Nationally, FCS and D-1 hockey are at about the same place, both incredibly far behind MBB and FBS football, but have their cult-like followings. Nothing wrong with that, it is what it is. The delusion comes from the fans of each one who fail to grasp their actual place. Comparing college football isn't accurate because most people don't care about FCS. Using NHL players or hockey's worldwide popularity isn't accurate because most people don't care about college hockey. UND would get a ton more attention then either with a good showing in the MBB NCAA tournament and it isn't even close. These arguments make UND fans look stupid. Let's leave that to the "We Want 'Bama" geniuses to the south.

UND FIGHTING HAWKS vs. DU Pioneers - SATURDAY Gameday
jdub27 replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
I think it would be tough to get corporate sponsors when they aren't allowed to advertise at the event. They cover up all advertising along the boards and in the arena. It's about as sterile as possible in the venue. Plus I'm sure the NCAA makes sure they get their (large) cut of any sponsorships used to get the event here. -
Seems odd but given that he is the reigning MVFC coach of the year, he should be the front runner. Can't imagine the friction that it will cause if he doesn't get it though.

UND FIGHTING HAWKS vs. DU Pioneers - SATURDAY Gameday
jdub27 replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Hockey is terrible to watch in a football arena. Does the Alerus Center even have the necessary capabilities to host it? If so, they'd have to buy a ton of new equipment that would get used maybe once or twice. The place already has a hard enough time making money. -
They are implementing it in basketball for 2016 and then the rest of the sports as the funds become available (likely by 2017).
-
Isn't that the second or third recruit they have offered after they have verbally committed to UND?
-
I think your overestimating what it is doing to UNI. I also get a kick out of the reasoning that it is some sort of huge advantage because UNI has to spend time preparing for two quarterbacks. Doesn't it have a similar effect on NDSU since they have two guys splitting first team reps, one who's never faced UNI or a defense that good and another who hasn't taken a snap in two months?

University of North Dakota Hockey 2015-16 season
jdub27 replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
You described a bunch of changes and then pointed to a new coach as the only variable that was replaced. Seems contradictory. -
Exactly and I feel pretty comfortable stating the majority of those who made the threats didn't donate to begin with. While not the only way to donate, when cross-referencing the names from letters to the editor or from social media with the Champions Club list, there wasn't a whole lot of matches.
-
Stakeholders have already started withholding donations because of a nickname that has been in place less than 3 weeks? Is this similar to the threats from people who claimed they would quit donating if UND retired the Fighting Sioux nickname yet even after it happened, the Champions Club has managed to have record donations year after year and UND exceeded a $300 million fundraising campaign goal by $30 million? Zero percent chance of this happening.

Have never stated I loved him (nor am I his wife or brother for that matter). I've stated I believe he's coaching for his job and without a pretty good showing, there's a good chance it is his final year on the bench for UND. I said the same thing on Mussman. He did just enough to get an extension and it didn't work but he wasn't going to be let go with multiple years remaining on his contract. Of course it is, but there's still a budget and it doesn't have a ton of room to pay two head coaches for multiple years which is why it wasn't likely that he was going to be let go with multiple years remaining on his contract. This is fair. Guessing there was a concession on the salary for an additional year or two on the extension, which in hindsight was a roll of the dice that did not work out.

Some real ugly stretches of basketball, but nice to see team pull it off, especially after going down 10. Baldwin had a good game. Crandall has a lot of talent but needs to play more under control and not fall everywhere any time he takes a jump shot. Still lots of work that needs to be done, but at this point, any win is a good win, especially on the road.
-
I am not sure I've ever seen a quarterback look that bad. His throws weren't even in the same zip code even when there was no pressure on him.
-
Are you going step up and announce you are contributing to help fund the the buyout? Or are you just venting because UND got a non-conference road win when you predicted that wouldn't have any the rest of the season?
-
I was trying to figure out what that was, makes sense now. Any idea what the first part of that cheer was?
-
I've had issues with this before as well, was the same last season. Not sure why it wasn't fixed.
-
Like I said, it was the overwhelming minority, but there were people saying Hawks instead of Sioux. No doubt they were overpowered by those that haven't started to move on and that was expected, but I saw and heard it myself.
-
It was a real proud moment to watch a bunch of adults of all ages throwing what was the equivalent of a public temper tantrum. "Fighting Sioux Forever"? Not a single player on the team and I would assume at least 95%+ of students in attendance were enrolled the last time UND wore the Fighting Sioux jersey. Will never happen, but playing this song at the first break after people boo would be some Grade A trolling:
-
Turns out he only got activated because third string running back missed curfew and was cut.
-
I would disagree. Definitely heard some Hawk related things and Schlossman's article also referenced it as well, though it was admittedly in the minority. Wouldn't expect anything different, the change will be gradual.

My guess is that the fees the REA gets for people using Ticketma$ter to resell them is pretty minimal (couple bucks a ticket at most). I agree in that I don't think it is a problem, it is probably more of an awareness type thing along with the REA getting tired of taking calls and telling people there isn't any tickets available while having a general idea of how many aren't being used on any given night. While I agree and that is typically how I've done it in the past, there are a lot of people who don't trust craigslist. The Ticket Exchange is 100% guaranteed and more convenient (not having to meet, exchange money, etc), which is important to a lot of people. The one issue I have is that it does not allow you to list your tickets for lower than what the face value is on Ticketmaster, meaning you can't undercut any available tickets that haven't been sold yet, especially if you're looking to get rid of your tickets on short notice. If you're really worried about tickets being used, let people sell them for as little as they want. I will say that the ability to forward your tickets to someone for free is very handy.

I can confirm that he is usually there if the men's team is in town, same as the other coaches.
-
Someone needs to tell them here is zero chance of an at large bid and quality losses aren't going to help them.
-
Congrats on accomplishing the first step. I'm sure it was tough to admit to.
