Finish fundraising for Phase I of the HPC. Start fundraising on Phase II of the HPC. Come up with buyout money for coaches. Last I checked, there is no money tree outside of the Hyslop, so if the money doesn't come from fans, I'm not sure where it is going to come from. It isn't going to come from the state, the athletics department just took on $1 million in extra expenses to help the University cover a portion of the budget cuts required and it isn't going to be any better next year not to mention raising funds for FCOA. I get the point that is trying to be made, yes it is Faison's job to deal with it but having the attitude that "It's not my problem, it's his" is a pretty embarrassing way to look at the situation. Just because something isn't public doesn't mean he isn't dealing with it, and part of dealing with it requires working within the budget constraints. Private donations were secured to help cover any shortfalls for buying out Mussman, it ended up only being under $50K but that's only because he got another job. Are there basketball boosters who are going to step up and do the same if necessary? Who said Faison was happy or satisfied? Who said I or anyone who actually brings up real life budget concerns are thrilled with results? You're so dead set that anyone who doesn't have a pitchfork in hand has to be defending Jones instead of actually trying to explain why something may or may not happen. The fact that there has been no extensions is pretty telling. There's a total of one poster who is actively defending Jones. That's it.

You didn't answer the question on how much "support" you've given the basketball team at the gate in and in concessions since my buddy Jones has been here though. Again, you aren't comprehending. If UND starts makes decisions based on other schools/conference results instead of what is best for UND given their set of circumstances, that is a major issue. If NDSU hadn't been successful the last few years, that doesn't changes the results UND has during Jones' tenure out outside of maybe 1 game a season (ironically enough UND absolutely destroyed NDSU's most successful team). As for supporting UND at the gate and concessions, how many basketball games have you attended in person since Jones has been the head coach? I'll also add that if you think the "checkbook" thing is silly, you really are out of touch with how college athletics and finances at the level UND is at works.

To this point, he's one of the lowest paid coach because he hasn't done anything to earn much of a raise from when he was hired and while managing to do enough to keep his job. Bang for buck shouldn't be the goal and I can say with confidence, that isn't what Jones nor Faison is thinking long-term. The basketball program, while definitely not at the top of the list in the athletic department priority, is most definitely on the radar and being monitored. The potential for revenue and exposure has huge upside however finding the right balance of costs and expenses to reach those is important.

What happens in the Summit has nothing to do with whatever coaching decisions Faison will make, if he's worrying about things he can't control, let alone something in another conference, then there are some serious issues. He can't convince everyone in the Summit to not do everything in their power to give games away, but maybe he can get in the ear of a Big Sky coaches and see if they want to give the strategy a whirl. I do find it amusing in multiple ways that you seem to care more than most of FargoU's football fans though. As one of the most vocal people on the situation, I assume you have your checkbook ready to help with the buyout, because there are actual things to consider in decision making besides how you feel about a coach while sitting at home. But I'm sure you won't actually comprehend that since you're already busy spinning it as me defending Jones instead of understanding the entire situation. Effort is pretty low on the list UND's problems this year but I guess it is an easy potshot to take.

Surprised Sanders made second team missing almost 40% of conference games. Yanku from NAU has a case for being snubbed. I don't think Drick did do enough to stand out (10.9 / 8.7), especially at the end of conference play. Bliznyuk from EWU (12.4 / 7.8 / 3.4) and Kaluna for NAU (12.9 / 7.1) had lines that were no pretty equivalent to Drick.

I don't think his point was that the risk of a new coach may or may not be worth the reward, it was the risk with that particular coach is nowhere near worth the reward. To the latter point, I agree.

This is about as accurate and level-headed of a take on the situation I've seen in a while. People can argue it all they want but the reality is, there is more to a decision than looking only at what happens on the court (which I don't think anyone would argue has had more disappointments than it should). It would be a tough call letting a coach go into a lame duck year but unless there is some sort of trade-off to give the appearance of a one year extension, this seems about right.

Being smug is more effective when you at least have partial knowledge of situations.

It wouldn't have been surprising for them to have some cuts as there were a lot of cuts made across the University as required by the governor. Athletics took on $1 million themselves. Those are all required by the Big Sky. The only sports that aren't are M&W hockey, M&W swimming and diving and baseball. If there are sports cut, look to that list for the options (while making sure to take Title IX into account).

Random because I don't believe the band or their budget falls under athletics though they obviously work closely together on a lot of things.

I'd argue that UND has been the third best team in the Big Sky since they joined, thus above average in conference. However the gap between where they are compared to Weber/UM is sizable and I've already said multiple times they need to make the jump and be there with those two every year. Again, there's a difference between stating a coach isn't going to be fired and saying they should or shouldn't be.

Really? Scheels sponsored it but it was most definitely an NDSU related event. Otherwise it'd be pretty strange that there were NDSU employees going around with the trophies and present at every stop, including Klieman in Fargo.

We have different definitions of what sticking up for someone actually means. Please point out where I praised him last season because I can't recall it. I've never advocated for him to receive an extension (though have recently stated what Faison's options might be). I was very specific in saying he wasn't going to get fired last season, again because I understand contracts and budgets (and I was correct for those reasons), but stating someone isn't going to lose their job isn't the same as saying they shouldn't. You live in Fargo, of course you're going to hear about NDSU.

Pointing out where UND stands in conference road wins since they joined to put things in perspective is not sticking up for the coach, it is pointing out actual numbers, especially when I stated they need to move out of the clear second tier into the first tier. Saying that a coach isn't going to be fired because of his contract situation isn't sticking up for him, it is having an understanding of results, college athletics and real life budget situations. Then mention a transitioning D-II team but then leave out that your time frame for judging UND/Jones is when they were exactly that for longer than they haven't been. I could not care less about NDSU, what I hate is that you will, without fail, bring them up. But since you did: Signature win is such a joke of a phrase, what does it even mean? They absolutely boat raced a team that made it to the round of 32 in the NCAA tournament and ended with an butRPI of 32. If you lose excitement over a team because of one game, look in the mirror, that's on you, not that coach. Was it a discouraging game? Of course, the team played like hot garbage, couldn't make a shot and made some incredibly dumb turnovers. Other than rambling and making your favorite go-to accusation of anyone who doesn't immediately want Jones run out of Grand Forks with pitchforks being his best friend/brother/relative/etc, you still didn't say what Jones should have done differently last night.

Looking at their road record this year, yes, get over them. Using them as an example doesn't help your point. I guess I haven't seen more about NDSU basketball than I have UND this season so I'm not even how to answer that. I fully believe the Big Sky is harder to win on the road in than the Summit, the travel is significantly different. I don't really care about OOC at this point. What exactly starts at the top? Let's be specific, what should Jones have done different last night?
