Mahtomedi 2 7 minutes remaining. EDIT: Austin Monda tips in a shot off the faceoff for a 5-2 EGF lead with 6:30 left
  18. Trevor Selk in his first game back from injury puts EGF up 4-2 with about 13 minutes left Selk showed some great patience there taking a pass from Bowen and walking in from the blue line beating the goalie high.
  19. Agreed they could easily move up with their enrollment. Their fans must not be real smart either chanting at EGF "where's your fans?" and "Overrated" during the 2nd period the overrated chant doesn't make any sense since EGF is the #3 and Mahtomedi is the #2 and it was a tie game at the time in the 2nd period. EGF 3 Mahtomedi 2 after 2
  20. Loven again to get the hat trick after Bowen was stopped on a good chance 3-2 EGF late in the 2nd.
  21. Mahtomedi ties it at 2 really a classic Northern vs. Metro battle. Very fast and physical battle getting chippy at times.
  22. Loven gets his 2nd right out of the TV timeout 2-1 EGF.
  23. EGF putting on a lot of pressure almost midway through the 2nd Bowen just missed the top corner on a 2-on-1, Loven is denied walking down the slot, and EGF had Mahtomedi trapped in their own zone for a good minute and a half.
  24. EGF and Mahtomedi tied at 1 after 1. Great atmosphere sounds like the upper bowl of the X has already been opened up and a great first period filled with speed, physical play, and end to end action. EGF got a goal from Grant Loven on a 2-on-1 and Mahtomedi scored on their 1st powerplay. Mahtomedi will open up the 2nd with about 4 seconds remaining on a 5-on-3 powerplay, EGF was called for 3 penalties in the 1st while Mahtomedi was not called for any. Big positive for EGF is their top defenseman Trevor Selk is back from injury today and you can see the difference he makes to their group.
