Play calling could be better. The running game is going ok, the pass protection is none existent. So we run for 4 on first down, then pass on 2nd and 6 which forces a pass on third and six.

So the missed extra point has now cost us 3 points. Turned into a missed field goal.

The defense did nothing to bail him out after the turnover. Let them go right down the field for 7.

The refs aren’t helping but we are shooting ourselves in the foot. Dropping interceptions, missing tackles, and shanking extra points. Still we are only down 8. This next drive is very important to get points.

FWIW, If those were/are accurate odds for UND to win those games then the probable outcomes are: 3 Wins 0.7% 3 Losses 50.8% 2 Wins 1 Loss 9.3% 1 Win 2 Losses 39.2%

Three games: Boise State, SDSU, NDSU. Win all three and we have entered a new era. Lose all three and it will be the same old same old of mediocrity to not quite good enough. Win two out of three and we will have made significant progress and should be a realistic contender. Win one out of three and it gets muddled. Hard to tell where we’re at. May depend on who we beat how how competitive were the losses.

So UND got the most first place ballots but Denver had significantly more total points. I would guess Denver got mostly first and second place votes while UND was probably anywhere from first to fifth. Looks like Miami got all last place votes.

This season could be over in a hurry. Looking at their schedule it is not too difficult to see a 1-4 start. If that happens then it’s fire sale time, tank the season, start a real rebuild and hopefully draft a top end long term QB. While you’re at it build a physical offensive line that can actually get a push when you need to convert 3rd or 4th and one. Most likely scenario is they’ll win a game you don’t expect and hang around for a possible playoff berth with no realistic chance of doing any damage if they make the playoffs. End up with a first round pick just low enough that you can’t find a franchise QB. Rinse and repeat for the next decade plus.
