Changes to the NCAA Regionals/Tournament and other miscellaneous stuff
SiouxScore replied to cberkas's topic in Men's Hockey
I am too, my guess is a lot of the smaller schools think their best chance to win is to play at a site with no atmosphere and not a lot of people in attendance and that is why they want to keep it as is. Even if they don't want it at home sites there should be some sort of change and more of a reward for getting a #1 seed. I mean what kind of reward was it for Miami to have to play Providence in Providence. Maybe the #1 seed gets to host at a suitable arena close to the school for us it could be Fargo, Minnesota would have the X, Providence would have the arena the regional was at this year, etc. I noticed 2 NCHC teams voted for the change so I wonder who the other one was besides UND. I also wonder who the other teams were to vote to change the regionals I would guess Minnesota was one as I believe Lucia has spoken out against the current system a few times. -
What do you mean exactly by move on? Whether the name changes or not there will still be many including myself that will always think of and refer to the University of North Dakota as the Fighting Sioux. There will also be some people that will say we should have never officially got rid of the Fighting Sioux name and just because there is officially a new nickname doesn't mean some people will move on from that opinion.

I know the MSHSL adopted it as an official sport in the last maybe 5 years and it is growing I'm just not a huge fan of the sport personally. I'm only in my 20's and don't really know anyone who is a lacrosse fan. I'm not sure if there are any high school/youth programs in northern Minnesota I believe most of the programs are metro area schools. The question is would people come watch and support it at UND or would it just be another thing that you lose money on.
-
I'd much rather have baseball and women's hockey than any kind of lacrosse, actually I'd prefer pretty much anything to lacrosse.
-
Hadn't heard that my friends and I have joked around before that they just looked at the payroll and threw the 5 highest paid players out their for the 1st powerplay unit for most of the season no matter whether the powerplay was producing or not.
-
They have a pretty good group of core guys in their early-mid 20's Granlund, Zucker, Nino, Coyle, Haula, Brodin, Dumba, Scandella, and Spurgeon. One thing I'd like to see going forward is Yeo to use these players more and have a little more trust in them. Having Pomminvillle on the point on the powerplay when he really struggled back there and Suter who isn't a great powerplay guy over guys like Dumba and Scandella never really made sense to me. I'll be interested to see what kind of moves Fletcher pulls off this offseason I could see him trying to move guys like Pomminville and Spurgeon can't imagine many moves in free agency besides getting Dubnyk signed. With not a whole lot of losses expected off this roster I would expect the Wild to contend again next year and hopefully take the next step.
-
Wild just never looked capable of putting together a complete performance and playing at a high level consistently in this series. Hawks were the better team really taking advantage of Wild giveaways all series and were much better finishing on their chances.
-
Believe Koivu only had something like 2 points in all those series combined as well.
-
Dubnyk was great in the 2nd half and real solid in the St. Louis series but after this series the Wild will have to be wondering a little more about just what kind of contract and how much they are willing to pay him.
-
There have been a lot of guys who have been pretty useless this series for the Wild and a most of them are the highest paid guys. Pomminville, Vanek, Koivu, and Suter have been some of the most notable guys struggling.
-
Good thing Yeo didn't opt for Ryan Carter again over Haula.
-
The Wild have to be one of the worst teams in the NHL on breakaway and odd man rush situations. Dubnyk hasn't been great at all this series can't afford to give up 2 goals like he has tonight especially when your team is struggling to finish chances.
-
That draft pick was like a 2017 2nd round pick so if Toronto was willing to take something that far into the future I'm sure he would be happy to make that move.
-
I know you are probably joking but I'm sure Toronto would want too many of their young players and not sure the Wild would even have the cap space. If Toronto would take something like Pomminville plus a prospect for Kessel I would make that move in a heartbeat however I doubt that is something that would interest them. Pomminville has been a frustrating player for me this year and especially in the playoffs missing the net and whiffing on so many chances set up by Granlund and Parise.
-
I wouldn't mind that signing at all they don't have a whole lot of prospects on the left side. The #1 thing for the Wild as soon as the season is over will be getting an extension done with Dubnyk and I would hope they have already had talks with his agent.
-
Agreed with the amount of time that was put into it they sure didn't get much out of it. I wonder how much money they wasted on this investigation. I'm not a Patriots fan at all but this whole thing seemed like one big waste of time to me.
-
Wild had some good chances but couldn't finish them and Crawford was pretty solid tonight. Dubnyk was very good for most of the game but the one that went in is one you shouldn't give up especially in the playoffs. Wild might win game 4 but can't see them coming back and they're going to have to take a long hard look at this team in the offseason. Koivu isn't a number 1 center on a good team anymore and maybe never was. They still lack guys that have great finishing ability and maybe the only one on the current team that I would put in that category is Zucker. One guy I would maybe look to move for a top 2 line center would be Pomminville a guy who was supposed to be that type of goal scorer but for as many chances as he gets doesn't finish on near enough of them.
-
Good start from the Wild but then they got back to what killed them in games 1 & 2 with the careless turnovers. Dubnyk was solid but you can't give that goal up. The 4th line hasn't been good all series but looks even worse tonight with the addition of Carter in place of Haula. Would be nice to just once see the Wild stand up and do something when someone takes a late slash or little hit to one of their teammates like what happened at the end of the period.
-
In this phase there were 13 full rounds before some teams started passing on their picks but a few teams are actually still drafting in the 22nd round right now.
-
He hasn't been too bad so far. He hasn't been able to put the puck in the net which is what the Wild need from him but he has created some good chances and just not finished hitting a few posts in the Blues series. He did have 2 assists in game 1 against Chicago so hopefully that gets him going.
-
Biggest key for the Wild the rest of the series is to cut down on the giveaways. Way too many giveaways through the first 2 games especially tonight and many of them are coming in the defensive zone or just outside the defensive blue line. The Blackhawks are a very good transition team you can't afford to just keep giving the puck away.
-
He makes some plays that you wonder wow how did he pull that off and he will also make some that you wonder what the heck was he thinking. He was brought in primarily as another scorer and after a very slow start his production wasn't too bad with 21 goals and 31 assists. Some people freak out over every little thing with him and I think those people had the expectation that he was gonna come in and be the best player on the team which wasn't realistic at this point in his career. For me he has produced pretty much the way I thought he would and I don't mind him at all although at times he does get a little lazy which is frustrating.
-
Quite honestly I'd like to see them put another one in next game in Schroeder for Cooke. Haula has looked pretty solid tonight finally getting a chance to get back in the lineup.
-
Not a good play by Vanek to try to force that pass especially late but Suter has to be more aware the Hawks love the stretch pass.
