2023-24 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
siouxforce19 replied to AlphaMikeFoxtrot's topic in Men's Hockey
I was just going to say this. I really don’t think there’s much of a chance he comes in 2025. The last time we brought in a true freshman at goalie it didn’t work out and it’s just pretty rare. I just find it to be a bad idea in general. I’m pretty sure we’ve gotta be looking for a guy to fill a spot until Heil is ready. -
Berg committed to Omaha super early if I recall. I believe he was playing in the Omaha Lancers AAA program at the time so he was already in proximity to UNO. Probably could have gotten on UND’s radar if he waited a bit longer back then.
-
It’d be nice if they were…
-
If someone could explain to me how we can stream CBS games on Paramount Plus I’d love to know. I have Paramount Plus and I could not find hockey on there the last time UND was on CBS.
-
I would be pretty confident that it’s an error. USHL also has had in the past Jake Schmaltz being Nick and Jordan’s brother and Cody Croal as being committed to Maine. They’re notorious for being inaccurate/not updated.
-
No. In the first year of the NCHC, when St Cloud won it, they were not a 1 seed. They ended up losing in the regional final to Minnesota, who was the 1 seed in that regional.

Their fans that I talk to have indicated they don’t do well against really aggressive teams, and seem to think they might be in some trouble. (I thought Miami was super aggressive. ) -
Considering the Carolina Hurricanes do not currently have an AHL affiliate and their prospects are scattered among several AHL teams, it would make more sense for Blake to stick around until his readiness to make an NHL roster is more obvious.

Pretty sure it’s mostly based on TV. So ESPN’s preference will be a factor. That’s why there was a push to get the off day because high seeds who should have been given the early game were given the late game for TV reasons, and then giving more rest to the lower seeds. I don’t think there’s any way to predict game times. -
Yes. Go to High Street and take your pick.

I think there’s no chance he plays even if he was close to a return. Especially with the bye week next week.

The problem with that is if the Hobey is supposed to go to the best player in college hockey the academic and off ice stuff should not be weighed more than on ice achievements. Seems like it was in Vesey’s case. 71 points vs 46 points? C’mon now. -

Yeah. That was when the committee decided to start giving out an award based on a career instead of the current season. In Connor’s case they gave it to Jimmy Vesey- he was a returning Hobey hat trick finalist but didn’t have anywhere close to the offensive production of Kyle Connor. -
It means they don’t know if someone else is healthy enough to play so there’s another skater in warmups just in case.
-
Considering our goalie had a .792 save percentage last night, I also am not surprised about the change.

That’s why I always question every year how good they are until about January. -
Unless Omaha makes it as a 4th seed. Since they are the host in Sioux Falls. If that happens I’d see us in MO if we are the overall #1.

A DU “fan” got in my mentions on Twitter/X and told me “a lot of teams do this celly.” Im not sure he could name those other teams…

Colton Poolman had the game winner in 3 on 3. It did not go to a shootout. Not sure where you got that from.
-
You missed the point. UND won in 3 on 3. Now, in the year 2023, 3 on 3 wins are considered actual wins. So if today’s rules were in effect back in 2019, it would have been a sweep.

Western’s schedule is pretty weak for non conference. Can only assume they must’ve had a hard time scheduling teams to play them this season if they are playing Lindenwood 4 times this year…
-
You must have missed the other thousand posts about this huh?

I will continue to wish for it. I already have ESPN+. Paying a separate overpriced subscription fee just for UND games is annoying. Plus all that would change with video and production is the app the games will be on. Home team still in charge of the stream. At least you get more to watch on ESPN besides UND games. More bang for your buck.

What’s a joke is that the NCHC discussed switching to ESPN a couple years ago and decided to stick with their own streaming service. I get that it makes them more money but from an exposure standpoint, it’s not going to do it. CBS Sports has also seemingly decreased the amount of televised games on that network every year, so they really should consider reevaluating that contract.
