  1. The reasoning of why a third one was added doesn't bother me all that much (despite not caring for Nodaks at all). What does bother me is that there has been no clarification I have seen that confirms a nickname can now win with less than 50% of the vote. I think that is important and should be required even if it would require a third round of voting.
  2. That would be a nice change of pace.

  4. Don't flatter yourself, jim keeps track of those for me (and everyone else). That being said, I think you're misjudging the "RR" crowd. The majority of people I've talked to will support UND regardless of what the final nickname will be. The only group I've seen that have threatened to quit supporting the University is a faction of the "Fighting Sioux" only crowd who have openly stated to stop cheering and supporting UND (donations). Some of that crowd has merged into the "no nickname" and now Nodaks crowd. Comments on the Herald's website verify it. Again just a faction, but it is not a made-up boogeyman. I've stated multiple times that my preferred nicknames were eliminated long ago. At that point my preference was for UND to pick a nickname that was the most marketable and was the most helpful in distancing themselves from the continued controversy that the Fighting Sioux nickname (unfortunately) caused. In my opinion, Nodaks comes in last in both of those two categories. Just for fun, in early May I predicted the three finalists to be Roughriders, Stars and Sundogs/Spirit/Flame/inanimate object. Again, with 60+ left remaining none of those were in my top 3 but it is how I saw everything playing out.
  5. Padilla was hired to consult with the committee but I didn't think a marketing team/firm had been selected to help once a name is selected.
  6. Looking at how many tickets are left for each game, I think I see why they gave up on their policy.
  7. The majority inside of the GGF don't either.
  8. The plan isthat turnaround will be very quick and done within a week or two. I haven't heard anything that would indicate that has changed.
  9. Will UND move out of the 3-4 and into a nickel to help with pass coverage? Does UND have a nickel package?
  10. It wasn't a try at anything, I was honestly curious. Reading some of the comments from this summer are all around hilarious, you just happened to make a list and the one you voted for wasn't even in your top 3.
  11. Interesting to see the turnaround in a couple of very vocal Nodak supporters. Honestly curious what changed in the last few months.

    2015 season

They match when you see them in person.
  13. Western Illinois on the road to Cedar Falls beat the same team that NDSU squeaked by in Fargo the week before. After the showing NDSU put up last week, I wouldn't mark down any sure wins, especially with a QB that has zero experience. Not saying that their season is even close to over, but pump the brakes a little bit.
  14. Because it isn't the same? Nodaks is the option, not North Dakotans. On top of it, it isn't Grand Forks Nodaks. If you want a true comparison: Texas Tex's sounds as terrible as University of North Dakota Nodaks or the Redundant Redundancies.
  15. I was more referring to this summer. Not a coincidence that their opinions have been dialed back.
  16. Their comments on social media throughout this process paints a different picture.
  17. Yeah, if only UND knew something about setting goals and then surpassing them...
  18. The GM of the arena however did publicly state his opinion on the radio.
  19. The Herald is really digging deep:
  20. NDSU basketball draws somewhere around 15% of the crowds as football, the support isn't even in the same stratosphere. Again, it isn't a UND specific problem, but pretending it doesn't exist doesn't make it any better. And I think you're misguided on your comments on football or basketball fans. I would venture to guess the majority of those either have season hockey tickets or attend quite a few games. The reverse is nowhere close to true.
  21. NDSU's basketball team has done more than a fair share of winning but the majority of their fan's treat the program like a red-headed stepchild, not to mention some of their very successful women's programs that get zero support. I'm not sure why pointing out that there is a large faction of fans that support one sport and could not care less what happens to rest seems to be such a controversial topic. It is true and it isn't unique to UND other than the team that sees the support happens to be one that in the grand scheme of things is likely either second or even third in terms of exposure that could be brought to UND with sustained success.
  22. I have no issues. I'm just confused that the defense for Nodaks is "Who would ever say University of North Dakota Nodaks".
  23. Your original question is who would say it. It's the name of the team, so everyone. If you have to think it through, you should probably just stop and move on.. And yes, anyone can say it pretty easily, that doesn't make it sound any less ridiculous.
