  1. Should be a lot of options. If they look outside of UND connections I wouldn't mind going after Mark Osiecki. If they look for someone with UND ties there would be lots of directions they could go but maybe a little bit of a surprise name would be EGF head coach Tyler Palmiscino.
  2. I like the Berry pick keeps things nice and stable. Hopefully Jackson will be back with him and it will be interesting to see who they go after for the other assistant spot.
  3. The difference is the hockey job is a consensus top 5 job in the country while the football job is at best a mid level FCS job. Coaches are probably a little bit more willing to throw their name in the hat even if they know it will be reported when it is one of the top jobs. I don't think it will matter anyway as I would guess Berry will be named coach before the end of the week. EDIT: Looks like it will be before the end of the day, press conference at 1 and Schloss reporting it will be Berry.
  4. Brad E. Schlossman ‏@SchlossmanGF 1m1 minute ago Hearing that Brad Berry is very likely to be the next UND men's head hockey coach.
  5. I think if you promote Berry or Jackson that is how you will experience the least amount of roster shakeup. Berry and Jackson have recruited many of these guys and already have built relationships with them. If you bring someone from the outside in and for whatever reason Berry and Jackson are also gone then recruits and players have no relationship with the coaching staff and that is often when they decide to explore other options.
  6. Probably depends on who the replacement is. If Berry or Jackson are hired or at the very least kept as assistants I don't think we would lose a whole lot.
  7. If either have a chance to be the head coach at UND instead which I would think they do I'm sure they would jump at that opportunity.
  8. Don't like this at all but that seems to be the way that everybody found out.
  9. Really shocked to see Hakstol make the jump but best of luck to him. My guess is they will hire a new coach within the next couple weeks and that person will have ties to the program I'd guess Brad Berry. I also think if you hire Berry or Jackson you keep the recruits/team together and that is a key. Hopefully right now our current coaches are calling/meeting with current players and recruits.
  10. Wouldn't be surprised if Gardner ends up not coming in this season and plays a year in Fargo. I think one interesting thing to see right away is if Hak opts to balance things out a little and use Caggiula, Schmaltz, and Johnson all centering different lines or if he decides to have one play wing and kind of load up 2 lines. If he opts to keep all 3 at center: Gersich-Schmaltz-Wilkie Chyzk-Caggiula-Boeser Simonson-Johnson-Poganski Janatuinen/Murphy-St.Clair-Olson Ausmus-Stecher Thompson-LaDue Shaw/Wolanin-Poolman Johnson/Tomek Johnson/Tomek Hrynkiw Extra: F's-Gornall,Sanderson,Janatuinen/Murphy D-Shaw/Wolanin,Chartrand
  11. C-Stecher A-Caggiula A-Ausmus A-LaDue if he is back St.Clair if he isn't
  12. I think in terms of talent/skill he was NHL ready but I still wasn't completely sold he would go pro unless we would have won the National Championship. With the uncharacteristic play from him in the National Championship I actually thought it was more likely he would be back because I didn't think he would want to go out that way but he had a great season and was the top goalie in college hockey so hard to really blame him just because he didn't bring UND the championship he and his teammates set out to. I wouldn't be surprised if a big part of what made his decision was the opportunity to win a job in Boston right away after they lost their backup goaltender. I know there is a lot of hype surrounding this NAHL goalie but I would be very surprised if there isn't a drop off in play from our goaltending next year my hope is that our offense can produce a little better and neutralize that some.
  13. EGF Hockey‏@EastSideHockey 28m28 minutes ago Congrats to Colton Poolman on committing to the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux! Didn't get to see any of him in the USHL this year but really liked him in high school. Good skater that can bring some offense but also very responsible defensively.
  14. Always figured he would be back but good to know for sure. I've always figured Jordan would sign but hopefully we don't lose anybody else. With the question mark in net probably will have to rely on the offense a little more.
  15. Brad E. Schlossman ‏@SchlossmanGF 4m4 minutes ago UND goalie Zane McIntyre set to turn pro, advisor confirms http://bit.ly/1F5cIBI Hopefully Johnson and/or Tomek can step in and give us what we need. Goaltending goes from a position where you basically knew exactly what you would get every night to the biggest question mark for next season.
  16. Elliotte Friedman ‏@FriedgeHNIC 3m3 minutes ago Hearing UND G Zane McIntyre plans to go pro...has ability to become a free agent, but word is he wants to sign w/BOS, which drafted him. Really hope not but he is probably ready.
  17. I am too, my guess is a lot of the smaller schools think their best chance to win is to play at a site with no atmosphere and not a lot of people in attendance and that is why they want to keep it as is. Even if they don't want it at home sites there should be some sort of change and more of a reward for getting a #1 seed. I mean what kind of reward was it for Miami to have to play Providence in Providence. Maybe the #1 seed gets to host at a suitable arena close to the school for us it could be Fargo, Minnesota would have the X, Providence would have the arena the regional was at this year, etc. I noticed 2 NCHC teams voted for the change so I wonder who the other one was besides UND. I also wonder who the other teams were to vote to change the regionals I would guess Minnesota was one as I believe Lucia has spoken out against the current system a few times.
  18. What do you mean exactly by move on? Whether the name changes or not there will still be many including myself that will always think of and refer to the University of North Dakota as the Fighting Sioux. There will also be some people that will say we should have never officially got rid of the Fighting Sioux name and just because there is officially a new nickname doesn't mean some people will move on from that opinion.
  19. I know the MSHSL adopted it as an official sport in the last maybe 5 years and it is growing I'm just not a huge fan of the sport personally. I'm only in my 20's and don't really know anyone who is a lacrosse fan. I'm not sure if there are any high school/youth programs in northern Minnesota I believe most of the programs are metro area schools. The question is would people come watch and support it at UND or would it just be another thing that you lose money on.
  20. I'd much rather have baseball and women's hockey than any kind of lacrosse, actually I'd prefer pretty much anything to lacrosse.
  21. Hadn't heard that my friends and I have joked around before that they just looked at the payroll and threw the 5 highest paid players out their for the 1st powerplay unit for most of the season no matter whether the powerplay was producing or not.
  22. They have a pretty good group of core guys in their early-mid 20's Granlund, Zucker, Nino, Coyle, Haula, Brodin, Dumba, Scandella, and Spurgeon. One thing I'd like to see going forward is Yeo to use these players more and have a little more trust in them. Having Pomminvillle on the point on the powerplay when he really struggled back there and Suter who isn't a great powerplay guy over guys like Dumba and Scandella never really made sense to me. I'll be interested to see what kind of moves Fletcher pulls off this offseason I could see him trying to move guys like Pomminville and Spurgeon can't imagine many moves in free agency besides getting Dubnyk signed. With not a whole lot of losses expected off this roster I would expect the Wild to contend again next year and hopefully take the next step.
  23. Wild just never looked capable of putting together a complete performance and playing at a high level consistently in this series. Hawks were the better team really taking advantage of Wild giveaways all series and were much better finishing on their chances.
  24. Believe Koivu only had something like 2 points in all those series combined as well.
  25. Dubnyk was great in the 2nd half and real solid in the St. Louis series but after this series the Wild will have to be wondering a little more about just what kind of contract and how much they are willing to pay him.
