That was fun. Little lull, which is honestly tough to avoid when you're up that much and trying to milk the clock, but ending the game in something like a 14-1 run was nice, especially with Gene fouled out. Need that kind of shooting tomorrow. Hopefully McBuckets 2.0 and Baldwin feel comfortable in that the gym and can keep it up.

A great basketball mind told me that UND was going to work on taking advantage of the high post in ISSU's zone. Definitely seems to be the case.

I've been critical of him while also putting into context his finishes and the other things he has dealt with. Did I hope for better results? Of course. That is funny as hell coming from the guy who started the "Fire Jones" thread halfway through UND's second full D-1 season in a year they made the conference championship after making the semi's the first year. That's not even mentioning the multiple "Fire Muss" threads you started during UND's football transition. At least be consistent... Yes and I hope UND does as well. Let's see if Q can channel his inner Nate Wolters. I think the point being made is that some people were lauding Nagy while forgetting that there were SDSU fans calling for him to be fired well before he had a chance to make the NCAA tournament (I assume). Nagy obviously built up some goodwill in the D-II days that Jones didn't which likely played a big part in SDSU's decision making process.

He actually did Nagy a favor by inadvertently including SDSU's first year as a full D-1 school, it raised his winning percentage from 28.4% to 30.9%. It's not quite apples to apples because Nagy had quite a bit more time at SDSU before the transition, but if you count the four transition years and their first three years of D-1 play, Nag had a 79-131 record for a winning percentage of .376. For comparison, Jones record in that same time frame was 101-121 for a winning percentage of .455. Obviously Nagy had some pretty good years after that, having that Wolters kid blossom didn't hurt, but even if you include the 4th year out of transition for both schools (UND still obviously still having a few games left), Jones still has a higher winning percentage in that time frame, though that was the year Nagy punched his first ticket to the dance without even having come close prior. I'm not saying that one is better than the other, just laying out their records over a comparable time frame. There is no arguing that Nagy struggled big time during the transition and the first few years out of it.

The openly rooting for thing is interesting but I'd imagine Telfair and ISU would rather play a team they've beat by an average of 18.5 points in two meetings rather than a team they have lost to by an average of 12 in two meetings. UND held Telfair to 13 points on 5 of 15 shooting, do that again and I think they will be fine.

It would obviously depend on how the contract was set up but if I had to guess, I'd say they are working under the assumption that they will be.

You are correct, I finally found that it was a 5 year contract (and updated my original post). I think his actual base salary was actually only $102K, the $147K number included all benefits, etc.

He had one year left on his original five year contract. Not sure on the buyout amount but it was actually specifically stated that he wasn't let go after last year because of the cost of his buyout.

Bubba makes more but closer than one would think though part of the reason for that is Bubba requested a smaller salary and the difference between that and what he was offered instead be allocated to his assistant pool.

A lot of truth in this. It was ugly, they were down by more than the dreaded "5 points" they can't overcome and battled through early foul trouble but it was a win which is all that matters right now.

A lot of entitlement being spouted off. Everything's Faison's job and apparently fans have zero responsibility except complaining until they get everything they think they deserve. Finish fundraising for Phase I of the HPC. Start fundraising on Phase II of the HPC. Come up with buyout money for coaches. Last I checked, there is no money tree outside of the Hyslop, so if the money doesn't come from fans, I'm not sure where it is going to come from. It isn't going to come from the state, the athletics department just took on $1 million in extra expenses to help the University cover a portion of the budget cuts required and it isn't going to be any better next year not to mention raising funds for FCOA. I get the point that is trying to be made, yes it is Faison's job to deal with it but having the attitude that "It's not my problem, it's his" is a pretty embarrassing way to look at the situation. Just because something isn't public doesn't mean he isn't dealing with it, and part of dealing with it requires working within the budget constraints. Private donations were secured to help cover any shortfalls for buying out Mussman, it ended up only being under $50K but that's only because he got another job. Are there basketball boosters who are going to step up and do the same if necessary? Who said Faison was happy or satisfied? Who said I or anyone who actually brings up real life budget concerns are thrilled with results? You're so dead set that anyone who doesn't have a pitchfork in hand has to be defending Jones instead of actually trying to explain why something may or may not happen. The fact that there has been no extensions is pretty telling. There's a total of one poster who is actively defending Jones. That's it.

You didn't answer the question on how much "support" you've given the basketball team at the gate in and in concessions since my buddy Jones has been here though. Again, you aren't comprehending. If UND starts makes decisions based on other schools/conference results instead of what is best for UND given their set of circumstances, that is a major issue. If NDSU hadn't been successful the last few years, that doesn't changes the results UND has during Jones' tenure out outside of maybe 1 game a season (ironically enough UND absolutely destroyed NDSU's most successful team). As for supporting UND at the gate and concessions, how many basketball games have you attended in person since Jones has been the head coach? I'll also add that if you think the "checkbook" thing is silly, you really are out of touch with how college athletics and finances at the level UND is at works.

To this point, he's one of the lowest paid coach because he hasn't done anything to earn much of a raise from when he was hired and while managing to do enough to keep his job. Bang for buck shouldn't be the goal and I can say with confidence, that isn't what Jones nor Faison is thinking long-term. The basketball program, while definitely not at the top of the list in the athletic department priority, is most definitely on the radar and being monitored. The potential for revenue and exposure has huge upside however finding the right balance of costs and expenses to reach those is important.

What happens in the Summit has nothing to do with whatever coaching decisions Faison will make, if he's worrying about things he can't control, let alone something in another conference, then there are some serious issues. He can't convince everyone in the Summit to not do everything in their power to give games away, but maybe he can get in the ear of a Big Sky coaches and see if they want to give the strategy a whirl. I do find it amusing in multiple ways that you seem to care more than most of FargoU's football fans though. As one of the most vocal people on the situation, I assume you have your checkbook ready to help with the buyout, because there are actual things to consider in decision making besides how you feel about a coach while sitting at home. But I'm sure you won't actually comprehend that since you're already busy spinning it as me defending Jones instead of understanding the entire situation. Effort is pretty low on the list UND's problems this year but I guess it is an easy potshot to take.

Surprised Sanders made second team missing almost 40% of conference games. Yanku from NAU has a case for being snubbed. I don't think Drick did do enough to stand out (10.9 / 8.7), especially at the end of conference play. Bliznyuk from EWU (12.4 / 7.8 / 3.4) and Kaluna for NAU (12.9 / 7.1) had lines that were no pretty equivalent to Drick.
