Philip Nelson leaving Minnesota football program
SiouxScore replied to UND-FB-FAN's topic in Football
Gophers probably would have beat NDSU by a couple scores because it would have been tough for NDSU to run the ball and Jensen doesn't win many games having to throw a lot. Jensen is like a worse version of Greg Mcleroy to me and has looked better because of the team around him and makes to many mistakes to be a NFL player. Leidner has a strong arm and has developed into a dual threat and will be a good QB for the Gophers. I think Molberg has potential and do know he had interest from those schools but also never got an offer although some would argue that Iowa only didn't offer because of his injury his SR season. Might be hard for Molberg to really see how much he has progressed because there very well may be less talent on this next Sioux team than last years. -

Haha this must be some sort of joke I think I'll trust recruiting services, Jerry Kill, and many other people who believe the same as me rather than your opinion. Leidner, Nelson, or even Streeveler who they redshirted this year would have played over any NDSU or UND QB. Let me guess NDSU would have beat Minnesota this year too? Jensen was a product of a good team around him but often times that team had to overcome his mistakes. -

You are crazy if you think Molberg is better than either of the guys the Gophers had this year. Just from watching a lot of both play this year I can't agree with that statement especially when you consider the difference in competition level as well. As for Nelson he struggled with accuracy a bunch and was probably lucky he got as many chances as he did. Even though he said the reason for transferring was wanting to pass more which doesn't really make sense because that seemed like his weakest asset many people believe he feared competition and Leidner had already passed him up and the RS Fresh Streeveler may have been gonna pass him up on the depth chart too. -
Was wondering who that forward was and never did see a number, Pattyn really put Ausmus in a tough spot on that one and there wasn't much for him to do with the puck there. Agree with everything you said and think Zane might have been a little surprised on the goal and was thinking the BSU player was gonna make some kind of move with the puck and instead he just snapped the shot off right away

Disappointed to not come away with a better result but this really wasn't a bad game from the Sioux. Lots of chances and have to capitalize on more of them, I believe Schmaltz and Grimaldi both had a post and Rodwell and Parks were both stopped on semi breakaways. Typical BSU game they sat back and waited for mistakes and when they got one they took advantage of it. Reffing really benefited BSU tonight too with the hooking and holding really not being called at all. Would think if the same effort is brought tomorrow that the guys find a way to finish a few more chances and get the win.

Yeah that is what I meant I should of wrote it out or at least put a dash or something in to make it less confusing.

I asked Schloss in the herald chat last week and he thought Mantha would probably play another year in the USHL. He thought the guys that will be in for sure next year are forwards Schmaltz, Olson, and Simonson, D Poolman, and G Johnson. He said the questionable ones will be Gersich, Poganski, and Wilkie but if any of them come I would guess it would be Gersich. Also wonder about some who have been committed but not really produced like Voltin and Rowe and if they will ever make it to UND.

On Gopherhole a poster said Ryan James who is a MN recruiting expert and usually very accurate said that Shanks was denied admission to Minnesota and it sounds like it is harder to get a walk-on in if they don't meet the requirements. Probably not a big loss for Minnesota since they will still have 2 senior C's next year but could be a huge gain for UND at the start of the conference season next year.
-
It usually isn't real hard to pull a few strings to make sure an athlete gets admitted especially at a major school and if the athlete has had decent grades at a previous college. I would be very surprised if Shanks wasn't admitted to Minnesota although the opportunity to play right away would probably be higher at UND and there would be a guarantee of a scholarship from UND while he would have to earn it at Minnesota.
-
I don't know could be lots of reasons maybe he just wanted a free trip to experience a game, maybe he wanted to watch a friend on the team? Maybe he ends up not getting admitted to Minnesota but the interview was on Friday and in the interview he said he should know later this week but I wouldn't think they would let him know on a Saturday and he would quickly schedule a trip to UND that same day. I would guess that UND is his fall back option if he doesn't get in but that he probably doesn't know yet if he has or has not actually been admitted.
-
I wouldn't count on Shanks to UND, here is an interview he just did on Friday and it sounds like he is pretty confident he will be a Gopher unless he doesn't get admitted and that would be pretty surprising based on what I've heard about him. http://www.gopherhole.com/news_article/show/326556?referrer_id=388419

Looked like there was a recruit on the bench pregame, seemed like he had good size anybody see who it might be or where he was from?

Solid win but still need to put together a full 60 minutes. Need to do a better job clearing the traffic in front of Zane tonight as I believe all CC's goals involved traffic and he usually makes the save on most of what he can see. CC really got in lanes and blocked a lot of shots, Thorimbert also made a couple real good saves and got help from a post or two. Need another win tonight and hoping for a full 60 minutes.

Seems like he should have some intangibles and good hockey sense as I would guess he's been around a lot of hockey during his life so far with his dad working in it. I would estimate he would probably be a 15/16 or 16/17 arrival on campus.

Chris Dilks @ChrisDilks Adam Tambellini has 3 points two periods into his WHL career. Had 4 in 16 games at the NCAA level. It's not so bad dining at the kiddy table
-
Grades or just not liking school and deciding he didn't want to deal with it anymore was my first thought.
-
I liked Tambo and thought he is a kid who would greatly benefit from the college weights program and really improve as his career went on. My first thought when I saw that he has decided to leave the program was could he have trouble with school or just not like school and decided he didn't wanna deal with it.

What did you think of #7 Kieffer Bellows (Soph) of Edina? I haven't seen him but have heard he is really good and gonna be another great player to come out of Edina.
-
Roth is the smaller one and is pretty good with the puck but I wasn't really impressed with anything else he did. Bethune is more of an all around player that has great offensive ability, he can play a physical and power style at times too.
-
Think a lot of teams were very interested in Bethune and I would have liked him at UND but I am a little surprised that Roth had an offer already at his size even though he has put up a lot of points. I've watched them a few times and Bethune is definitely the better player and I kind of wonder if UMD offered Roth partly to have a better chance to get Bethune.

Don't like losing any game but really not gonna worry about this loss at all because it is an exhibition and doesn't have any effect on the season. Kind of expected the team to not be up for this game at all but I still was hoping they could find a way to win. Fully expect the team to bounce back tonight against a bad team tonight but I won't put much stock into it as well because it doesn't mean anything again.

I'll go with Rodwell and I don't really care if we keep it going or end it either.

Nice to see the all the former college players on the U.S. team, by my count 12 former WCHA players on the team. -
I think Voltin is still young enough where he is a guy who could be pushed back another year and still play in the USHL but I'm not sure if Rowe still can although I think he is one they may like to push back. The article says Simonson will come next season and I would think Olson and Schmaltz would be the two that are definitely here next season. The rest of the committed forwards would probably be pushed back to the year after although I believe Wilkie signed a NLI and that usually means the player will be here the next season.
